The CAMROSE BOOSTER, December 2, 2014 – Page 4
Canada Cup of Curling starts Wednesday By Dan Jensen
Camrose and area sports fans will have a hard time finding a better brand of curling than what they will see in the EnCana Arema this week during the Dec. 3 to 7 Home Hardware Canada Cup of Curling presented by Meridian. “We are going to have the top seven men’s and top seven women’s teams in the country competing,” said event manager Terry Morris, from the Canadian Curling Association. “It’s going to be the best curling you will ever see.” Canada Cup of Curling marketing manager Ken Duggan believes a case can be made that the event, which will include Team John Morris (Team Canada), Olympic champions Jennifer Jones and Brad Jacobs, and 2014 Scotties Tournament of Hearts champion Rachel Homan, will have the best curlers in the world. “There are some who argue,” he said, “that the curling at this event is better than at the Brier or the Scotties.” Teams will be competing for a $70,000 purse (on
both the men’s and women’s side), as well as a spot in the Road to the Roar, which is the first leg of the Olympic trials. The top prize for the men’s and women’s teams is $25,000. The Home Hardware Canada Cup will be one of six events in the Canadian Curling Association’s 20142015 Season of Champions and the first in the Alberta Triple Crown. The second will be the World Financial Group Continental Cup, which will be held at the Markin McPhail International Arena at Canada Olympic Park Jan. 8 to 11, while the third will be the Team Horton’s Brier Canadian Men’s Championship, which will be held at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary Feb. 28 to March 8. Morris feels the EnCana Arena is an ideal venue for the Home Hardware Canada Cup. “There is not a bad seat in the house,” he said. “Whatever seat you are in you get a great view of all five sheets.” The majority of teams started arriving on Tuesday (today) to practice and get
a feel for the ice. All teams will be officially introduced at a banquet to be held this (Tuesday) evening at the Norsemen Inn. “We are going to treat the banquet as our opening ceremonies, said Duggan. “We are not going to have an official ceremony on the ice on Wednesday morning, other than the traditional piping in of the teams.” Home Hardware Canada Cup of Curling volunteers started getting the EnCana Arena ready last Friday with a levelling flood, followed on Saturday with the placement of the dividers and the painting of the rings. “Our ice maker is Jamie Bourassa, who has an assistant who will be coming with him,” said Darren McDermott, a member of the event’s facilities committee. “Jamie has done the ice at our facility before and he has always done a great job. It has been fantastic for both the fans and the players.” The Home Hardware Canada Cup of curling marketing campaign has seen tremendous response from
sponsors and fans wishing to purchase advance tickets. “We have at least 1,100 tickets sold for every draw right now, but we are expecting to have good walkups throughout the week,” said Duggan. “We’re pretty confident that the final games on the weekend will be completely sold out.” The Home Hardware Canada Cup of Curling organizing committee is made up of representatives from the Camrose, Hay Lakes and Daysland Curling Clubs, which will receive a portion of the proceeds from each ticket that is sold. “The legacy they receive is based on ticket sales but the there is also a guarantee of an amount that they will get,” said Morris. Major events like the Home Hardware Canada Cup of Curling, the Tim Horton’s Brier have proven to have a major economic impacts on the communities that host them. “The 2014 Ford World Women’s Championship, which I was the event manager for, was the economic driver of the year in St. John,” said Morris.
The events also help spark interest among young people in the sport of curling. “The game is on an upswing from a participant and from a viewership perspective,” said Morris. “There are as many people who watch the Brier, for example, as people who watch the Grey Cup game.” Mark Kennedy, who is a second on Team Koe, was scheduled to speak this morning to junior high school students at 11:30 this morning and to high school students at 2:30 this afternoon. “We are really encouraged by the enthusiasm he will create for curling with young people,” said Duggan. “The more people we can get involved in the game the better.” Camrose hosted the Canadian Curling Association/World Curling Federation Continental Cup of Curling, won by Team World over Team North America in 2008, the Alberta Scotties Provincials in 2011 and the Boston Pizza Cup Men’s Provincials in 2012.
