DREW EPTING COA Regional Director & Resource Director

FROM THE DIRECTOR

I continue to be blown away by the simplicity of Paul’s ministry strategy. In 1 Thessalonians 2:8 he says, “We loved you so much that we delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God, but our lives as well, because you had become to dear to us.” Paul says something astounding in this verse: ministry is not just sharing the gospel but sharing our lives. Paul didn’t stop at preaching the gospel at a weekly meeting, or drawing it out on a napkin over lunch, or teaching it in a bible study. Paul got into people’s lives and he let them into his. His ministry strategy was life-on-life relationships. Jesus did the same thing! In Mark 3:14 it says that Jesus “appointed twelve to be with him.” In Luke 9:18 it says, “Now it happened that as he was praying alone, the disciples were with him.” Did you catch that? Was he alone or were the disciples with him? The answer is, “Yes!” Jesus knew that even his private life couldn’t remain private if he was going to have a lasting impact on the men he invested in. Lasting impact comes through life-on-life contact.

But that is not where the real ministry happens. In fact, all the above the waterline events are primarily meant to fuel the below the waterline relationships. The real ministry happens in dorm rooms, in living rooms, at kitchen tables, on recreation fields, in fraternity and sorority houses – wherever life is happening! It also happens in the fears, failures, and fractures of life when we enter in, identify with, and then point students to the only one who can offer true and lasting purpose, security, and fulfillment.

We like to think of this as the Iceberg Principle. Only 10% of an iceberg is above the water. The other 90% is out of sight beneath the water. That’s what our ministry is like. What is easy to see are the meetings, bible studies, conferences, retreats, and summer projects.

To God be the glory,

As you browse through this report, we hope you see the power of relationships in helping students be impacted by the gospel! It is a labor of love, just as it was for Paul. Christ has so loved us in that he not only shared his life with us but gave his life for us, that we are compelled to do the same for the students on our campuses. Thank you for prayerfully and financially partnering with us in this work to “glorify God by building laborers on the campus for the lost world.”

LEADERSHIP TEAM

1. Our theme as we have launched into this new year is “Strong in Grace” from 2 Timothy 2:1. Pray for our staff and student leaders to daily experience God’s grace in its two forms: unmerited favor that forgives our sin as well as enabling power that fuels our lives. 2. For Christ-centered laborers to be raised up and sent out (Matt. 9:37-38) 3. For growth in ethnic diversity (Eph. 2:14-16)

2016-2017 CATALYTIC EVENTS FALL RETREAT Around a month or two into our semester at each school, we have a large catalytic event for multiple schools to gather. The purpose of this retreat is to build shared experiences with students we meet at the beginning of the semester or those we know so that they can be brought to hear the gospel in a large setting. This year we had three seperate Fall Retreats for nine participating campuses within and connected to

AUGUSTA UNIVERSITY

T

CAM P U S U P DATE here was a lot of newness to our 20162017 year in ministry.

We had a new team, a new dorm, new ministry themes (Revived - Isaiah 6:1-8, Compel - 2 Corinthians 5:1415), and tons of new students at Augusta University. By God’s grace we were able to disciple (establishing and equipping in the faith) over 30 sophomores and juniors. Our staff and student leaders led close to 80+ students in bible studies all over the AU campus, including some of the most influential places on campus: baseball team, xc/track team, Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, cheerleading team, ZTA & ADPi sororities, and a co-ed bible study in the new freshman dorm (Oak Hall). God provided us great favor at AU! Some of the most explosive moments of spiritual growth and interest were seen at our regional retreats, which happen quarterly. We had 75 students go on our Fall SCENES FROM THE SEMESTER (clockwise from top left): group picture of Augusta University from Fall Retreat; a football viewing party held during the semester; kickoff

