“Football is a great deal like life in that it teaches that work, sacrifice, perseverance, competitive drive, selflessness and respect for authority is the price that each and every one of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile. -Vince Lombardi
THE TIME IS NOW! Throughout the years, a continuing request from students, alumni and university friends has been to consider the return of football to the athletic program of the university. After a very careful feasibility study, which included faculty, students, alumni, trustees and athletic staff, the trustees have approved the addition of football to Campbell’s athletic program. Therefore, I am proud to announce that the Fighting Camels will be back on the gridiron with their first home game on August 30, 2008! For many years, Campbell had a rich football history. Records indicate that Campbell first fielded a varsity football team in 1925 and did so until 1950, except for 1940-45 during World War II. During those early years, Campbell won several junior college state championships. The 1947 team won the Eastern United States Junior College Championship. One year later in 1948, Campbell again won the North Carolina title, but fell to South Georgia in the Eastern United States championship. With the on-set of the Korean Conflict and the movement of many North Carolina schools to senior college status in the 1950’s, Campbell dropped its varsity football program after the 1950 season. But the time has come for Campbell to once again field a collegiate football team. This football program will enhance Campbell’s student life program and will also add an additional venue to bring alumni and friends back to campus. In order to prepare for the 2008 opening season, we must move forward quickly to build the first stage of our football complex and we need your help! Please help us to make this new stadium complex a reality. I look forward to your participation in this great challenge. Sincerely,
Jerry M. Wallace President

Building Character, Spirit and a Team In 2006, after more than a five decade absence, Campbell University has announced the addition of collegiate football to an already strong athletic presence. As one of the premier faith-based universities in the southeast, the campus community is excited to add teamwork, discipline, and a competitive spirit on the football field to the strong academic and athletic traditions already associated with a Campbell University experience. The addition of varsity football will enhance the student life experience at Campbell, and provide an exceptional recreational and economic development opportunity for the community. There are currently eighty-five young men on the Campbell football team roster. In the Fall of 2007, six of these men were sophomores, ten were returning freshman, and sixty-nine were incoming freshman. In addition to building an excellent team, Head Coach Dale Steele has developed an outstanding coaching staff with six assistant coaches.

The Stadium Complementing existing campus architecture, the Football Stadium continues the Campbell architectural tradition using a timeless design with Southern charm. Utilizing a traditional brick exterior and detailing, the stadium is expandable to 10,000 seats. Situated prominently near campus housing and Highway 421, the site will be attractively landscaped and will provide entertainment opportunities before and after the game. The field itself is state-of-the-art artificial turf. The press box will house offices and technology for communication to coaches, officials, and spectators as they enjoy the game. The design provides ample public restroom facilities and includes ticket and multiple point-of-sale concession amenities.

The Field House Situated adjacent to the southern end zone of the Football Stadium, the 15,500 square foot brick Field House will provide an entrance lobby to welcome visitors and potential recruits, a football shaped meeting area for pre-game, half-time and post-game team meetings, and Home and Visitor locker rooms. Flexibility is inherent in the design, allowing the visitor’s locker rooms to be subdivided and used effectively for Spring Sports teams. An ultra-modern training room, equipment and laundry rooms, and coaching offices will compliment a multi-purpose room and public restrooms. Exciting and vibrant colors will enhance interior spaces.
