PRESIDENT’S REPORT
SEASON 2022/2023
A very successful year for the club with some silverware, avoiding the relegation zone in men’s first grade and most teams playing finals. Again, we proved that GDCC is up amongst the top few clubs in the competition with a number of teams across senior men’s, women’s plus and juniors playing in the major rounds, with our Second and Third grade men deservingly holding up the cups in hard fought Grand Finals. For once luck was on our on our side with the weather taking effect but both sides were rewarded for finishing on top of the ladder.
Although our men’s First grade did qualify for the first division for next season which is great, the result of fifth and finishing just out of the finals was probably slightly below where we thought we’d be. I think it’s fair to say there was an air of expectation of finishing in the four at the start of the year. Our First-grade women too were around the mark and played in the Grand Final of the T20 but unfortunately went down to a strong Sturt side that night.
There were some tremendous individual performances throughout the year which are all recognised in the rest of this report, most notably Jake Winter’s West End Cup One-day medal, many of our women making the First grade Team of the Year and Harry Cunningham’s KC Butler B grade medal. We once again had many state representatives plus Alex Carey and Talia McGrath representing Australia at international level, most recently in both Men’s and women’s Ashes series.
Off the field the club is in a healthy financial state and one of the highlights of the year certainly was our Bay on the Green which was tremendously supported by all in and around the club. That event seems to get better every time we hold it. It takes many people to bring that together and thanks to all, but particularly Bob Snewin, Simon Angove, Peter Gladigau, Paul Smith, Graham Egerton and the rest of the sponsorship and fundraising team and bar staff for a fun and highly successful day for the club. We hope it can continue in the future.
A big thank you to Sam McNally, Graham Sedunary, Kym Williams and all the other assistant coaches and their respective teams for all your efforts as well as all the amazing volunteers that keep this club running and are so important to its success.
I would like to thank Ben Higgins for his tremendous efforts over a number of years in his Assistant/ Development Coach role. Ben has decided to step down from his position and spend more time watching sons Isaac and Jonty develop their careers, so we still wish to see Ben around the club and I’m sure he’ll still be up to give some our batters a few tips of advice if asked!
Congratulations to long serving club volunteer Deb Schollar and club legend and all-time leading run scorer Tom Plant on their Honorary life memberships as well as Danny Irvine on his Playing life membership.
Thanks to Treasurer Cheryl Cook and Secretary Paul Angley for your support and all the board performing their roles and duties plus the tremendous support we get from our all sponsors (particularly Fotobase, Search Mortgages and Gliderol).
Season 2023/24 will be challenging for a number of reasons, not just the two divisional changes which what is looking like a very competitive First division in senior men. With the development of our practise facilities at Stratarama Stadium, we will be training at other premises in West Beach and Pulteney Grammar for the whole season. We thank the City of Holdfast Bay for their continued support and investment in what will be brand-new high-quality training facilities, with more nets and far better drainage. We look forward to using the facilities fir season 2024/25.
On a sombre note, unfortunately recently we lost a couple of great GDCC people in former C grade scorer Ian Milne and Cliff Thomas who was instrumental in putting together the GDCC history book. Our condolences go out to both Ian and Cliff’s family and friends.
Thank you to all players and members for your efforts throughout the 2022/23 season, congratulations to all trophy winners and we look forward to the challenges that next season brings!

SECRETARY’S REPORT
SEASON 2022/2023
Overall the club had a successful 22/23 season. Of the 12 main competitions (4 senior men, 4 junior boys and 4 senior women’s – 2 one day and 2 T20) Glenelg was represented in 10 semi- finals with 6 teams progressing to the grand final and 2 premierships –men’s 2nd and 3rd grade. Given there are 13 clubs, on average representation in 4 finals, 2 grand finals and 1 premiership would be the average, Glenelg performed well above average. In the 1st grade men’s competition there was the added pressure of finishing in the top 8 to remain in the top division for season 23/24, which the club successfully achieved.
The club had a number of players selected for representative teams or receive SACA rewards as detailed elsewhere in this Annual Report.
Sam McNally was the men’s coach and continued the development of players with 2 premierships. He continues to bring a great energy and new ways to develop players within the club.
Sam was ably supported by Ben Higgins, Peter Gladigau, Nathan Schollar and Matthew Heffernan.
Graham Sedunary led the women’s coaching group supported by Jason Gentle, Kieran Tregloan and Anesu Mushangwe. The incredible success that Graham has achieved with the players over the last few years continued, however I know Graham was very disappointed on the grand final days, but it gives him another challenge for next year.
The City of Holdfast Bay Council once again supported the club, continuing the development of our grounds and facilities. In conjunction with our dedicated maintenance group so much has been achieved, new scoreboard and upgraded practice nets to be developed in 23/24, reorganisation of club photos and other memorabilia. It is enormous the amount that has been achieved through the support of council, SACA, the work of volunteers and Bob Snewin’s seemingly endless ability to seek out grant money to help fund so many of these projects. In particular, David Wark, the council’s curator at Glenelg Oval, has done a brilliant job preparing great pitches to play on and an outfield which is first class.
In respect of the club’s administration, words cannot express the dedication and love these people have for the club, I am not sure it is fully understood by the players, as a player I am sure I didn’t. A highlight is recognition of some of these people externally, Cheryl Cook winning the Fellows Award for her contribution to women’s cricket, Gary Kuchta winning the Buckett/ Hammond scorers award and Bruce Chapman the Mayors award. The Board and volunteers greatly assist me in my role. President Jarret Moyse has shown exceptional leadership, not just with the ‘’normal’’ president duties, but with many other critical meetings regarding the future of the club, development of facilities at Glenelg, the future directions of SACA competitions
and structures, discussion with councils, Glenelg Football club and other parties regarding the use of grounds and facilities. Cheryl Cook continues her amazing work as Treasurer but also as a very strong advocate for women’s cricket both at Glenelg and with SACA.
Travis Smith was excellent as Junior Coordinator and it is unfortunate that he is not continuing. Kym Williams, the Junior Coaching Coordinator, continued his excellent work and with all 4 teams making finals, he should be very proud. Unfortunately, no success on the final day. I would also like to thank the following people for their support and the roles they undertake as part of the Board: Josh Roach as the men’s players’ representative, Brian McFayden who not only looks after our insurances but undertakes many jobs behind the scenes, including working at the bar. Bob Snewin for his role in sponsorship and fundraising, Ashley Capp who gives so much time and is so passionate about the club in the way he supports the club with running the bar, club hire management and many social activities and Deb Schollar who has coordinated the club’s communications which has resulted in greater coordination between the various types of media used to communicate with the Glenelg ‘family’. David Boschma who assists me and coordinates the maintenance works of the club.
Whilst the Board has an important role, there are many other people
who contribute and are the life blood of the club, who need to be thanked and who make this club great. It was great to hear players recognise these people at the presentation night. In particular, I would like to mention the following and thank them for their support: Peter Gladigau for his work in ground allocations, cricket equipment and many other things and his collaboration with David Wark (Council’s oval curator at Glenelg) has been excellent. Other significant supporters and helpers I would like to mention are Alan Scholz, Barb and John Laing and David Angove and those previously mentioned. I am extremely grateful for your support and help, thank you.
Whilst naming these people, there are many others who contribute significantly to the club including coaches, scorers, team managers, those who assist with teams in other ways, parents who drive players, set up ovals and the list goes on. I thank you all for your contribution because without it we would not be as strong as we are.
The club is always looking for more volunteers, if you are interested you can contact me, there are so many ways someone can contribute, the leaders in Premier Cricket. Thank you to all our 2022/23 volunteers and we hope you continue on next season.