Retreat in September in Charleston and this year we took 50 students (36 for the first time) on our 5-day New Year's Conference in Greenville. This is many more than in past years; God truly is causing many laborers to be built up. We had a ski retreat in February and 70 students from AU went. Currently there are 20 AU students on our Summer Leadership Project. These retreats create so many opportunities for gospel follow-up. Our ministry grew in width and depth this year, and we have been blown away by God’s faithfulness to sanctify students and save many. Thirty-four students at AU have experienced salvation in Christ this year. God used so many things to build our ministry into a team of student laborers. From amazing events (Super Bowl Party, Casino Night, Cookouts, Tailgates), to deep bible studies, to catalytic retreats, to humbling conversations, the Lord has done much and deserves all glory! - Alan Martin AU Campus Director cookout event to connect with students where 300 students came ;Pi Kapps at our Winter Retreat from AU; women from our Winter Retreat from AU.

“I

grew up in a semi-religious family. Growing up I was never forced to go to church, but I was told to pray every night and show God that I was thankful. Going into middle and high school, I found my identity in whichever friend group I was a part of. Entering college, I was so happy to be free and started to find my ultimate comfort and joy in partying and men. It was not until my second year of college that I found a deeper purpose in the Lord. I had finally found the One that laid his life down for me and from that day forward I have been living for the Greater One. My journey has not been easy, but it has been rewarding.

God allowed Campus Outreach to impact my life in a very substantial way. CO showed me that it was okay for me to take the masks off, because Christ knew what was hiding under those masks. Campus Outreach gave me the tools for building a personal relationship with God and loving him past the superficial level. Now those tools are helping me lead women in my community and I am forever grateful for the foundation God has given me. - LaSherrica Christian Senior Psychology Major

his past year the ministry at Georgia College grew in several incredible ways.

The most noticeable area that we have grown in, is our deep love and hunger for the word of God. Students love studying and learning about God through His word. We are excited to see how God will use this to impact the campus. Another area that we have seen growth is in prayer. We are beginning to see a culture of prayer amongst the students in our ministry. We have seen our corporate prayer meeting grow as well as students desiring to pray outside of that time on their own. Prayer is always an

area that we want to fight to grow in and so this has been encouraging to see and we hope that we will continue to grow as a ministry of prayer. The last notable area of growth is in our influence with Greeks on campus. God has opened so many doors in greek ministry with ATO, KA, Phi Mu, and KD. We now have students in over 7 different greek chapters deeply involved with our ministry. This upcoming fall we are excited to see what God does in the lives of many greek students. - Carson Baura GCSU Campus Director

his summer at SLP we were blown away by God bringing 26 students from GSU on the project! We couldn’t be more excited about the number of quality, spiritually hungry, young leaders we have involved in our ministry. God has done amazing work through opening doors for fraternity and sorority ministry. We have been working with four sororities on campus and also two fraternities, and have seen eight students come to Christ in the Greek system! There were 25 professions of faith on the campus this year, including about half of those being students sharing with their classmates and friends! God is working in a powerful way and we are excited to see what He will do in the future!

Also this summer, one of our newest staff members got married! Michael Mazul married his wife Hollin on July 7th. Hollin will be working with Campus Outreach as well, and we are excited to have her as a part of the team! In the fall we hope to continue to see our students and staff live out of an overflow of their love for God and radically impact their classes, organizations, sports teams, and dorms. This fall we have many big events we are excited about including a rap concert on Aug. 30th which includes 2 Christian rappers, Tony Tillman and nobigdyl. We are praying this event and many others will be used to build diverse relationships for the advancement of the gospel on the campus and in the world! his past year in Campus Outreach was great! Not only have I grown in so many ways but God has also grown Campus Outreach in ways that are hard to imagine as well. We meet and shared the Gospel with many students during Fall Intramurals. I meet the five freshmen that I would later lead in a Blue Book through intramurals. Three of which are now at beach project this summer. I’ve learned not only the skills I need in order to be an obedient Christian in my personal life, but also how to take those skills and knowledge and teach others