Team Canada enjoys interacting with curling fans By Dan Jensen
Team Canada took the time to speak with fans and sign autographs at Hauser Home Hardware Building Centre Nov. 25. “We love doing this, especially in a place like Camrose,” said Team Canada skip John Morris. “We have been here before for a few events and found the curling community is very well supported.” Team Canada is looking at the Dec. 3 to 7 Home Hardware Canada Cup at EnCana Arena as an early-season chance to see where it stands against other tough competition. The team held a training camp in Edmonton this past weekend and returned to Camrose today (Tuesday) to test the EnCana ice. “We haven’t played too many events together yet so we need a competition like this, which is notoriously one of the toughest to win all year,” said Morris. “We know it (Home Hardware Canada Cup) is going to be a good hard-fought battle.” Morris never had any qualms with the ice at EnCana Arena during the Continental Cup of Curling in 2008 or the Boston Pizza Cup Men’s Provincials in 2012. “I forget who did the ice at the Continental Cup but it has been always been really good,” said Morris. “It curls four to five feet and is nice is consistent.” Morris is happy that the forecast calls for cold weather for the entire week. “Good cold prairie weath-

er is ideal for making curling ice,” he said. “Warmer weather plays havoc on the humidity levels in the building and makes it tougher on the ice maker. Cold and dry weather is the best that the ice makers can ask for.” While Team Canada did not exactly lit the world on fire with its first two events minus
Carter Rycroft, Morris feels it has learned a lot about communication and what it is going to take to perform at a high level. “This is our first year playing together as a team, so I think any expectations that people had that we were going to be perfect out of the gate were not really realistic,” he said.
Morris has participated in many Briers and played third on the Kevin Martin team that won the gold medal at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, so he is able to take in stride the pressure that comes with the title of Team Canada. “The pressure that we are facing now is a good kind of pressure,” he said. “I would rather have the pressure of being one of the better teams at the event than someone who is on the outside looking in kind of thing. We have all played in many big events and major competitions where there have been lots of fans and I think that is something as an athlete that you thrive on. You want that kind of pressure and you want that big game situation.” Despite some of the big prize money that is up for grabs at curling events ($25,000 to the winner of the Home Hardware Canada Cup of Curling), curling is still considered an amateur sport. “You don’t make enough money from the game for it to be a full-time job,” said Morris, noting that he is a full time fire captain, while his lead, Nolan Thiessen, works as a chartered accountant and Rycroft has his own business. “We make a lot of sacrifices and commitments to curl and it is only through the help of great sponsorships that we are able to keep going. Without those sponsorships it would be really tough.” Morris said it has been a
learning curve for him to get back to throwing skip stones after so many years of throwing as a third. “It has been an adjustment for me to throw that last brick but I like a good challenge. This will be another good challenge for me this year.” Morris is hoping his team does better at the Home Hardware Canada Cup than the Martin team at the Boston Pizza Cup in Camrose in 2012. “I think we lost in the semis in that one so it wasn’t one of our favourite events,” he said. “It wasn’t that we didn’t love being here, it was that we didn’t play our best. We were having an off week and that was right around the time that Kevin’s hernia injury. He was just coming back from that so it was sort of an off year for us.” Morris is excited with the number of new teams that are coming up in the sport, not just in Alberta but also Canada. “This is probably the most I have ever seen the changing of the guard in curling,” he said. “Usually there are a few new teams every year but this year there seems there are quite a few of them, not that that is a bad thing. I think fans will have to start getting used to some other teams they want to cheer for. I spoke with one fan today who told me that he barely recognized half of the teams that played in the televised event this past weekend.”

Bailey Theatre Society expresses appreciation
Bailey Theatre production manager Simon Williams, left, presented a certificate to John Rawson for volunteering more than 1,000 hours at the downtown theatre.