To all the other volunteers and to the men, women and junior players, thank you all for being part of this great club and all the best for 2023/24.

TREASURER’S REPORT
SEASON 2022/2023
I am pleased to report on the finances of Glenelg District Cricket Club for the year ended 30th June 2023.
During the 2022/23 financial year GDCC made a loss of $2733 after deducting depreciation of $14772. In effect the club made a cash profit of $12039.
Income has increased by $13964 mainly due to bar sales, subs & a very successful Bay On Green fundraiser. SACA grants are increasing to pre covid levels plus cpi.
Expenses have increased by $17499. Increase in electricity & gas, oval hire, play hq fees & the reintroduction of afternoon teas have been the reason for this increase.
We sincerely thank the City of Holdfast Bay for their ongoing support and interest in our club activities as well as the upkeep of the oval and facilities.
The club continues to provide exceptional facilities and playing conditions for the players.
Capital items purchased this year include a large TV, air-conditioning in the kitchen and new covers for the pitch.
The fundraising and sponsorship committee have again done a great job, led capably by Bob Snewin. Thankyou to our club & bar manager, Ashley Capp who continues to do an amazing job, reflective in the increase in bar income.
Thankyou to Dave Angove for his assistance with banking and to the finance sub committee of Ashley Capp and Brian McFadyen.
Budgets set for 2023/24 are realistic and manageable. Changes being made by SACA will still have financial repercussions as we go through the year.
Lastly a big thankyou to Jarret & Paul who manage the club so well. It has been an interesting year with the perceived changes to the competition & to the oval precinct.
The club has been able to service its debts and meet all of its financial obligations throughout the financial year.

CLUB COACH’S REPORT
SEASON 2022/2023
Season 2022/23 was another one of success for the Men’s Senior Group. We finished 2nd in the Club Championship, improving on last year’s 3rd place and took out Premierships in 2nd and 3rd Grade. Congratulations to all our Premiership Players and especially to Harry Cunningham and Steven Heatley who have become Premiership Captains for the first time. The 2nd Grade was particularly dominant, going through the season undefeated. Our 4th Grade also made the semifinals which was a terrific result given the relative inexperience of the team as compared to the previous year’s champions. Scott Applegarth did a great job as captain and we are very lucky to have him in this role. Unfortunately, success continues to elude our 1st Grade. We finished 5th in both two-day and 50 over competitions which was not quite enough to play finals. Our red ball cricket in particular was a long way short of our standards at times; however we have done enough to secure our place in Division 1 for next season. Significant improvement will be required to contend for the title, but I know we have the skill and desire to achieve it and with Jake Winter as captain we are heading in the right direction. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our coaching team. Firstly Ben Higgins, who is now stepping away from an official role at the club. Ben’s selfless dedication to multiple roles has been invaluable and we will absolutely miss his presence at training and on match days. Thanks so much for everything you have done for our group Ben and I’m very grateful for the help you have given me personally. Enjoy your summer!
Nathan Schollar has continued to
evolve his coaching and picked up a well-deserved Premiership medal as the 2nd Grade Coach this season. Nathan has been a great resource to our batting group in particular and we look forward to him taking on a bigger role on next season with Ben’s departure.
Peter Gladigau is a fixture at Glenelg Oval in summer and is the epitome of a Life Member. The work that he continues to do with our young fast bowlers is the tip of the iceberg to his contribution to the club. Thanks again for all your efforts Glads.
Matt Heffernan once again drove our fielding standards and improvement in this aspect of the game, especially from some of our younger players was very noticeable this season. Thanks Heff. Congratulations to the individual award winners this season. I’d like to acknowledge Jake Winter who won the Fred Godson Medal as SACA One-Day Player of the Year and Harry Cunningham who won the KC Butler Medal as the best 2nd Grade player. Danny Irvine played his 100th 1st Grade game this season and became a Playing Life Member of the club. Danny is a loved team-mate, hated opponent and an ultimate competitor and it was great to see him reach this milestone.
Glenelg was once again well represented at State and BBL level this year. Nathan McSweeney had a breakout year, establishing himself in the Redbacks best XI in both formats and ultimately was selected for (and captained) Australia A on tour to New Zealand. Nathan also played in the BBL final for the Brisbane Heat and turned in some good performances over the tournament. Nathan never misses an opportunity to play for Glenelg and it’s great to have him in our team.
Liam Scott continued to improve at the next level and again played for SA in four-day and 50 over cricket this season. I’m confident that he can become an “everyday” player for the Redbacks next year. We also welcomed Harry Conway to Glenelg this season. Harry would be disappointed with his Redbacks year, but we were fortunate to have him for 6 games and his presence around our group was overwhelmingly positive.
Alex Carey (Australia, SA & Strikers) and Brendan Doggett (SA & Thunder) were unavailable for Glenelg this season but it’s always great to watch them perform on the big stage.
In summary, I would like to thank all the people who make this club run behind the scenes. There is so much work that goes into getting our teams on the park each week and your contributions are greatly appreciated. Thanks to Jarret Moyse and the board for supporting me through what was a difficult year personally and I look forward to repaying that with some continued team success next year.
To our players, boys I am continually inspired by your resilience and hard work for each other. We’ve got something really great at Glenelg and I am looking forward to seeing you all again in the pre-season as we reset ourselves to launch at some more trophies next year.
- Sam McNally Club CoachMEN’S 1ST GRADE PLAYER’S REPORT
SEASON 2022/2023
With eyes on a big season ahead with the whole first grade squad relatively unchanged and the looming two division structure, the boys set out with eyes on silverware. A wet pre-season meant the firstgrade group had only one hit out on turf before round one against East Torrens. The boys struggled early in the game with batters struggling to get in, before Josh Croom and Will Bowering helped the innings to 229 all out by combining for a 70 run partnership. As only 76 overs were faced, the boys had to bowl for 18 overs that night and started brilliantly having East Torrens 5-40 overnight. The bowlers then came back the next week and finished the job quickly with East Torrens out for 89 and Josh Croom the best of the bowlers with 6-29.
Round 2 saw us take on Adelaide University away where we bowled first. After a strong start by the Uni openers, Josh Croom got us the breakthrough and the collective bowling group doing well at restricting the scoring with Uni being 7-200 at the new ball. Before Liam Thompson ripped through and finished the innings off taking 3-26. After Uni finished 220 all out, a poor start with the bat again made the chase difficult with Jake Winter’s 67 keeping the scoreboard moving before Danny Irvine proved his class in his 96th 1st grade game for Glenelg guiding the team home with an unbeaten 54. Round 3 against Port Adelaide was a washout with Port declaring at 7-354 before the second week saw 30mm of rain. Round 4 saw us match up against Woodville and with a rain affected week 1, the boys finished the job with ease largely thanks to Liam Scott with 2 wickets and 57 not out and Nathan McSweeney 3-11 and 90 not out. The 150 didn’t end up enough chasing it 2 down with
plenty of overs to spare. Round 5 saw us come up against Kensington at home in a big game for the season. We batted first and once again batted poorly and required the tail to get us to 210. With the ball we showed fight but could never quite bring the game in our favour with Kensington passing our score 6 down. The last twoday game before Christmas was against Northern Districts away. We batted first and Liam Scott made another 50 for us but we struggled to capitalise on a better start and we finished all out for 240. After bowling a few overs overnight, the next day started well and having them 7 wickets down at tea, the game was looking in our favour, until we couldn’t take any more wickets and the game ended in a draw. Liam Scott was the star with the ball as well taking 3-17 off 21 overs.