as well. Austin led my d-group for the first time this year with the closest guys in my life. We went to war every week fighting to grow deeper in our relationship with Christ as we also grew deeper with one other. his past year at Jacksonville University and at our budding work at the University of North Florida, we begged God to make Colossians 1:10 to the church in Colossae true for our student leaders. We saw Him answer that prayer in spades! We are coming off of one of our most fruitful years of ministry in Jacksonville to date. Nine students professed faith in Christ for the first time- some of which were led to Christ by fellow students who were not Christians when they first arrived at college! Throughout the year, we had weekly gatherings at both schools and many small group Bible studies, and the staff were regularly en-

gaged with 150 students in either evangelistic and discipleship relationships. As we fully launch UNF this fall, we are eager to see the Lord build on the foundation that was laid this past year for the work in Jacksonville to continue to thrive and multiply. Pray for the new staff team to settle well in Jacksonville, for the team to be fully-funded, and for our student leaders to continue to own the vision and the vehicle of Campus Outreach at an ever-increasing level. - Alan Marsh COA Area Director JU Campus Director

s Campus Outreach began to replant at UNF this past year, a key strategy of the ministry was to throw catalytic events for fellowship, community building, and recruitment. While all of the events that we hosted were successful in their own regard, I feel that the most encouraging event was the Christmas party that we had just before winter break. This Christmas party was the first large joint event that we held for both UNF and JU, and the outcome greatly exceeded expectations! We had originally hoped and prayed for at least 50 students combined between both schools to attend, but we had a total attendance of over 100! This event not only provided a time for

he nature of our campus is that of change. Our campus culture and student body love change, and as a ministry we experienced a great deal of change in 2016-2017. For starters we saw God open doors in Greek life this year that we hadn’t seen in years past. We did something called a leadership study, designed was draw the new members into a weekly study that would allow us opportunity to develop them as leaders and build relationships in hopes to share the gospel with them. Both fraternities and sororities were a part of this and we saw many relationships built and some that turned into conversions by the grace of God. These studies led us as a staff team to think about something more specific for Greeks in light of the summer so we did a project called the Summer Leadership Summit with 5-10 Greek guys. The goal was very similar in development of leaders and building re-

SCENES FROM THE SEMESTER (from top to bottom): group of students at a “Friends”giving during the school year; women involed in the ministry with Katie Orr;

lationships but the added goal was more time spent. In our time at USC we have seen a real challenge in getting multiple touches with students each week and for some every other week. We recognize time is the currency of relationships, and therefore it has been our goal to create a consistent opportunity that is attractive to our campus culture that we would see them and be able to build relationships as well. God has been very faithful in this. Another major change was that of our staff. Beginning the year we had 2 single staff girls and 1 single staff guy. By May our single staff guy transitioned into grad school and one of our single staff girls transitioned into seminary full time. Beginning the new year we will have a newlywed couple and a new single resource staff girl. This change has brought fresh ideas and energy and we look forward to the next year to see what God will do. - Danny Myers Area Director, USC Campus Director

his year I was able to see God open so many doors, specifically in sorority life at USC. Through ministry in the Honors Residence Hall, I was able to be connected to over 15 women in Greek Life and build deep relationships with a few. This year we also began our first ever “Greek Women’s Leadership Study”, where selected new members of different chapters were a part of a 5-week study based on leadership and being a well-rounded woman. This study provided countless opportunities for the gospel. Through these studies and a process of evangelism and prayer, two Delta Delta Delta sisters and one Pi Beta Phi sister came to Christ this year. This next year we will enter into the school

year with 3 Greek women beginning the process of evangelizing and discipling women in their chapters. I am so excited to not only continue to reach out to women in Greek life myself, but also begin the process of equipping these women to be lifelong laborers, starting by ministering in their very own sororities. God is doing something very awesome in the hearts of these women, and I can’t wait to see Him reach even further this upcoming year.”

