hat would you say about a key-maker who sits nder the tree, in the dirty places. Definitely it ’t be his passion. He is doing it for his existence. Isn’t that the obvious answer? But wait!!
LOREM IPSUM ANAMIK ADHIKARY
n an age, when everybody is so worried about money, social respect and a luxurious life; most of us have almost forgotten our passion for work. Work nowadays for most of us is just to earn enough to satisfy our needs. And what would you say about a keymaker who sits under the tree, in the dirty places. Definitely it can’t be his passion. He is doing it for his existence. Isn’t that the obvious answer? But wait!! The reality is something completely in contrast to this. It is just today that I met this key-maker, aged around 65. Shafiqar Hussain is his name. He looks just like any other aged man (from the lower income group) in his mid-sixties. His rickety body frame, with white stubbles and a round black framed glass in no way echoes his passion for making keys. However, he has been making keys continuously for five hours when I met him. He says with a smile, “Babu..subah se yeh ragar hi raha hun…hath me jaan nahi hai…par phir bhi hath chal hi ja raha hai, ” pointing to his file(the one used to level steel/aluminum things). He even goes on to narrate few experiences of his, which he fondly cherishes. “Once, a young couple had come near the river bank from the nearest city. While going back, their car key somehow broke as and when they tried to open the door of the car. Unable to open the door, they asked for help from the local people around. Few people tried and after 3hrs they gave in. They suggested him to go near the market, and find this key-maker. They even suggested that initially he will deny & say that he is busy and cant do it. But you must not leave him. Keep asking him repeatedly and he will relent and thus do your work. So, the young couple came to him with the broken key and as expected he said, “nai ho paega humse. Ja ke koi showroom me dikhaye”. But the lady sat down in d dirt in4nt of his gumti and kept persisting. Finally he had to give in and made the key in less than 20 mins. Then he went to the river bank with him and the key worked just fine thus opening the car door and also starting the car. The man was awestruck. He said, “these people here tried to make it work for 3 hrs, and you did it in less 00