New Bailey Theatre manager Doug Roper samples some of the desserts at a volunteer appreciation event on Nov. 18. By Murray Green
Bailey Theatre Society volunteer coordinator Marian Williams invited supporters who donated their time to help with the theatre’s many shows over the past year. The first volunteer appreciation evening on Nov. 18 was held with comments from president David Francouer. “Without your assistance, we would not be able to operate this wonderful historic venue. Thank you, each and every one of you for all your time and effort into contributing to the Bailey Theatre,” said Francoeur. “At this time I especially want to thank our amazing volunteer coordinator, whose dedication to the cause has been absolutely amazing. A big thank you to Marian Williams.” He also introduced the new manager Doug Roper. “Without your volunteerism the Bailey Theatre wouldn’t be in existence. Many theatres around the world have turned into parking lots. The Bailey Theatre could have had the same circumstance happen to it without your love and assistance,” said Roper. “I would like to applaud your efforts in keeping the theatre going.” Volunteers are what makes organizations successful. “I’ve had the opportunity to work with hundreds of volunteers over my 25 year career in theatre and I can tell you that the volunteers are the very cornerstone of theatre operations. We are here to say thank you from the heart,” said Roper. John Rawson received the first volunteer of the year award for his many hours of service over the past four years. “Its always fun and you never know what happens around here. If anyone wants to volunteer, it is always exciting,” said Rawson. The theatre will be hosting A Fist Full of Blues with a tribute to the blues of Christmas on Dec. 12. This special Christmas show will be led by Big Hank Lionhart and his band. Contact the Bailey Box Office for more information on upcoming shows.

Have you noticed that since the maintenance of the hiways has been privatized (which happened many years ago), the conditions seem to be “icy” “snowcovered” and stay that way far too long. We recently took a road trip to Grande Prairie and it happened to be during a snow event. The roads were treacherous to say the least, but there was a section by Fox Creek for about 80 kilometres that was clear and snow and ice free. It was well sanded and driving conditions were fine! The weather conditions were the same, but this area was well cared for. I think that in the name of saving money the road crews let the hiways deteriorate to a very dangerous level where people are hurt or killed in collisions. Yes snow tires will help ... but lets get the road crews out there doing their part in keeping Alberta highways safe. George Shostak, Camrose Asking the right questions
Sometimes making the right decisions means asking the right questions. Mr. Olson asks, “Shouldn’t every Canadian have the right to… clean air… clean water, and… healthful food?” and
then opines. “It seems like a no-brainer to me!” Let’s put it in the constitution! I do not doubt Mr. Olson’s good intentions, but I have a few more questions. How does Mr. Olson define ‘clean’? Do I, for example, have a ‘right’ to not smell my neighbor’s cigarette? How about his cooking? Or the flowers in his garden? Is one part in a million unclean? What about one part in a billion? We encounter the same difficulty with water. Is the mineral spring water I drink ‘contaminated’? What about the treated water which comes out of our taps? Water is made safe to drink by adding chemicals that some people classify as ‘contaminants’. The tragedy in Walkerton, Ontario illustrates the dangers of improperly treated water. And just what does he mean by ‘healthful food”? For 50 years we were told saturated fats are unhealthy because somebody did some shoddy research. This isn’t unusual. Meta-researcher Dr. John Ionnidis concludes that “as much as 90 percent of the published medical information that doctors rely on is… is misleading, exaggerated, and often flatout wrong.” This includes research on diet and nutrition as well. Most damning of all is the researchers themselves do not dispute Ionnidis’ conclusion. Mr. Olson cites an alleged “over one hundred nations” that have constitutional protections for these ‘rights’ – I can’t help but wonder how many of those nations actually protect their air, water, and food as well as Canada. It might make us feel good to pass laws or enshrine vaguely defined rights in our constitution but does it really protect anything? The old Soviet Union had one of the most liberal
constitutions in the world, enshrining a multitude of ‘rights’ and still the government felt free to jail or kill its own citizens and rape the environment in the name of social justice. Laws and constitutions do not protect us, at best they reflect the values we admire. If you really want to protect your water, air, and food learn protect the values that made Canada one of the wealthiest and cleanest nations on Earth. Make no mistake, it is our wealth which give us the freedom to keep our country clean. Poor countries, quite literally, can’t afford to take out garbage. We not only take it out but we dispose of it safely, and we could do even better if the likes of David Suzuki didn’t place roadblocks in front of every innovation. Dave Gosse, Camrose Crossing the floor