The one day comp was completely separate this year with all games played on Sundays. With our first game against West Torrens, they batted first and made 290, with a flat wicket and short boundaries making it tough to defend. In reply we struggled to 3/60 but then Danny Irvine and Jake Winter put on 210 runs and guided the team to within 10 runs before Jake finished the game off chasing the 290, 6 down with 2 overs to go. The second game saw us take on TTG at Park 25. Another poor batting performance lead us to a poor total of 194. A strong bowling performance saw us stay in the fight and restrict TTG to 8/190 just short of our total but they held strong to chase the total in the last over. The pick of the bowlers was Liam Thompson with 4/33 which saw him reclaim some of his previous seasons one day form. The third game was delayed due to rain and was played in late January. The boys bowled well and
restricted East Torrens to 7-226 off 45 overs in a reduced game. The pick of the bowlers was Nathan McSweeney with 3-46. In reply, Jake Winter dominated the chase and cruised the boys over the line in 33 overs, making 141 not out. Ben Bullimore showed great form with 59 not out as well. Unfortunately the boys narrowly missed out on finals due to the narrow loss, which was very disappointing.
The T20 comp was also three games only with one of the games being a bye for the club. Therefore we had to go with a perfect two wins from two games. The first game we played Adelaide University, we batted first and a consistent performance from all the boys saw us post 8-154 off our 20 overs. In reply, we made a great start and looked in a very strong position but a strong batting performance from the opposition captain saw them get over the line in the last over. This made it all but impossible to make finals in our final game against Northern Districts, but an incredible bowling performance saw us bowl them out for 75 In the 18th over. Marcus Lee was the pick of the bowlers with 4/10 from his 4 overs. In reply the boys made light work of it, chasing the score in 11 overs, 4 down. Ben Bullimore top scored with 30 not out. Unfortunately this meant we finished 5th and missed out on finals. This meant we had also finished 5th in both white ball competitions which was a disappointing result for a side who pride themselves on white ball cricket.
After a well-deserved Christmas and New Years break, where we went into it with 3 wins, 2 draws and a loss in the 2-day competition, we had the bye straight up and then faced a tough test in reigning premiers West Torrens. Unfortunately the
boys played poorly and were comprehensively beaten. The round after saw us travel to Southern Districts, a much more convincing performance was put together with a very convincing outright win made with some key contributions from Nathan McSweeney and from first gamer for the club Harry Conway. The round after saw us at home against TTG in an important game for the standing of our season. In favourable conditions, we bowled first and unfortunately couldn’t quite find the breakthroughs with a bit of luck just never falling our way. The same could be said when chasing 390 the week after. With again the more favourable of the batting conditions, the boys couldn’t build any partnerships and ended up falling to 9/190. Then saw a record 10th wicket partnership between Josh Croom and Jack Pudney, with Jack Pudney making 79, also falling narrowly short of the fastest 50 in Glenelg’s first grade history. Unfortunately the record partnership couldn’t get us to the end and we were bowled out for 306. The season was slowly slipping away, we then next came up against Sturt, where we batted first and once again batted poorly and that saw us bowled out for 194. We then came out and tried our best with the ball but unfortunately couldn’t bowl them out and they passed our score 6 down.
This left us with two games remaining and with the right results going our way, two outright victories would give us a chance of sneaking into finals. We went out to Prospect and produced our best performance of the season. We bowled first and after a slow first hour, the wickets started falling and we bowled them out for 92. We then chased the 92 in 18 overs and decided to declare straight away. We then proceeded to bowl them out for 53 in 18.2 overs and had 8 overs to chase 51, which we did in 6.5 overs. This meaning we won the game within day 1, a very rare feat. The final game saw us play Adelaide and another outright would keep us in the hunt. After getting sent in, a poor batting performance saw us bowled out for 132. We then struggled with the ball early but sticking at it saw us bowl them out for 107. We then went out and set them 180 for victory off 60 overs and unfortunately, they chased it 5 wickets down and we lost reverse outright, ending our season. We finished 5th, which disappointed us as we expected more from ourselves.
The boys will regroup and we still ended up in division 1 for next year. Hopefully the boys can get some silverware next year.

SEASON 2022/2023
Season 2022/2023 was the seventh for our Women’s Group and our third as an A Grade Licensed Club. This year we put four teams on the park, 1st and 2nd Grade SACA and a Premier Youth Team, and an Under 16 Girls Team in the Hills League in conjunction with Mt Barker. We welcomed Ellie Dalgarno-Fixter, Cara Allen and Akshara Nair to the club.
We performed well throughout the T20 competition, making both Grand Finals, but missing out. We narrowly missed the finals in the 50 over competition and lost in the semi-final in the 2nd Grade. We also played off in the final of the Under 18 comp at Karen Rolton Oval going down to Sturt.
Congratulations to Tahlia McGrath who represented Australia with great distinction again, being named interim Vice Captain while Meg Lanning was on hiatus.
Courtney Webb and Kate Peterson were selected to play for Australia
A on a tour to England which is outstanding news, and we wish them both well, and look forward

to them taking that next step to the main team. Eleanor Larosa and Ella Wilson were selected in the Australian Under 19 team that toured South Africa, and Lucy Bowering continued to represent South Australia with distinction at Under 19 level. I would also like to congratulate and send our best wishes to Tabatha Saville for winning a contract with Tasmania for the upcoming WNCL season.
We also had Courtney representing the Renegades, Kate Peterson the Sixers and Tahlia and Anesu the Strikers in the Women’s WBBL. Anesu also won her first Scorpions contract as well. For the coming season, Eleanor Larosa has won her first contract with Scorpions as well.
Many Thanks to all those who helped out during the year, to the scorers and managers, Stephanie, Paul, Barry, Darren and Kym. We had an excellent coaching team, with special thanks to Kieran Tregloan, Jason Gentle, Anesu Mushangwe, PJ Scott, Scott Woods and Lisa
Mackenzie. A massive thank you to Craig Bowering who took on many roles during the season, and made a tremendous contribution to our team.
Whilst we didn’t win any silverware during the season, it was excellent to see so many Glenelg girls representing the State, and the National Team with distinction.

MEN’S 2ND GRADE CAPTAIN REPORT
SEASON 2022/2023
The 2nd Grade entered this season with a similar group to the one that finished runners up to Kensington the previous year. With a good mix of youth and experience, our Coach Nathan Schollar set our expectations high once again for 2022/23. The season started extremely well with some comfortable early wins out of the gate and a tie with Port Adelaide. We had a lot of different contributors week to week which was pleasing. Round 6’s Grand Final rematch with Kensington was a game we took a lot of belief from. Although the game finished a draw, we dominated day 1 with the bat posting 9/362 highlighted by Riki Boschma’s century. From that point on we were clearly the team to beat and our performances each week showed that to be true. Our bowling attack was really consistent all season. Marcus Lee once again led the way with 24 wickets for the year and got great support from Jesse Arthur, James Pike and Tom Wilkinson, who was very impressive in his first season at the level. I think the difference for us this year was our batting group making big scores and controlling games of
cricket. We posted scores of 321 (Woodville), 362 (Kensington) 398 (Southern Districts) and 388 in the semi-final vs Tea Tree Gully.
