A Brief History American Football Trinity College
of at
The sport of American football was irst played in Trinity in the 1990s, by the Dublin University Grid iron Society. The Gridiron Society eventually evolved into DUAFC as it is today, oficially estab lished in 2007 and now entering its third season in the Irish American Football League (IAFL). DUAFC is a student organization, run by and for the students of Trin ity. In just two seasons, the club has seen success unparalleled in American football in Ireland: last year, it shocked the league by win ning seven games without conceding a single point. As a result the club’s name spread swiftly across campus, and it has seen its playing core rise accordingly: the club now counts nearly 50 players on its roster going into the 2010 season.

2010 looks set to be an exciting year for DUAFC, as it looks to build further on the success of its previous season and cement its position as one one of the best teams in Ire land. The spectacle that is American football is, in fact, the fastest growing sport in Ire land, and the club is doing its part in bring ing this ledgling game to the eyes of more and more people in Trinity and beyond.
This year also sees the return of the Trinity Bowl, an annual invita tional game played on College Park in Trinity’s citycentre campus which irst took place in 1992. This year’s game, to be played on April 8, 2010, will see the University of Essex, one of Britain’s top collegiate teams, travelling to Dublin to face off against Trinity in what will be both sides’ irst ever international intervarsity game.