The latest floor crossings from our party, The Wildrose Alliance, are really disappointing. I do not blame Kerry Towel for crossing. Our poor failure to secure seats in the last by elections was a horrible defeat. Now I am no expert when it comes to politics of any kind. But this is how I view the situation here. Our party has failed to offer Albertans anything. By just saying that we will be a better moral government might work in church. But not in the political world. Our party has to now offer Albertans something in exchange for their support. The upper leadership better change their ways of how they operate. If not, our party will hit the bottom just like the Titanic did in April 1912. Just something for us Wildrose members to think about. Lorne Vanderwoude, Camrose

New Job Grant program helps employers train their workers By Dan Jensen
A new government funded program is helping employers increase productivity by improving the skills of their workers. The Canada-Alberta Job Grant pays two thirds of the cost of training an employer, up to a maximum of $10,000 per year. “There will be more than $3 million available for employee training up until April of next year, after which there will be $3.8 million available for the next year (April to March) said Canada Jobs, Skills Training and Labour workforce consultant Moyra Kennedy in a presentation to Camrose Chamber of Commerce members at the Best Western Plus Camrose Resort Casino Nov. 5. “The funding is handed out on a first come first served basis.” The Canada-Alberta Job grant program is employer driven in that the employer determines who he or she wants to train and the type of training that is needed. “It has been developed on the premise that if the employer increases training (he or she) is going to increase productivity and increase employee retention,” said Kennedy. “We all know the more effort we put employees the more valued the employees will feel and the more apt they will be to stick around as opposed to going across the street.” The Canada-Alberta Job Grant program is open to private and non-profit sector employers in Alberta of all sizes who have an ACAN (corporate access number). “Public sector employers such as municipalities and first Nations Bands are not eligible,” said Kennedy. “The reason for that is that municipalities are government funded and they (government) don’t want any double dipping.” Eligible trainees may include new or existing workers who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents. “Temporary foreign workers, those with temporary work permits and students on educational visas are not eligible,” said Kennedy, nor are immediate family members, a member of the board or council of the applicant, or a person who will not be employed by the applicant after the training are also not eligible. “You have to be committed if you are going to access the funding that you are going to be hiring them afterward.” Kennedy said employers may wish to challenge the stipulation that the person who is receiving the train-

ing cannot be related to the employer. “This kind of contradicts all the efforts the Alberta government is doing in trying to keep our rural communities alive and keep youth in the communities. There is much room for interpretation and much room for discussion.” The program does not place any restrictions on who the employer may choose as a training provider. “It can be a post secondary institution, it can be a private consultant, it can be an industry association or a union,” said Kennedy. “Whatever training they can find within the area. The Alberta government does not maintain a list of eligible training providers but you can go to the ALIS website (ALIS.alberta.com) and get some excellent suggestions.” The program covers only direct training costs, such as tuition fees charged by the training provider, the mandatory student fees, textbooks, software and examination fees. It does not cover travel expenses, bus passes, health care feees, child care, living allowances or assets the business already has or needs to operates, such as computers, telephones and work office supplies. Training must be short term incremental and can only begin after an application has been made. “It needs to be a minimum of 25 hours in a year,” said Kennedy. “If the course is less than 25 hours it can be bundled with two or three courses that add up to the 25 hour minimum. The course can be onsite, it can be in the classsroom and it can be part-time, but it has
to be delivered by a third party training provider and it must result in some sort of credition, whether it be a record of completion, a mark or certificate, or industry recognized credentials.” The job grant does not cover the cost of apprenticeships. “They (apprenticeships)are funded by the apprenticeship administered training and there are many other grants, bursaries and funding options already available for them,” said Kennedy. “If the employee needs preapprenticeship training to get(his or her) mark up to the point of being accepted into an apprenticeship program that definitely is covered.” Employers may access the application forms (they must be printed and then mailed) on the CanadaAlberta Job Grant program website. They are encouraged to submit the forms at least thirty days before the actual training commences to ensuruere that the processing time and approved timelines are observed. Kennedy said the employers pay the entire cost of the program up front. “Once the employee starts training you can submit a form to have one third of the eligible training costs paid for. You get the other third reimbursed once the employee has completed the program.” The Canada-Alberta Job Grant program online application guide at A lbertaCanada.com /jobgrant has an instructional video and a section of frequently asked questions.