We finished the minor rounds undefeated and atop the ladder. After a dominant semi-final win over Tea Tree Gully set up by Zac McCabe (165) and finished off by Marcus Lee (5/33) we secured a home grand final berth at Glenelg Oval vs Adelaide University. After winning the toss on what we thought was a batter-friendly pitch, we found ourselves in serious trouble at 5/33 before lunch on day 1. We got to 6/80 with Josh Roach battling hard for 37 at the top of the order but after his dismissal we still needed another partnership or two to be in with a chance. Coming in at 8, Jayson Bartolo provided exactly what we needed. With some lower order help from Tom Wilkinson, Jayson batted just superbly for 81* putting us in a commanding position late on day 1. With a very competitive 177 we knew if we bowled the way that we had all season, that the game was very winnable. Marcus Lee put in an extraordinary effort for us striking first ball of the innings late on day 1
before continuing on day 2 bowling every over from one end. He finished with an incredible 24 overs, 4/27. The rest of the boys bowled really well around him and when the rain came at 6/77, we were happy with how we had turned the game around. Unfortunately, the match was abandoned but the premiership was well and truly deserved after we had put ourselves in a strong position to win the match. Looking back, it was a great season for the Second Grade. We had a lot of fun playing and having success together. I would especially like to thank to our coach Nathan Schollar, who once again put in a lot of time for us this season and our great mate and scorer, Bruce Chapman. We would also like to thank the rest of the coaching staff and all the volunteers who help keep the club running and particularly those who help out in the kitchen and on the scoreboard at home games. I look forward to seeing everyone next year.

MEN’S 3RD GRADE CAPTAIN REPORT
SEASON 2022/2023
After a disappointing end to last season, the 3rd grade entered the new season with renewed optimism that it would contend for silverware again. A solid pre-season unearthed some new talent to go with the established experience, while there was also a change in captain. Despite some changes within the group that has been so successful in recent times, the team remained solely focused on the goal of competing in the finals and bringing home the silverware again: something it had felt primed to do last season but missed out on.
Before reflecting on the events of the season, I want to acknowledge former 3’s captain, Tom Worthington. Tom stepped down from the leadership of the 3’s prior to the season with an impressive record; from his three seasons in charge, the 3’s finished in the top two on the ladder in each of those seasons, and his captaincy tenure is highlighted by leading the group to premiership success in season 2020/21. Wortho has been, and continues to be, an outstanding leader of this group and we congratulate him on his successful captaincy tenure.
The 3’s began the new season by outclassing East Torrens in a shortened one-day game, where 60 from Tom Worthington, 49 from Jack Thomas and 5/21 from Oliver Wilkinson set up the win. Momentum continued to build in Round 2 against Adelaide University, where Tom Wilkinson announced his arrival to senior cricket at Glenelg by taking 5/49 on a wicket that offered very little. Ned Harris also impressed in his first game for the club taking 4/61 as we bowled Uni out for 204. An unbroken partnership of 143 for the third wicket between Tom Worthington (60*) and new captain
Heatley (102*) saw the team home. This early season form showed the first inklings that something special could be achieved this season, which were further strengthened in the coming weeks when, lacking any significant experience amid mass changes, the team managed to defend sub-par batting performances against Port Adelaide and Woodville to record victories. During these two games, Ned Harris and Harvey Otto showed their class with the ball to spearhead the defence of small totals. While having to work harder than anticipated for these victories, it gave the group an increased confidence that regardless of position in any game, the group would not give up and would find a way to win. For a young, inexperienced group to show these signs, a real sense of increased belief and confidence was growing.
Round 6 saw us meet our old rival, Kensington. For our young group to come up against a side of experienced cricketers, this was a perfect test for us. And despite the game not beginning the way we had hoped, a match-defining innings of 60 from Bodey Hosking helped the side to 181, before a spirited bowling performance saw us to a 20-run win. The team’s confidence grew massively on the back of this win. A professional performance against Northern Districts in the final game before the Christmas break saw the 3’s sitting undefeated on top of the ladder. The foundation had been laid; it was now up to the group to make something of it in the second half of the season.
The first contest back saw us meet West Torrens in a one-day game. Struggling early after being sent in, an unbeaten 80 from captain Heatley, well supported by Wilson Otto and Bodey Hosking saw
the team post 5/188, before Kyle Caddick took 5/11 in three overs to grab the win. This was followed by another professional showing against Southern Districts, with Cameron Kiel scoring 96 as the team posted 9/301 in the return to two-day cricket. The team battled hard to secure an outright the following week, bowling Southerns out for 113, with Matt McInerney taking 4/13 before having them 6/67 in the second innings, led by Kelly Angove’s 4/5, just falling short of outright points.
The next major test came against Tea Tree Gully, as the team again demonstrated its refusal to give in and to fight its way out of tough situations. After being reduced to 9/71 on a tough batting wicket, an 86 run partnership between Harvey Otto and Kelly Angove for the 10th wicket saw the team reach 157, with Harvey scoring his first senior half-century. A lion-hearted effort from the bowling group, led by Marcus Lee, saw us to a 29run win. The feeling around the group was outstanding, with the confidence and willingness to fight our way out of tough situations now an expectation for the group. A rained-off game against Sturt the following week was enough to lock the side into top spot on the ladder for the second season in a row, an excellent reward for the groups hard work and effort. Heading into the final home and away round of the season, the opportunity was there for the 3’s to go through undefeated. Despite beginning well with an excellent bowling performance, another batting collapse saw us go down by 11 runs to Prospect. While it was disappointing to miss this rare chance, this served as a wake-up call for the group that hard work still had to be done.
MEN’S 3RD GRADE CAPTAIN REPORT
SEASON 2022/2023
Semi-final weekend saw us play East Torrens at the home of cricket, Camden Oval. After choosing to bat first, a shaky start saw us delicately placed at 7/120, but 82 from Tom Worthington guided us to 190. The team had set itself for the first hour with the ball as the opportunity to grab the game and make a statement. A brilliant new ball performance from Huw Stone, taking 4/18, supported by Kyle Caddick, taking 4/9, East Torrens were bowled out for 76, giving the 3’s another grand final berth and another opportunity to chase silverware.
In our path: the old rival.
Playing Kensington, again at Camden Oval, we bowled first and, on the back of another big-game performance from Huw Stone, taking 6/45, we bowled them out for 118 and definitely had the upper hand. We went to stumps 2/40 and were looking to press on and get the job done on the second day. With some rain around, we made a good start before we lost a few wickets and came off for rain at
6/85. After waiting around for a few hours, at 5:30, the game was called off and, having finished on top of the ladder, the premiership was ours, the second flag in three seasons for the 3rd Grade. In a way it was an anti-climactic finish to the season, but in no way does it detract from the outstanding effort the boys put in all season. We were the best team all season and thoroughly deserved this incredible result. It also clearly highlights the importance of maximising every opportunity and trying to win every game and finish as high as you can.
A few thankyous are always in order. To all the sponsors of the club and the Board, thank you for all of your support. To the best group of volunteers going around, thank you for everything you do to support us. There is a lot of work I’m sure that we don’t see behind the scenes, and without you we wouldn’t be able to go out and do what we do – we appreciate your continued efforts. One volunteer I do need to single out is our scorer, Byron Williams, who stepped into that role for us this year and did a fantastic job.
Thank you to the coaching group for their efforts and the incredible work put in over the season. Sam McNally, Ben Higgins, Peter Gladigau and Matt Heffernan all demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm for this group and their efforts are greatly appreciated by all the players.
It has been an outstanding year for the 3rd Grade. We’ve got a great mix of youth and experience in this group and it is a real honour to go out and represent this great club with this group and I’m sure we are going to continue competing for more silverware in years to come. I hope everyone enjoys the off-season and prepares well to compete for more success next season.

MEN’S 4TH GRADE CAPTAIN REPORT
SEASON 2022/2023
After winning the Premiership last season, the 4th grade team looked significantly different with a high amount of player turnover during the off season. With this, we had a high number of juniors playing senior cricket for the first time, making it an exciting challenge to be a part of, knowing it would be the youngest senior team to represent Glenelg during my time at the club.