ummer Leadership Project has been something that God has used to completely change my life, not only temporarily but also for eternity. I came on Summer Leadership Project two years ago and shortly after I arrived, God called me to Himself through being able to see the gospel lived out by people around me and a talk that allowed me to see that “The Christian life” isn’t about what you know or a life of rules to live by. It was through that talk that I put my faith in Jesus and learned being a Christian is about trusting and loving The Lord through a relationship with Him. Two years later, I am back on Summer Leadership Project as a team leader and it has been nothing short of amazing. I have enjoyed this summer immensely, as it has allowed me to lead girls in their walk with God as they are also leading girls. The Lord

has pushed me in relying on Him a lot this summer, especially when things get hard and exhausting. However, this summer has also been a time that I have been able to rejoice and praise The Lord for everything He offers us and allows us to witness. The girls that are on my team this summer are so encouraging, loving, and on fire for God which has been such an encouragement for me. I am so thankful that The Lord has allowed me to spend a summer with such gospel centered women who are wanting to walk deeper and deeper with Him everyday of their lives.” - Kailyn Odum Augusta University Senior

PROJECT S U M M ARY

his summer I had the amazing opportunity to lead alongside Taylor Smith a group of 12 students to the Philippines for 7 weeks on Campus Outreach's Cross Cultural Project. During this time overseas we experienced a lot. The purpose of the CCP was to pioneer a new city and three different colleges to see if there is potential for Campus Outreach to send a permanent staff team to that city in the future. The students gained a ton of ministry experience as they tackled a multitude of barriers such as language barriers, religious barriers, and cultural barriers. We experienced the long hours of ministry as we investigated these schools, this city, and the awesome people of Tacloban. Students experienced a ton of evangelism and leading bible studies. Overall, the team as a whole experienced the sovereignty of God as he brought us to the city of Tacloban, the col-

leges, and the students there, when we were planning on going to totally different city. As a team our eyes were opened to seeing ways that God was being faithful. We saw quick recoveries from people being sick, we saw him open doors to us being allowed on the campuses, we saw him open doors for the students to share the gospel, and finally we saw God work in the hearts of students as 4 students professed faith in Jesus Christ, saying that they now see a new hope for the future as they look at how Jesus loves them and what he accomplished on the cross. This summer was huge for the students and staff all together. Our team was amazing, and Taylor and I couldn't have asked for a better group of students! We are extremely grateful for this opportunity, and our lives and view of God have grown in many ways! Thank you to those who prayed for our time in the Philippines. n 2013, while each of the members of this year’s Cross Cultural Project were excitedly starting university, or getting ready to wrap up a high school sporting career, or engaging in the workforce, a super typhoon deemed “Yolanda” hit Tacloban City, Philippines and effectively turned the city upside-down. Thousands in the provincial town were killed, while still more were left without family members, a steady food source, or a source of income. Skip forward approximately four years, and we are in the midst of spending six months preparing to live and minister in a city called Dumaguete for the summer...until terrorist activity begins to pop up in a neighboring town called Marawi in the Mindanao region. Without knowing any details about the city, and minus a detailed plan for the trip, we reroute for Tacloban with just enough time to spare. Looking back, the fact that we thought we were the ones changing the plan is actually hilarious. “Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the Earth” -- Psalm 46:10. As soon as we landed, a Tacloban local greeted Georgie (a team member) with the words, “Tacloban is a renewed city.” Comforted by the welcome, we felt

certain that God had directed our path all the way to this little place. The four and a half weeks spent on the campuses of EVSU, LNU, and St. Paul passed in a worshipful blur. All of the events we experienced, the foods we ate, the sights we saw, and the people we met can, unfortunately, never be expressed with the fullest sensation with which we felt them as they happened. What can be communicated, for the glory of the Father alone, however, is the honest-to-goodness truth that at least four Filipino students came to saving faith through the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, and each of us has been profoundly changed by the loving hand of God through this experience. “After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!’ “To God be the glory!” - Christine Hammond 2017 GCSU Grad
