INTRODUCTION Welcome to London and the 2013 London Design Festival. This is the eleventh year of the festival one that Camron has been involved in for the past seven years and we have seen the tremendous evolution of this festival over the past few years. For those of you coming to London and collecting the guide, you will see that 188 events are listed while The Global Design Forum is in the second year. When we started working on The London Design Festival, no international press came to London while now we have media attending from 28 countries. Most of you will already be familiar with the London Design Festival website www.londondesignfestival.com which is the most useful portal to the many activities. You will also have a Festival Guide. Highlights this year are plentiful. Endless Stair, the Festival’s landmark project, will be on the grass in front of Tate Modern, overlooking the Thames. It’s open to the public and free from 12 September until 10 October. The Victoria and Albert Museum is, again, the Festival’s hub and a great variety of installations and exhibitions have been set in place. Swarovski have invited leading designers to select objects from the museum’s permanent collection which can be viewed through specially created lenses. There’s a fascinating trompe l’oeil cork floor over the Medieval galleries, a spectacular chandelier by Bocci cascading down from the cupola to the main entrance and Scholten & Baijings have set up a ‘dinner party’ in the Norfok House Music Room. True to this year’s theme; ‘Design is Everywhere’, across the capital the various design districts are organising events within clusters of design studios, design retailers and museums. The design destinations include: 100% Design at Earls Court, Decorex International at its new location in Perks Field and the Orangery, designjunction at The Sorting Office, Tent London and Superbrands London at the Old Truman Brewery, the Southbank Centre and Focus13 at the Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour. In this pack we’ve included press releases, highlights, suggestions for the best places to eat and a few ideas for ‘downtime’ plus exhibitions and events going on in the city. Also, most importantly there’s a list of WiFi hotspots, something we know is so important when you’re moving around town. The Camron team will be on hand to help you navigate your way around the festival. Have a great time. We look forward to seeing you next week. Many of our journalist friends who are receiving this around the world and cannot join us, we hope this at least brings some of The London Design Festival to you! Best wishes, Judy Dobias Managing Director

The tone is set by an ice bucket of Krug on the bar counter; however, the fine cocktails, old-school martinis and updated classics such as the Covent Garden Mojito (with blood-orange purĂŠe), may be a better bet. Oblix In The Shard Rainer Becker’s latest creation, Oblix, was inspired by the incredible view of London’s unique skyline. Taking inspiration from the location on the 32nd floor of The Shard, Rainer was reminded of the rooftop views of New York and references a New York grill as backdrop and inspiration for the menu. Oblix offers both a restaurant and a bar lounge that is located over the whole of the 32nd floor. Secret Tip: We would recommend popping along to the bar, not the restaurant!

8. SERPENTINE SACKLER CENTRE Architect Zaha Hadid has transformed the Magazine, a former 19th century gunpowder store into a second home for the Serpentine Gallery, which will open to the public on 28th September. The Serpentine Sackler Gallery is a short walk from the main gallery and will feature a 900 square metre space that will include a new gallery, restaurant and social space. In typical Hadid style, the new structure is a curvaceous sculptural form. But its light and transparent form complements rather than competes with the Grade II listed neo-classical architecture of the original building. It is the Zaha Hadid Architects' first permanent structure in central London and continues a relationship between the Gallery and the architect, which began with the inaugural Serpentine Gallery Pavilion Commission in 2000. The landscape around the new building will be designed and planted by the world-renowned landscape artist Arabella Lennox-Boyd. Our suggestion is not to book in the restaurant but go for a drink around 6pm, especially on a Friday night with live music, it doesn't get better.