CAMROSE & DAYSLAND
Anna Olesa Durand Anna Olesa Durand passed away on November 25, 2014 with her family by her side at the age of 94. Anna was born September 17, 1920 to parents Ole and Tilda Hanson on their farm north of Monitor, AB. Anna attended Neutral Hills School, riding to and from on horseback. Growing up, she worked very hard on the farm and, at the age of 17, she moved to Camrose to work where she met the love of her life before moving to New Norway. Anna married Henry on January 20, 1940 and became an instant mother to four children, as well as having 15 children, to make her family complete. Anna’s greatest love was her family. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Her door was always open and there were always extras who came to stay. Anna always had enough food and baking for unexpected company. She was known for the whitest wash and cleanest house in town, as well as her fresh baked buns – especially the cinnamon buns. She was always concerned for others and never wanted to be a bother to anyone else. On July 28, 2014, Anna suffered a stroke and spent over two months in St. Mary’s Hospital. She moved to Bethany Meadows on October 1, 2014. Her heart was set on going home where she loved to be. The family would like to thank all the staff at Bethany Meadows Oak Cottage for the care and kindness given to our mother during her stay there. Your care and thoughtfulness will not quickly be forgotten. She was predeceased by her husband Henry; both parents Ole and Tilda; sons Gene and Danny; stepson Robert; stepdaughter Louise; sons-in-law Ed Lewin, Bing Wilcox, Willy Dahl and Jim Backs; brothers Olav C. and Olav L. Hanson; sisters Mabel Hanson, Gladys Bogen, Ida Gregory, Thelma Bogen, Elsie Sitler and Delores Bogen. FCC assists Armena Athletic Association By Dan Jensen
The Armena Athletic Association has received $5,000 from the Farm Credit Canada AgriSpirit Fund for improvements to its outdoor skating facility. “We’re going to use it to make a 1,000 square foot addition to our existing 600 square foot skating shed,” explained Armena Athletic Association director Laura Chapman. “We’re going to be creating storage and concession areas and bringing in indoor plumbing and heating.” The total estimated cost of the project is $150,000. “Our plan is to do it in two phases,” said association director Angie Selin. “The first stage will be to get the shell done. After that we will work on the water, gas and sewer.” The assistance from FCC brought the total amount raised for the facility to approximately $50,000. “We received a Camrose County legacy grant and a $5,000 donation from Fortis,” said Chapman. “We were in the running for a grant from UFA Rural from the Roots Up Get ‘n’ Give Contest,” said Chapman. “We missed this September’s deadline for the UFA award but we will be submitting an application again come December.” The Armena Athletic Association expects that the completed “shack” will be more than a place where

users of the skating facility can change clothes and skates. “It will be a meeting and gathering place, a place for people to come together,” said Selin. The FCC AgriSpirit Fund awards rural groups across Canada between $5,000 and $25,000 for community involvement projects such as recreation and community centres, libraries and emergency service training facilities. The fund supports much needed projects and celebrates the people responsible for making
a positive difference in the lives around them. To receive funding, selected groups must meet specific criteria prior to implementing their projects. Nationally, 1,079 applications were received for FCC Agri-Spirit funding, a clear indication that people in rural Canada are passionate about their communities and doing their part to ensure they continue to thrive. “It takes a lot of heart and soul to make a difference in any community,” said Don Anderson

FCC vice president, Prairie North. “And the diversity of this year’s FCC AgriSpirit Fund recipients shows that the spirit of volunteerism is alive and well in rural communities across the country. I congratulate all of the individuals who stand behind these projects and wish them success in their endeavours.” Anyone who would like to make a donation to the Armena skating shed project is encouraged to call Michael Wetsch at 780-6780669, or email m_wetsch@ hotmail.com.
