Camp Lavi Baking Cookbook A Taste of Summer

We hope you enjoy this keepsake of recipes made throughout the summer. With much thanks to Gary Rubin, David Ratz, and Geula Deykan for making the summer so full of delicacies and tasty treats. We hope that you use these recipes and continue to bake at home. Be sure to take a picture and tag @CampLavi when baking! May you always have a “taste of summer” throughout your year!

Rugelach Dough: ¾ cup oil 2 cups sugar Mix--2 eggs ¼ cup water Mix--1 teaspoon vanilla extract 4 cups flour 2 teaspoons baking powder ¼ teaspoon baking soda ½ tsp salt Filling: ½ cup oil 1 cup cocoa 2/3 cup white sugar Roll dough into a flattened circle. Spread filling on the dough. Divide dough into 8 even slices. Roll each wedge up, beginning with the wide end and ending with the narrow end. Place the rolls point-side down onto the baking sheet. Bake on 350° for 15 minutes. 2


Cinnamon Buns Dough: Filling: 2 ¼ teaspoons yeast ½ cup oil 1 cup water 2/3 cup sugar 3 tablespoons oil 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon Mix---Glaze: 1 tablespoon sugar 1 ½ cups confectioners’ sugar 1 tablespoon oil ¼ teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons water 2 ½ cups flour Knead the dough. Form a thin rectangle. Spread the filling on the dough. Roll up the dough on the short end. Cut the dough into slices and place in the pan. Let rise for half an hour. Bake at 375° degrees for 25 minutes. Once cool, drizzle glaze over the top.

Sprinkle Cookies 1 cup sugar 1 cup oil Mix---2 eggs 2 teaspoons water 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Mix---1 teaspoon baking powder 3 cups flour Roll into Balls Rolls into Sprinkles Bake at 350° for 10 minutes or until lightly browned. 3


Cinnamon Sugar Cookies 2 eggs ½ cup water ¼ cup oil Mix--2 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking powder Roll into Balls. Roll into Cinnamon sugar mixture. Bake at 350 for 8 minutes

Blondies 2 cups sugar 1 cup oil 6 tablespoons chocolate chips 1 cup flour 4 eggs Mix all the ingredients. Pour into a pan and bake at 350° for 20 minutes.

Vanilla Crinkle Cookies cup oil 1 cup sugar ½ teaspoon vanilla extract 2 eggs Mix---¼ cup instant vanilla pudding 1/3

Mix--1 teaspoon baking powder 1 ½ cup flour Mix well Make small balls of dough and roll in confectioners sugar. Bake at 350° for 10 minutes. 4


S'more Brownies 1 cup flour 1 ½ cups sugar 5 tablespoons cocoa powder 4 eggs 1 cup oil Mix ingredients together. Smash up graham crackers. Add Brownie batter to tin. Spoon marshmallow fluff. Spoon graham cracker crumb on top. Bake at 350° degrees for 10-20 minutes depending on the size of your pan and the amount of fluff you use.

Yummy Healthy Granola Bars 2 cups oats ¾ teaspoon cinnamon 1 cup whole wheat flour ½ cup oil ¾ cup light brown sugar ½ cup honey ¾ cup craisins 2 teaspoons vanilla extract ½ teaspoon salt 1 egg Mix all ingredients. Pour into a greased 9 by 13 tin. Bake for 30 minutes on 350°. Cool and cut into bars.

Personal Fruit Trifles Vanilla cake ½ cup oil 2 cups flour 1 egg 2 teaspoons baking 1 cup water powder 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 cup white sugar Mix dry ingredients, add wet 1 teaspoon salt ingredients into the center of Mix--the bowl. Mix together. Bake at 350° degrees for 20 minutes. Break cake apart, put into cups or trifle bowl top with whipped topping and assorted fruit toppings.


Pizza Dough 3 ½ cups flour 1 teaspoon sugar 1 envelope of dry yeast 2 teaspoons salt 1 ½ cups warm water 2 tablespoons olive oil If the dough is sticky add additional ½ cup flour until the dough comes together in a solid ball. Grease a large bowl, add the dough, cover and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour). Bake for 30 minutes on 375°.

Dalia's Egg Free Challah 5lb flour 2 cups sugar 5 ½ cups warm water 1 ½ cups oil 1/3 cup yeast 4 tsp salt

Crumb topping: 4 tablespoons oil ¾ cup flour ¾ cup sugar Crumble with a fork

Pour yeast into a bowl. Add sugar and let it proof. Add the rest of the ingredients. Knead. Let rise for 1 ½ hours. Take Challah, Shape and let rise for another ½ hour. Brush Challah with egg. Top with crumb or chocolate chips. Bake on 350° for about 30 minutes depending on the size of the Challah. 6
