INTRODUCTION
CAMILLA CESCHI A SANTA CROCE
I am a product designer, graduated at the Product Design Innovation Master Degree at Politecnico di Milano, in Italy. I’ve always been interested in everything surrounding the product itself. The selection presented in my portfolio, aims to show the wide range of interests developed in my professional education, always working on different aspects of a design project, from the product development till the communication and space setting design. Furthermore I have a particular passion for theatre, attending many acting classes in the last years. Theatre has been not only a passion to enjoy in my spare time, but also a very important and significant inspiration for my work.

MOCI MOCI is a product-toy system, designed for pre-school children (4-6 years), who show symptoms of language development delays, and are currently in therapy with a speech therapist. The system therefore proposes to help the children in the exercise of the pronunciation of certain phonemes on which it has the greatest difficulty, and above all to maintain continuous monitoring at a distance by the speech therapist. Moci is presented as a system of finger puppets inside their own theater. The role and meaning of theater, in this specific case, is fundamental, as a free place of expression. Not only does the child practice pronouncing phonemes correctly, he also invents stories, thus developing storytelling skills, a fundamental element in the cognitive development and language of the child.

THEATRE: A GAME OF EXPRESSION Kids express themeself, through their own fantastic vision of reality. Thou, this is not always so easy. Theater can be seen as a way of

expression of an idea, a concept, a story, through one of our dearest action: the game. “To

nothing more than a “let’s pretend to ...” game, that we all have played since childhood. As a space of imagination, theater has the power to take out our own creativity and personal feelings. Theatre or the theatrical approach, in his fictional role, allows two main applications: the pedagogical function, ie the transfer of concepts, and the therapeutics one helping to go beyond certain psychological barriers, to find the ability to express themself. These kind of expression difficulties may be due by speech disorders and can bring to serious problems of insicurity, closeness and relational disorders.
12
“Design has always been far from the theatrical scene because considered too serious and linked to technology and functions; [...] but each object becomes a “figure” of a comedy that has always been considered more true than life.” Andrea Branzi

puppet. In this way, the kid is able to make always different characters interacting with each other. This allows the child also to practice the psycho-motor development through a certain type of movement of the hand and the coordination between the fingers and the two hands.