The Camrose RCMP Detachment is concerned about the increasing number of false alarm calls to which it responds. Cpl. Beth Philipp expressed those concerns to Camrose County councillors at a council meeting on Nov. 12. “We responded to 120 calls from January to October and it takes about an hour and a half for each one. It can be alarms and motion sensors. False alarms waste time that we can be doing other duties,” said Cpl. Philipp. “We respond to distress alarms, but the last one I went to I couldn’t see anyone in distress. We phoned a cell number and the person answered at the airport and no one was home. I broke in and it turned out to be a problem with the code.” Cpl. Philipp suggested the County have a bylaw to concentrate on false alarms. “Homeowners need to be more aware and responsible when it comes to alarms. Some-
“It is not the best use of the resources and we understand that.” times we get a call back that it is a false alarm, but too many times alarms go off without anyone home, or contacting us,” she added. “Some counties have a three strike rule where they are issued a warning before the homeowner is ticketed. I want the County to be aware because it is a lot of false calls. Sometimes we have so many that we don’t respond to all of them.” The detachment is not staffed to handle that many non emergencies. “It is not the best use of resources and we understand that,” said Reeve Don Gregorwich. “I’m glad you brought this to our attention.” Councillors wanted to have more numbers to examine.
“Are most of the alarms resident carelessness and error codes?,” asked councillor Doug Lyseng. “I think we have something in our bylaws and we need to see if something fits this concern.” He was informed that about 95 per cent are operator carelessness, or alarm company error. “We could look at our bylaws and see if we can do anything to reduce those calls. It is eating up your resources,” said Cpl. Philipp. County administrator Paul King said a bylaw would have to be county wide, so the Bashaw RCMP would have to be included in the discussions. School programs The RCMP are with-
out a trained DARE officer at the moment. County Protective Services manager Mike Kuzio is currently the DARE instructor for schools within the county. “We want to have our presence in the schools,” said Cpl. Philipp. It takes about 10 weeks to complete the training course, so we need to examine how we can still provide DARE instruction.” DARE instruction is important to teach students about social media and cyber bullying. “The students like us to be in schools. Some of the lessons are more important than others, but we have to teach the whole program because the students get credit for it,” explained officer Kuzio. In the past couple of years, the County instructor handled the Hay Lakes and Bawlf schools and the RCMP taught the course at New Norway and Round Hill. Council agreed to discuss the issue during the budget process.

immigrating to Canada from Ireland in the early 1900s, demonstrates her ability to craft songs that are touching, poignant, and lyrically rich. Her arrangements are detailed and atmospheric and her talents as a multi-instrumentalist are featured in spades. The album also features some of Canada’s finest musicians, including John Reischman, Ivan Rosenberg, Joe Phillips, Christine Hanson, Jeremiah McDade and more. Fridhem Baptist Church is a sacred site dating back to the late 1800s when Swedish settlers arrived south of already existing Duhamel (also known as Laboucane Metis Settlement) on the Battle
River in what was then the Northwest Territories. At the time, Wetaskiwin was the regional centre for trade and the point of embarkation for people who were coming to farm in the surrounding areas. At first the new settlers gathered in homes for worship. Due to hardship and epidemic, several newcomers died in the early days, resulting in the creation of the Fridhem cemetery as one of the earliest ecumenical burial places in the area. Although the present church was built in 1926, the broader geographical reach of the early settlers is an important part of the overall history. In the summer of July, 2000, the 100th anniversary of the

worship community was honoured with a guided tour of the places where the early settlers had lived. Since the formation of the Friends of Fridhem Society in 1992, focus has been on identifying and protecting the flora and fauna of the site and on maintaining and restoring the church. Today, Fridhem Baptist Church is a registered Municipal Historic Resource of Camrose County and the Province of Alberta. Fridhem Church may be found by travelling 30 minutes south of Camrose on Highway 13 to Ferintosh. At gravel pit corner turn east. You will find the church 3.5 miles down Range Road 440 on the south side.

