Antofagasta, dubbed as the Pearl of the North, is a port city in northern Chile, capital and regional capital of the second region of Chile. The city has a population of 318.779 inhabitants.
The city of Antofagasta has a variety of tropical type climate, which varies with altitude. The main industrial activities is mining. In recent decades, from the 70s, has presented a sustained growth in the areas relating to the construction, retail and hospitality.

The Col贸n square is one of the most important symbols of the city of Antofagasta. It is synonymous with history, since it keeps the memories of the foreign communities who founded the region. Colon Square is located in the city center

Is an arc of 43 meters high, 23 meters wide and 70 meters long, which was formed 35 million years ago on a volcanic stone. At the top of the cliff, facing the Home, next to the Museum of Biodiversity, is the Mirador La Portada, ideal for enjoying all the scenic beauty of this wonder overlooking the Pacific and beautiful sunsets along with a variety of birds, among which are cormorants, terns nun, boobies, pelicans and occasionally the Humboldt penguin. The Portada is located 18 km north of the city of Antofagasta.
The Ruins of Huanchaca

The "Ruins of Huanchaca" correspond to the structural basis on which was mounted the "Industrial Establishment Playa Blanca", built by the Company Huanchaca, of Bolivia, to benefit silver minerals mined from mineral deposits in the country. Its construction was completed in 1892. The Industrial Establishment Playa Blanca was exploited commercially by the Company Huanchaca of Bolivia until 1902, year in which the company stopped its activities. From that date until 1964 the lands were abandoned, receiving the name Huanchaca Ruins, name that they are known until today. It is located south of the city of Antofagasta.
The Desert Hand

The Desert Hand is a sculpture located 75 km south of the city of Antofagasta, on the side of Route 5 Panamericana. It was built by Chilean sculptor Mario Irarrรกzabal. The sculpture, built out of concrete and has a height of 11 meters. It was inaugurated on March 28, 1992.
