Fred meets Joe who just moved to his new house and school. "Do you want to be friends?" asked Fred. "Uhm, yeah sure..." Joe shyly responded.
"Great!!!" Fred exclaimed. "Now that we are friends, you should come to my house and play with me after school." Fred suggested. "I-- Erm... I will have to ask my mom." Joe stammered.
• Later that day, Joe asked his mom if he could go to Fred's house. "Mom, do you think I can go, uhm, over to my new friend's house?" Mrs. Daffin, Joe's mother, stared at him for a moment. "It will only be for a little while... like maybe 10 minutes?" Joe reasoned.
Finally, Mrs. Daffin giggles a little and lets out a huge sigh and says, "You may go to your friend's hou--" "Yayyyy!!! Thank you, tha--" "But!" Mrs. Daffin interrupted. "But what?" Joe questioned. "But, I must come with you."
After what felt like forever, Joe and his mom arrive at Fred's house. DING DONG!!!! Fred's mom answers the door and calls out, "FRED, SOMEBODY IS HERE TO SEE YOU!!!" Fred runs to meet his mom and the guests as fast as he possibly can.
Fred and Joe immediately run outside and play Knights to the Rescue, Fred's very favorite game. While the boys are outside playing, the moms are inside having a deep conversation about Joe's...disorder.
"Joe has a little something called Multiple Personalities Disorder." Mrs. Daffin stated. "What is that?" Fred's mom wondered. "It is---
THUD!!!! "WAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!"
"Quit being such a cry baby!" Joe teased as the mothers run outside full of worry. "I don't play with eensy weensy crybabies like you." Joe continued. "JOE DAFFIN YOU STOP THAT RIGHT NOW!!!" yelled Mrs. Daffin. "What in the WORLD is going on?" "J-J-Joe pushed me to the ground really hard." Fred sobbed. "Nuh-uh," Joe snapped. "Fred is just being a little baby girl."
"Lets all go inside and figure this out." Fred's mom sighed, still full of worry. Fred's mom gave the boys a small snack of celery and peanut butter to keep them quiet and busy while she continued her conversation with Mrs. Daffin.
"Please tell me more about Joe's disorder." Fred's mom begged. "Well, his disorder was caused by his first parents, they would give him so many cuts and bruises so we decided to adopt him," Mrs. Daffin began. "Multiple Personalities disorder causes him to have different personalities. When Joe pushed Fred down he was having an episode. His personality changed to something mean and nasty."
"That makes sense... is there anything else?" Fred's mom wondered. "Let's see, when Joe has these episodes, he doesn't know he is having them. The doctors say he can only have one personality at a time, this means the other ones shut down when a personality is being used." Mrs. Daffin explained.
"I am beginning to understand now. Do you have any idea when he will be back to, uhm... normal?" asked Fred's mom. "It changes with each episode. Sometimes it is as short as ten minutes and other times it lasts days, sometimes even weeks." answered Mrs. Daffin. "Ok, we should probably check on the boys now." When the moms walked into the kitchen, Fred and Joe seemed to be having a blast. "I see you two have made up!" said Mrs. Daffin cheerily.
"Yeeeesss!! Haha! Joe is sooo ffunny!!!" Fred said between laughs. "Can I talk to you for a minute Fred?" Fred's mom asked. "Ok!" Fred replied, still laughing. Fred and his mom walk to Joe's room and have a talk about Joe's disorder and what to do when episodes happen. "Do you understand now?" asked Fred's mom. "Yesss... can I go play with Joe now?" wondered Fred. "Yes." she replied. As soon as the words left her mouth, Fred bolted down the steps and played with Joe.
From that day on, Fred and Joe happily played together every day they could.