The season started positively with strong winning performances against Adelaide University and Port Adelaide. By the time of the midseason break, we had 3 wins and a couple of draws placing us well within the pack. These early wins were highlighted by our ability to put some strong scores on the board. Our strongest performances as a team seemed to be with the bat early in the season but switched to bowling during the latter stages of the year.
After the break, we did inherit some inconsistent performances but one game that truly stood out was our game against Tea Tree Gully at Bulkana oval. It was an extremely slow outfield but still, that is not an excuse for getting bowled out for 53. To defend any low total everything must go right, and it did with a wicket first ball from Tom Smith who bowled brilliantly. We were able to pull off a miracle and dismiss Tea Tree Gully for an underwhelming 40 runs with Tom Smith the pick of the bowlers claiming his first five wicket haul (5/14). This win was significant, placing us in the top four and qualifying us for the finals yet again. Considering this was an extremely young team, just qualifying was an achievement.
We had the privilege of playing against an experienced Sturt team at Unley oval in the semi-final. Losing the toss and bowling first suited
us as it was our strength towards the end of the season. Sturt got away with a strong partnership early, but we were able change the momentum with brilliant spells from Oscar Hofmeyer (4/52) and Kyle Scott (3/19). This led us dismissing Sturt for 146, a score which we were confident of chasing.
The run chase started positively especially from James Patzel who made a run a ball 30. We ended the day 3/46, losing a couple of quick wickets in the last couple of overs. We only really needed one good partnership to give ourselves a real chance but unfortunately lost a few quick wickets early on, leaving us 5/50. Kyle Scott and I were able to build a partnership but couldn’t match Sturt’s pressure and eventually we were dismissed for 93. Even though it was a disappointing finish to the year, I was really proud of all the players who gave it their best crack and that is all we can ask for.
Over the season there are always great outstanding individual performances, Sam McCabe (97) and Riley Hill (94) got close to the hundred club while Tom Smith took (5/14 & 5/28). Oscar Hofmeyer, Manansh Dewan, Jonty Higgins also chipped in with some entertaining and skilful bowling performances.
As it is with the 4th grade, we have a lot of juniors playing senior cricket for the first time, James Patzel, Oorjit Jayawant, Joel George, Manansh Dewan, Kyle Caddick and Thomas Smith just to name a few. Every single one of them making significant contributions to the team during the year. The future looks very bright going forward into next season seeing the development of all these young players.
To all the coaching staff, Sam McNally, Ben Higgins, Matt
Heffernan, Peter Gladigau and Nathan Schollar, thank you for your efforts and continual support throughout the season. A huge thank you to all the volunteers and staff, without your contributions we wouldn’t have the opportunity to play cricket at this great club. Finally, a massive thank you from the entire playing group to everyone who helped with the 4th grade this year, including David Boschma, Paul Angley and all the parents involved. Thank You! We look forward to doing it all again next season.

U18 SHIELD REPORT
SEASON 2022/2023
Prior to the competition the squad was optimistic of putting some good performances on the park, due to maintaining 6 of last years squad, as well as injecting some exciting young talent into the squad. Although very few of the boys had white ball experience, all 14 of the boys had experience at the senior level going into the week which we believed would hold us in good stead throughout the tournament.
The first game against Adelaide was a good opportunity for the boys to experience the differences of the white ball game and how quickly things can change. We were off to a great start with Jack Thomas and Tom Wilkinson putting on a solid 3rd wicket partnership, leaving us at 2/100. Then as often happens, we suffered a severe batting collapse and finished our innings all out for 130. Jack Thomas best with the bat with 49. Adelaide chased the runs 4 wickets down, with one of their premier batsmen providing our boys with a template of how to chase down a low total.
Looking to bounce back, we played Tea Tree Gully on day 2. Our bowling innings did not start well as we let far too many runs through the field as well as bowling 15 wides. That was the story for the innings as they pushed their way to 240. We began the chase wobbly, losing wickets in clumps, making it hard to chase down a big total. We were given a glimmer of hope when captain Tom Wilkinson and Bodey Hosking got together at the crease, Tom making 79 off 69 and Bodey making 47. The hope soon faded however as they both fell in quick succession. Leaving us all out for 185.
2 losses in the first 2 days in this competition makes it near on impossible to make finals, but the group was still positive and full of energy going into day 3 against West Torrens.
With finals all but out of the question, our top order bounced back significantly, setting us up very well to launch into a big total of 200. Zachary Chapman best with the bat, taking the game on and making a run-a-ball 60. The bowlers then got to work and continually picked up wickets throughout the innings, bowling West Torrens out for 160 and registering our first win for the week.
Confident from the previous days’ performance, we took on Woodville at Woodville oval. We started magnificently with the ball having Woodville 6/60. Captain Tom Wilkinson leading the way with a destructive spell of 5 overs where he picked up 3 wickets. Woodville then put together a strong partnership, boosting the score to 212. We then set out about chasing the total, which did not start well, as we were 5/5 after the first 2 overs. It was always going to be an uphill battle after that. We managed to claw our way to 110 before being bowled out, best with the bat Jayden Prior with a very impressive 42 off 40 and Jared Kuhl with a few late bombs giving the group something to enjoy from the day.
Going into our 5th and final game for the week, the group was keen to show some that we were a better side than what we had produced during the week. We started well against Northern Districts, bowling them out for 170.
Best with the ball was Jared Kuhl collecting 4/30 off his 8 overs. We again started poorly with the bat, losing a wicket in the first over. Unfortunately, that was the story for the rest of the innings, losing wickets consistently, we managed to eke our way to 106 before being bowled out in the 34th over.
A very disappointing week with only 1 win to go along with 4 losses. Unfortunately the theme of the week for us seemed to be leaving too much to too few. However, the group has a large number of players in our squad that are eligible to play in the competition next season. So myself and Ben Higgins are very confident that the squad will be back better next season and look to make our way back up the ladder.
I would like to thank Ben Higgins for the ongoing support throughout the week, as well as Simon Wilkinson as our team manager, organizing esky’s, cordials, etc throughout the week. To the players, the coaching group appreciates the efforts that you put in, not only throughout the competition, but through the entire season playing either Senior or Junior cricket at the club. It doesn’t go unnoticed.
Looking forward to coaching again next year and seeing the group bounce back.

JUNIOR COORDINATOR’S REPORT - TRAVIS SMITH
SEASON 2022/2023
Season 2022-23 was a very good season for the Glenelg Juniors. We had 5 teams make the finals and had 3 teams make grand finals. Unfortunately, no premierships this year but still a very fine achievement. Thank you to the Board of Management for their continued support and investment of the junior program. The hard work of the Board and their promotion of the juniors is what keeps Glenelg as a top tier Premier Cricket Club. Well done to the coaches who invested significant hours for many months in the planning, preparation and active coaching of the teams. Thanks to Glenn Sullivan (Academy), Chloe Mackenzie (Chappell-Whitty Academy, Mt Gambier), Kym Williams (Junior Coaching Co-ordinator, Ray Sutton Shield, U14 Whites), Neil Rowe (U14 Reds), Justin Strange (U16 Whites), Craig Douglass (U16 Reds) and Jesse Arthur (U18’s). Thanks also to Sathish Srinivas, Tim Dyer, Matt Connors, Glenn Sullivan (again), Anesu Mushangwe, Raj Rana, Darren Banyer and Ben Higgins for your efforts as assistant coaches.