Big Valley Jamboree adds to 2015 lineup Big Valley Jamboree has announced the addition of Lady Antebellum, Reba, Brad Paisley, The Band Perry, Justin Moore, Corb Lund and Hurtin’ Albertans, and Lee Brice to its 2015 lineup. Lady Antebellum will flexing the muscles earned from stacking awards and platinum records. The trio will be ready to play some real country-rock. With twenty-six albums under her belt and an active career in country music since 1975, Reba is one of country’s greatest selling artists of all time. Along with her music she’s proven herself as an accomplished actress. Brad Paisley is the icon of popular country with more than a little mud on his tires. With over 12 million albums sold, he represents the highest caliber of music. The down-to-earth honesty that got him there has always been a mainstay in his work. The Band Perry has become one of the biggest groups in modern country. The star-destined siblings have cultivated their own boot-stomping brand of southern country-rock. Justin Moore will be taking his place under the spotlight to show BVJ fans and country connoisseurs what a straightforward country boy can do. His humble style and attitude reflect the roots of country music, though his appeal is anything but old-fashioned. Corb Lund and Hurtin’ Albertans have a long and dynamic musical history. Lund brings a rock-androll attitude to the classic country style, creating something entirely new and undeniably Albertan. Lee Brice is an undeniably skilled songwriter who holds the country Billboard record for longest time on the charts, and though he’s only released three albums he’s shown more diversity and capability in his craft than most artists achieve over the course of their entire careers. More information on the entertainers may be obtained by going to Big ValleyJamboree.com. The 2015 Big Valley Jamboree goes from July 30 to August 2, 2015. To order tickets visit www. Support Silent Santa Submitted by the Camrose Kinette Club
The thought on the minds of many people this time of year is shopping. However, families know that buying Christmas gifts for even their own children will be a struggle. And for over 50 years, the Camrose Kinette Club has been making Christmas just a little bit merrier for those in need. The club of nine women is busy collecting toys throughout the community from various businesses, organizations and individuals. The toys are then housed, this year at Duggan Mall, and packed according to age and gender. “The community is so very generous with the donations of toys, mittens, games and even cash. However, we are always looking for increased donations for teenagers that land on the list,” said club member Amanda Dyer. Some gift ideas for teens include pocketbooks, hand held games, family games, a movie rental, gift cards, swimming passes, Kodiaks tickets, movie passes, hair sets, and sporting equipment like baseball gloves and balls. Other ideas include pajamas, MP3 players, iTunes gift cards movies and art sets. Cash donations are always accepted and can be dropped off at Shuman Insurance in downtown Camrose. Please note that the club cannot issue tax receipts as it is not a registered charity. The donation boxes are being set out throughout the city. Locations include Superstore, the Post Office, Shuman Insurance and Duggan Mall. The deadline for donations is Dec. 10 as packing for the club begins Dec. 13. The toy hampers are then partnered with the food hampers and delivered to families just in time to celebrate Christmas. If you have any questions regarding Silent Santa please call Amanda Dyer at 780-679-2439, or Kathy Schwab at 780-672-8327.

Voluntary Check Stop By Dan Jensen
The Camrose Police Service and Camrose RCMP will be teaming up this Saturday to conduct their eighth annual Voluntary Check Stop. Officers will be stopping drivers on the 48 Avenue service road in front of Camrose Registry from noon until 4 p.m. to ask if they have any donations for the Camrose Kinette Club’s Silent Santa Program, Camrose Neighbor Aid Center Food Bank or Camrose and District Victim Services. “We’re asking people to give a gift to help families in our community have a safer and happy holiday season,” said Camrose Police Service Const. Matthew Wilton. “They’ll be able to make a donation without ever having to get out of their vehicle.” Tax deductible receipts will be provided to those who make monetary contributions of $25 or greater to Camrose and District Victim Services. The Charity Check Stop has proven to be one of the most successful fundraisers of the Christmas season. The 2013 event raised $8,842.94 for Victim Services, 917 toys and $1,910 in cash and gift-card donations for Silent Santa, and over 2,000 lbs. of food and $7,110 in cash and cheques for the Food Bank. There was also a $25 donation for Mothers Against Drunk Driving and a $50 donation for the Camrose Women’s Shelter. Suggested donations for Camrose Neighbor Aid Center Food Bank include lunch items for kids, canned green veggies, fish, meat, stew, chili or soup, sugar, peanut butter, baby food with meat, and juice. Suggested donations for the Camrose Kinettes Club’s Silent Santa program include board and handheld games, books, sporting goods and gift certificates. Gifts for older children are usually the ones that are most required. Anyone who is not going to be in Camrose on Saturday may drop off their toy and food donations beforehand at Camrose Registry. Cash and cheques may be taken to the Camrose Police Service. Camrose Police Service and Camrose RCMP see the Voluntary Charity Check Stop as a good way to meet and greet the citizens of Camrose and area, to thank them for the support during the course of the year, and to help three worthy causes. “We’re always happy for any donations we receive,” said Const. Wilton. “Every year it seems to get bigger and better.”

