CHICKEN WINGS

Chicken wings are no longer just for football fans. On virtually every menu these days, chicken wings make an appearance. This tantalizing cuisine is comprised of tasty chicken parts, deep-fried and tossed in various sauces. Buffalo wings were first introduced in 1964 and have been a staple since. Varying chicken wing flavors include: Plain, Barbecue, Honey Barbecue, Buffalo, and Spicy Buffalo. The enticement of chicken wings comes from not only the quantity of sauces, but in the wing itself. A chicken wing has the highest ratio of skin to meat, maximizing flavor and minimizing sadness. Durant offers a wide variety of wings, from sweet to spicy, boneless to bone-in. We’ve rounded up the area’s best, for all of your wing cravings.

MARCO’S PIZZA Marco’s wings come deep-fried and in three flavors. Per recommendation of the owner, we tried the plain wings with a ranch dipping sauce. Marco’s wings were delivered to our table hot out of the fryer and with a visible crunch. The wings had a nice smoky flavor which was made intense by the ranch dipping sauce. Without fail, Marco’s served the most economic wings in town, at $6.99 for 10 wings. 2832 W University Blvd. 580-924-1020

BUDGY’S PIZZA

Budgy’s, a small shop near Southeastern’s campus, delivered big flavor with their wings. Easily the sloppiest wings, Budgy’s offered a genuine chicken wing experience. The wings had layers of saucy goodness and a peppered bite to the breading. Budgy’s is the place to go if you enjoy finger-licking good spice! Their wings were reminiscent of teriyaki jerky, peppered and flavored for the right amount of kick. Combining good, juicy chicken and great flavor, we demolished these wings. 810 N 1st Ave. 580-924-5557

MAIN STREET BBQ For those that hate the labor-intensive process of eating chicken wings, Main Street Barbecue offers a boneless option. Their boneless white-meat wings are reminiscent of hearty chicken nuggets, doused in yummy sauce. We ordered the mild barbecue wings, and were surprised at the sweet flavor that greeted us. Paired with ranch, these wings were a score, combining the sweetness of the wing to the tanginess of the ranch. Main Street offers a pound of wings for $9.99, an easily shareable portion size. 42 W Main Street 580-745-9120 By Maddison Poteet

Texas Tulips

Pilot Point, TX - Photo ripped from the Internet

Most of you already have the deets on tulips. (If not, check our last edition of The Campus Note). And if you didn’t read it, then boo you. I’ll do a recap anyways. Tulips are very popular flowers, and were especially popular hundreds of years ago. Before roses took over the world of mainstream photo-worthy flowers, tulips were considered some of the most beautiful, and were valued at a higher price than houses! Wild, right? Well, did you know that Pilot Point, Texas, has 80 acres of fresh tulips waiting for their chance to shine? Yes, there is! About an hour and a half away, Pilot Point, Texas is home to Texas Tulips. Here, tulips grow in neat rows of every color imaginable! What better way to spend a day than to drive out to Texas Tulips, pick out some beautiful buds to take home, and snap a few insta-worthy pics to share with the world? I know that’s what I’ll be doing! Texas Tulips “U-pick” tulip fields open in late February and close when all the tulips have been picked. First come first serve! They are open seven days a week from 9A.M. to 8 P.M. The entry fee is $3 a person, and you can pick flowers for $2.50 a stem! They will wrap all your flowers in pretty, protective paper and put the stems in a nourishing flower gel before you leave. So, you can head down to Texas Tulips, take some amazing pictures, and pick out some breathtaking flowers to take home for under $20! Bring your friends, split the money for gas, and have a great day at Texas Tulips! By Ieysha Cheney

Spring Break Day Trips Spring Break is almost here! Can I get an AMEN? Have any plans...? Well, you should! There are so many great places to visit and explore in the area surrounding Durant. We chose 3 different day trip ideas that will make great Spring Break destinations, and they won’t break the bank!

Dallas, Texas (2 hours) Dallas is a great place to spend a day shopping around with friends, checking out all of the local food hubs, and taking some vibey urban pictures. You can also find the Dallas Blooms festival at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens until April 8th. The Gardens are open from 9-5, 7 days a week, and the general admission is $15. Eat at Velvet Taco ($) 3012 N. Henderson Ave. Dallas, TX

Broken Bow, Oklahoma (2 hours, 2 minutes) Whenever anyone says that they are vacationing in Broken Bow, they really mean that they are vacationing in Hotchatown, which is about 10 minutes north of Broken Bow. This quaint little town has so much to offer! You can float, kayak, or canoe down the Mountain Fork River, fish or swim in Broken Bow Lake, play mini golf and take old time photos at the Secluded Acres Resort, and eat some of the best pizza and wings ever made at Greatful Head Pizza!!!! Eat at Grateful Head Pizza Oven & Tavern. ($$) 10251 US 259, Broken Bow, OK

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (2 hours, 27 minutes) Oklahoma City is by far the most interesting, fun-filled city in all of Oklahoma! OKC has COUNTLESS things to do, and there are always new things to discover! The only downside to OKC is that it’s pretty far away, so take advantage of your day! Head out early in the morning, and come back late at night! Fill your day with visiting Underground OKC (look it up, it’s SUPER COOL) and then check out the Flaming Lips in the Paseo Art District for cool photos! Check out the zoo or any of the historical museums in the area and learn something new! Eat at Pho Lien Hoa ($) and discover OKC’s Vietnamese Community. Eat at Empire Slice House ($) and order by the slice. (Our recommendation is the Notorious P.I.G. & Foghorn Leghorn.) 1734 NW 16th St. OKC By Ieysha Cheney