We were very lucky this year to have many volunteers to help with the juniors. Thanks to everyone who helped with training and match day duties. I would like to make special mention and give thanks to Stuart Pope as U16’s squad Manager, Matt Connors, Mike Fouyaxis and Ash Hunter as U14’s umpires and Renee Price as the ‘champion’ of PlayHQ registrations, selections and scoring. The club would cease to exist without the invaluable contribution of all our volunteers
A key performance indicator for the success of the juniors is how many cricketers we have promoted to South Australian duties.
This season we had a number of players get selected:

Congratulation to all SACA and Glenelg award winners (listed at the bottom of this document). The Glenelg specialist trophy winners were as follows:
WICKET KEEPER OF THE YEAR AWARD
Jayden Prior
This award is calculated based on the number of catches and stumpings. This season we were lucky enough to have excellent keepers in every team, but Jayden Prior was awarded the Wicket Keeper of the Year with a Club high of 18 catches and 3 stumpings. Jayden is from our Mt Gambier country zone and travelled each round to play for the U16 Reds. Congratulations Jayden and thanks to his family for the many hours committed to travel.
SEAHORSE COMMENDATION AWARD
Tait Martin
The Seahorse Commendation Award is voted for by the coaches and is based on cricket ability and a player’s attitude. Tait has tremendous cricket ability which is complimented by his respectful attitude towards the opposition, the captains, the coaches and the umpires. Tait joined Glenelg from Pt Lincoln and travelled to Adelaide for pre-season training, special team meetings and most matches. Congratulations Tait and thanks to his family for the commitment shown to the Club.
JUNIOR SEAHORSE OF THE YEAR AWARD
Ratna Rahul Reddy Evuri
The Junior Seahorse of the Year Award is presented to the most outstanding Glenelg junior cricketer and is calculated on statistics. It is a joy to watch Rahul play cricket; he posts big scores at will and takes bags of wickets for fun. As well as being a great player on the field, he is also a great person off the field. He plays in the spirit of the game and is well liked by his coaches, teammates, and even the opposition. Congratulations Rahul on a fantastic season with 549 runs, 25 wickets and 3 catches.
Thanks to everyone for your support during the season.
JUNIOR ACADEMY
Glenn Sullivan
With a change in leadership of our Junior Academy, there was an opportunity to put a fresh set of eyes across the program. The key to this was to build on what we have done well, identify areas of opportunity to improve the program and set plans that would benefit the entire junior program for years to come.
Following my involvement in the U14 program the previous season, I recognised that there were a few key areas we could address at the Academy level. These were, player driven preparation and training standards, increased exposure to leadership, and more game-based challenge experiences. With this in mind, prior to the commencement of the trials and season, we decided to outline a plan of our key focus areas for the program. We wanted to be clear with the squad members from the start what those were and how they could help themselves in their own time. This led to the development of a Player Handbook resource.
This resource contained:
• A personalised welcome
• Culture goals
• Non-negotiables of the program
• Player driven warm-up standards
• Game simulation plans
• Fielding focus areas
• Batting focus areas
• Bowling focus areas
• Questionnaire for the squad members to complete allowing us insight into their goals, key motivators and self-awareness
The squad size was increased this year with a plan to welcome more underage members. This would allow us to capture younger talent that we can work with over multiple years prior to them graduating into the U14 program. We accepted 20 players into the program this year. Coaching resources consisted of myself with the assistance of Tim Dyer and Sathish Kumar. We also had fantastic support from parents Nigel Percy and Greg Campbell. Despite the support from the assistants being invaluable to the players, we identified that more permanent resourcing was
required for future years following Tim unfortunately having some health issues limiting his availability for sessions and Sathish missing some sessions due to State representative playing commitments. Scheduling of multiple constraint-based activities was a challenge at times when there wasn’t certainty of additional resource from week to week.
We connected early with numerous other junior programs to canvas opportunities for more games for the squad. There was also the introduction of a few T20 matches to encourage brave mindset cricket. Our season consisted of 3 x T20 matches, 3 x 40/40, and 2 x 35/35 matches (Total of 8) with the highlight being a T20 twilight match on Glenelg Oval following the 1st Grade. A special thanks to Jake Winter and the boys for their pre-game rev up and support of the boys from the stands. Our matches brought mixed results with the squad taking a few games to recognise that they can achieve so much more when they demonstrate positive intent in their game approach. Bowling across the season was very strong and batting and fielding were a little hit and miss at times. This was a result of giving opportunity to all squad members at different times in different roles to help them grow, rather than running with a ‘strongest line-up’ mentality.
Throughout these matches 6 members of the squad were exposed to game day leadership roles, they were challenged with setting strategic fields, bowling changes and had input into the batting line-up. This allowed us to discover where many of their strengths and weaknesses lie in relation to awareness, player management and strategy.
Awards for this season were altered from previous years to reward the behaviours we were striving for as well as outstanding performance. We ran with 3 awards:
BEST TEAM MAN
This was to encourage a team first mindset in the squad where support and celebration of our piers was prioritised over personal achievement.
MOST COURAGEOUS
Promoting positive and courageous intent in their game play. The message all season has been that it is a ‘free’ year to find out how high they can push their potential ceiling.
ACADEMY MEDAL
After each game, we awarded a 3,2,1 vote to the players that we deemed to be the most influential in the game whilst being both teamorientated and courageous. The player with the most votes at the end of the season is the recipient.
We will carry into next season 6 players from this year who were underage, and we have offered another year of development to 2 players who were not quite ready yet to progress into the U14 squad.
CHAPPELLWHITTY ACADEMY, MT GAMBIER CHLOE MACKENZIE
In July of 2022, the GDCC re-established the ChappellWhitty Academy in Mount Gambier. The Academy aims to breakdown the distance barrier keeping country players from accessing the same programs as their metro counterparts.
The Academy attracted significant interest within the region, but due to venue unavailability was forced to be held on a Saturday afternoon. This time slot unfortunately clashed with local footy, and likely impacted the number of applicants we received – particularly from towns outside of Mount Gambier. Overall, 20 participants formed
RAY SUTTON SHIELD KYM WILLIAMS
Preparation for the Ray Sutton Shield carnival started very early for us given that we had not had a lot of success in the carnival in recent years. This included having four centre wicket trials using game-based scenarios with a large squad to pick our final team early in the season. This proved very beneficial in allowing us to observe our players in real game sense situations under pressure. It was a very good year for the Ray Sutton team. Our focus during the carnival was on playing positive and brave cricket in really taking the game on to give us the best chance to develop our players and also win games.
The Ray Sutton Shield team had a terrific carnival winning 3 games
two groups and participated in ten training sessions. Ages ranged from 9 to 16, posing a significant challenge for coaches. I would like to congratulate the senior boys within the Academy for their brilliant attitudes and encouragement towards the younger boys.
The survey held at the conclusion of the program highlighted extremely positive feedback from the players and families. They particularly appreciated the effort made by GDCC coaches to travel down to Mount Gambier to assist with the program – for country cricketers, getting exposure to high-quality coaches from different backgrounds is invaluable.
Overall, all players developed all facets of their game considerably across the ten sessions. This was shown by the outstanding representation of Chappell-Whitty Members in representative teams, with 15 of the 20 representing either the Mount Gambier and District Cricket Association or the South East Zone Cricket Association. Additionally, 8 Academy members played Grand Finals for local clubs.
Sam Hunt and Georgia Barret went on to represent the Glenelg District Cricket Club throughout the 2022/23 season after having participated in the Chappell-Whitty Academy. This brings the total number of South East players representing the GDCC in the 2022/23 season to six and shows that the Chappell-Whitty Academy can be a genuine pathway for country cricketers into premier cricket. In 2023, we are excited to expand the program to include a practice match merging the Chappell-Whitty Members with current GDCC players. We look to increase the participant numbers from 2022, and increase the profile of the Academy within the community. I would like to thank the players and parents for their enthusiasm and efforts, and all GDCC coaches who travelled a considerable distance to share their knowledge. I would particularly like to thank Kym Williams for his hours of work in establishing the program and his continual support throughout the year.
against West Torrens, Woodville and Northern Districts and losing 2 games against Adelaide and Sturt in the grand final. We qualified for a grand final against Sturt which was great reward for effort for the boys. We had a very competitive game with Sturt keeping them to 133 and narrowly missing out on chasing their total being bowled out for 117. There were some terrific individual performances over the course of the season I would like to acknowledge:
Nameer Rahman
5 for 7 against West Torrens
Aiden Williams
3 for 27 and 28 runs in the grand final against Sturt
In terms of our overall individual results, with the batting, Cooper Lawson had a terrific season leading the way with 182 runs at 45.50 with Luke Hunter making 124 runs at 24.8. With our bowling, Nameer Rahman led the bowling with 11 wickets at 5.55 with Aiden Williams taking 7 wickets at 10.43. Harry Campbell did a fantastic job as our wicketkeeper for the year as well.
Our captains and vice-captain did a terrific job for the carnival leading the boys. Aiden Williams and Cooper Lawson worked very well together to play to their strengths out on the field which meant that the team was well led throughout the carnival.
Special thanks go to Glenn Sullivan for his assistant coaching role with the team and Matt Connors for also helping out at training and game day. A thank you also goes to the parents and extended families of our team. Their support and help for the coaches and kids was greatly appreciated through the carnival. A final thank you goes to the kids that made up the Ray Sutton Squad this year. They were an absolute pleasure to coach both at training and game day which made the year enjoyable and very rewarding for everyone. Thanks again to everyone involved at the Club for their support. We look forward to seeing the boy’s hopefully go one step further in the Ray Sutton Shield carnival next year.
U/14 REDS NEIL ROWE
Well done to the junior squad this season, finals across 5 teams is a great achievement and a big step in the right direction for the entire group. For the 14 Reds squad and those that represented the team it was an up and down journey through the season. The first few games were not ideal with the injuries and unavailability of a number of players in the 16 squad, this had an impact on team continuity and impacted the first few games of the year. The pleasing thing is that we adapted really well and got away with only the single loss early to Woodville. The first half of the year we didn’t play our best cricket and had a couple of results which provided excellent learnings for the entire group. Having said that we had some really positive periods of cricket, one that stands out was the second day against Tea Tree Gully having not had the best start and the game called off early on day 1 with Tea Tree Gully 2/175. We were left with 9 overs on day 2 to bowl, as a group we aligned on the plan for day 2 and it paid off with the boys taking 8/18 in 7 overs. This started to provide belief that we can turn games with the right mindset and plans.
We entered the break well down the ladder and returned after Christmas with the understanding that our season was in our own hands as a group and that 1 bad day would put the boys plans of finals out of reach. We made a couple of minor adjustments as a coaching group and the boys really jumped on board had a very clear plan and simple approach to our cricket in the second half of the season, which to the boys’ credit they played a very high standard through this period. Winning every game convincingly including a convincing win against the undefeated Sturt. Along with the belief in our last minor round game against Adelaide where we only managed 104 that we could still win, which with some brilliant bowling and fielding kept Adelaide to just 26. For me the highlight of the season as a coach was how the boys collectively approached the Semi Final, playing against, in my view, the most complete team in the competition in Kensington.
I was proud of the approach to the game, the fight and hard work on the Saturday of day 1 to keep them to 174 was a fantastic effort as a bowling and fielding group. The following Saturday was just as impressive in how the team managed the chase as a batting group, and then the positive way the middle order finished the work was just a really great moment for the boys to be part of as a group finishing at 6/176 with 2 overs spare. The Grand Final didn’t go as we planned and that is how cricket plays out some times - it is unique that the weather can have such an impact on a game, however, we played the right way and in the right spirit which is the most pleasing thing as a coach, that the message around how we go about our cricket is sinking in and setting the tone for their cricket journeys.
It was really pleasing as a squad to see how the new players to the group fitted in across the season along with our second-year group, each of them grabbed the approach to how we want to develop the boys as positive cricketers, that play with intent and look to move the game forward, these traits will really help as the boys move forward in their cricketing futures.
Special mention to the Martin and Reidy families that travelled from Port Lincoln to be a part of the group this season for the time and cost associated with this, it is not lost on the coaching group, we are so lucky to have your families in our group, the whole squad has really embraced having Tait and Jarrah and really appreciate the support and communications in working the logistics through the season.
Thanks to Glenn Sullivan, massive shout out and thanks for the effort and work you have put in this year especially around the training sessions, given your investment in the Academy and the RSS. We are so fortunate to have your help and view on the game, it is really appreciated. Kym and Matt as a 14 group, your assistance with the group across the whole squad all year has been great, we have looked to do some things differently and help to challenge the boys all the time, thanks for the journey this season.
I see this as a big reason for the success of the year for the u14 teams. To the parents, most of you have been on the journey with us the last couple of years, all of your assistance and help in anything needed has again been greatly appreciated, and the support for the group is just fantastic. As a coach figure for the boys, I really appreciate it, knowing that they all take it for granted.
Travis for all the heavy lifting behind the scenes this year along with the commitment to Tuesday training, it is a thankless task but we all really appreciate your work in keeping everyone informed on all aspects of the week ahead, a massive thank you from me.
Couple of special mentions to Ratna Rahul Reddy Evuri. In winning both the Aggregate runs and wickets for the entire competition is a special season, 511 runs at 51 for the season was over 100 more than the next player. But to also finish with 25 wickets at 9 is as impressive. This included 2 centuries and 1 six wicket haul, it was well deserved. To Nameer Rahman in your first year at the club to finish runner up in the bowling trophy with 24 wickets and two 5 wicket returns, really well done. Well done to the growth of our 2 co-captains in Harry Sullivan and Josh Jarrad, not an easy job at this age to lead and also share the responsibility. However, we worked it out through the year and to both your credit, your approaches and learning off each other is just what we were looking to achieve in helping you experience different situations. To all the boys that played in the U14 Reds, you all had moments in the year to forget and hopefully learn from, with plenty more moments to reflect on with what you are capable of and to help guide you to be able to believe that you can do it at this level. This is really important. Keep working hard, don’t think that you can’t get any better as you will get left behind as the group continues to improve and get better, you need to do this also.
Good luck next season.
U/14 WHITES KYM WILLIAMS
It was a very good year for the Under 14 Whites team. Our focus during the year was on developing a one team approach across the Under 14 squad, skills development and making sure our players played their individual roles to their strengths over the course of the season.
From the start of the pre-season, we had good a turnout in numbers both at training and at games as one Under 14 squad. We worked hard as coaches with training to ensure that we kept it varied and interesting to ensure the boys were engaged and also learning lessons from the games on the weekends that could be reinforced with drills and scenarios at training.
The team had a terrific year winning 8 games and losing 2 games. The effort improved every week and so did the skills, teamwork and results. All boys stepped up and performed roles when needed during the season. We qualified for a semi-final against Adelaide who we had beat the previous week. Unfortunately, Adelaide were too good for us in this game and ended up winning the grand final the following week.
There were some terrific individual performances over the course of the season I would like to acknowledge:
Cooper Lawson
104 against Kensington
Angus Smith
5 for 23 against Tea Tree Gully
In terms of our overall individual results, with the batting, Cooper Lawson had a terrific season leading the way with 398 runs at 44.22 with Luke Hunter making 232 runs at 21.09. With our bowling, Cooper Lawson also led the way with 16 wickets at 12.19 with Josh Salievic and Angus Smith close behind with 13 wickets each. Lachlan Price did a fantastic job as our wicketkeeper for the year as well as Luca Fouyaxis leading the way in the field winning our fielding trophy for the year. Our captains and vice captains did a terrific job all year. Lachlan Price, Cooper Lawson and Aiden Williams worked very well together to play to their strengths out on the field which meant that the team was well led throughout the season. The coaching was a team effort with Matt Connors, Neil Rowe and Glenn Sullivan heavily involved in assisting at training and Matt also on game day which was appreciated. A special thankyou needs to go to Travis Smith for his role as our Team Representative for the Under 14 squad. I know his efforts were greatly appreciated by all involved with our team which included everything from being our team manager for trainings through to being the go-to for all communications for the squad. Thanks also to Renee Price for her support as well through the year with Play HQ and other activities. Thanks to Mike Fouyaxis, Ashley Hunter and Trav for also umpiring for us this year. A thank you also goes to the parents and extended families of our team. Their support and help for the coaches and kids was outstanding. We had nothing but positive encouragement from the sidelines and unconditional support in relation to the manner in which the boys played which is a testament to the culture of the cricket club we are proud to be part of.
A special thankyou goes to Travis Smith in his role as Junior Coordinator. His support and assistance throughout was outstanding, ably supported by a supportive junior committee and board.
A final thank you goes to the kids that made up the Under 14 Whites this year. They were an absolute pleasure to coach both at training and game day which made the year enjoyable and very rewarding for everyone. A special thank you to the three Academy boys who came up and played for the Under 14’s this year which included Harry Campbell, Dylan Percy and Kannan Behl. Thanks again to everyone involved at the club for their support. We look forward to seeing the boy’s progress throughout the grades and hopefully one day being members of our senior teams at our Club.
U/16 REDS CRAIG DOUGLASS
The Under 16 Reds had a successful season, finishing the minor round in second position, winning 7 matches, including 1 outright (v Prospect) and losing 2. We then beat Northern Districts by 1 run to win the Semi Final, defending 103 and bowling 71 overs including 32 maidens in an amazing bowling and fielding performance. Unfortunately, we had a rained-out draw in the Grand Final. We were in the game at 1/24 chasing 203, with the ball and run-ups wet, but unfortunately the rain intervened and Sturt were awarded the premiership due to a higher ladder position.
Our bowling had great depth across the entire squad, with us regularly bowling teams out for less than 100. Our Captain Leroy Hagon had an outstanding season, leading from the front taking 22 wickets at 6.9. This saw him win the SACA U16 Reds bowling aggregate. Leroy’s season was cruelly cut short by injury, which saw him miss the Semi and Grand Finals. Fletcher Hoffmann, after playing every match, was also injured in the Semi Final and was unable to take his place in the Grand Final team, which was a huge disappointment for both Fletch and the team. Michael Jansson won the club bowling aggregate. Michael bowled with good pace and hit dangerous areas regularly and was rewarded; taking 23 wickets at 10 and improved in every game he played. We worked hard on our fielding this season and that paid dividends, backing up our bowling attack who were always producing chances. Special mentions to Jayden Prior, who kept wickets brilliantly all season and Logan Banyer who won our fielding award this season who kept in JP’s absence and was very safe in the outfield.
Our batting was led by Kuwerdeep Singh with 449 runs at 44.9, including 4 scores of over 50. This saw Kuwer win the SACA U16 Reds batting aggregate. Kuwerdeep was the only batman to capitalise on his starts; the other batsmen all showed they can play at the level but weren’t able to convert 15s and 20s into 50+ scores; this is something that they will need to do if they want to be successful in senior cricket, and was something that we worked on and talked about constantly with the batting group this season.
As is usual in U16s, we had a large turnover of players throughout the season, playing 23 boys at different times. This was necessitated by the large number of private school boys we have in our junior program and gives us the opportunity to look at many boys in higher grades and gives those players the opportunity to experience the grades that they will be playing in the future.
Although rain prevented us from achieving the premiership that we were certainly capable of, we had a great season and the top-age lads are ready for senior cricket. I’m extremely proud to have been a part of a great group of young men, and I am looking forward to watching their senior careers unfold. To Leroy, Fletch, Perc, Dev, Lachlan, Kuwer, Hunty, Kiely, JP, Mick, Maxy and Harry who are moving on to the seniors, thanks for your commitment and hard work over the last few years, and for being great guys to coach.
I would like to thank the parents and families for their support this season, always making sure that the grounds were set up and the scoring looked after. I would also like acknowledge the commitment of our regional players and their families who make the long drive to and from Adelaide each week, thank you for your dedication and commitment to your son’s cricket. My sincere thanks go to Travis Smith and Kym Williams who both do an outstanding and tireless job as Junior Coordinator and Junior Coaching Coordinator. A huge thank you also goes to Darren Banyer, Anesu Mushangwe, Justin Strange and Raj Rana for their hard work, time, energy, support and counsel over the season.
U/16 WHITES JUSTIN STRANGE
The 2022/23 season for the White team was a success, we made it to the final’s series, a great achievement for the boys. The season certainly delivered its challenges. As the White’s, we have a role and responsibility to support the Reds team, however we also have a responsibility to focus on the cricket development of all our players.
At many points during the season, it was a challenge to fill a side of 11 to face our opposition. In the early weeks of the season, we lost 2 players to injury, Archie with a broken thumb and Oliver with a broken arm, they were both out for many weeks. Over the course of the season, the Whites used 24 players in total pulling players from the Under 14s and recruits from local community teams. Late in the season our Captain Patty Hanton developed a back injury. Patty missed a few games and he was always at these games supporting the team. All these challenges really helped us develop together as a team, we had fun and plenty of banter was enjoyed on and off the field. This helped us gain momentum and belief, earning us a position in the finals by bowling Adelaide out for 67 in the last game of the minor round. We met Sturt in the semi-final. Once again having two under 14 players to fill our side. We had a fabulous bowling start with Sturt at 6 for 60. Sturt with their depth of players were able to bat on to make a competitive score, we were unable to chase down. Sturt were just too good in the end. Roy Rana (Acting Captain) & Anuj Rao (U14) batted well and nearly got us over the line. I want to express my thanks to all who played for the team, it was a great season. Well Done to all the boys.

I would like to thank the parents for their fantastic support, especially on match days. This allowed me to give my full attention to the players on game day. A special mention goes to Stewart Pope for organising the scoring roster and IT support, and Matt Hanton and Gavin Fontaine for their assistance when I was coaching solo.
Thanks also to Craig Douglass, Raj Rana and Darren Banyer for their support with selection and advice throughout the year. Plus, Neil Rowe and Glenn Sullivan for their ‘saving the day assistance’ with selection.
I would like to acknowledge Trav Smith for his dedication and relentless approach to the junior coordination position. Many times, he would assist with game day tasks and drop or pick up items from my home. Lastly, I would like to acknowledge the positive impact and professionalism our Junior Coaching Coordinator Kym Williams brings to the junior program. Kym has a strong understanding of district cricket and the level of commitment required by our players. Kym is always looking to improve the experience for the players and to develop clear expectation of what is required by all. The future is in good hands. I really have enjoyed my time as U/16 Whites coach and I look forward to assisting Raj Rana as he leads the Under 16 Reds team next season.
Thanks