Rural Crime Watch holds organizational meeting By Dan Jensen
The newly-formed Battle River Rural Crime Watch Society is turning to the Internet and facebook in its ongoing fight against crime in Camrose County. “We are excited about the new society because it uses social media to distribute the information that people want,” said Crime Watch Society Bill Mcghie at the organization’s organizational meeting Nov. 25. “The new technology means that the sharing of information can be almost instantaneous.” The Battle River Rural Crime Watch Society’s main objectives are to assist law enforcement agencies (Bashaw RCMP, Camrose RCMP and Camrose County Protective Services) with the execution of their duties in general, and in particular to provide organizational, financial and other assistance to the agencies for the safety of the public and the preservation of property. “We are their extra eyes and ears,” said Rural Crime Watch Society president Rob Fehr. “The small seemingly insignificant things can turn into something big with the sharing of information.” Camrose RCMP Const. Trent Kenyon said while
flyers and newspapers have worked well in the past to spread news about crimes, the Society wanted to go a step further. “What we are doing with the new organization is adding to what we have.” The Society will be taking weekly crime reports from the Camrose and Bashaw RCMP and posting them on its website (brrcws. com). “The website is helpful,” said Const. Kenyon, “because it makes people aware of what is happening around them. If you read on the website for example that there were three break and enters and each of them involved a certain truck you will be able to keep a look out for that truck.” The Society will also be printing hard copies of the reports and taking them to post offices, coffee shops and other areas where people tend to congregate. “The people who do not have computers need to know as well what is going on,” said Const. Kenyon. A more immediate form of communication will be the Society’s facebook page. “People who notice that drug activities is going on in a certain area can post that to facebook knowing that it will be seen by police and everyone else who has a smartphone,” said Const. Kenyon. “It is that
immediate transfer of information that can help solve crimes.” Along with having a place for police reports, the Society web page will have a place where people can post anonymous blogs about some of the things they have observed. “Let’s say there is drug activity going on in a skatepark,” said Const. Kenyon. “People will be able to post that information on the website’s blog space and maybe encourage others who live close to that skatepark to keep an eye on what is happening there. The information will also let parents of kids who use the skatepark know that there is an issue so that they can talk to their kids about staying away from drugs.” “If they do that they might find out from their kids who exactly is doing the dealing.” The Society is hoping to have a tech saavy volunteer update the website and monitor the blogs so that if activity in an area seems to be picking up he or she can report that (activity) to police. “If I get the information I can call up someone I know who lives close by and ask if he can write down the licence plate numbers,” said Const. Kenyon. “Once he reports those back to me I can run them through the system and maybe come up with a person who is responsible for the problems.”
Ron Pilger, associate publisher at The Camrose Booster, said the key to the website’s success is making sure that all the information is fresh. “If you don’t keep information fresh it quickly turns into outdated reading, common at waiting rooms. Pilger added that for the purposes of protection, people who post blogs on the website should not be using names of people they believe may be responsible for crime. He said bloggers must be willing to sign their names to their posts. Bashaw RCMP officer Chuck Gagne said the Society website is a great way to connect rural residents with the police. “Every little bit of information we receive leads to something,” he said. “If this leads to a different way for people to get in touch with us in a way that they feel comfortable then I am all for it. I think it will be very useful.” The new Battle River Rural Crime Watch Society has received strong support from local business, including Ember Resources, which is happy to see the community-based approach to fighting crime. “The management team believes strongly in assisting organizations like this,” said Ember rep-
resentative Stephanie Fraser, adding that everyone is affected by crime in some form. “We believe we have a responsibility for the safety of families and communities and we are looking forward to working with the RCMP and Camrose County Protective Services.” The Battle River Rural Crime Watch Society is seeking one director from each of the seven electoral divisions within Camrose County. Meetings of the Society board are expected to be held four times a year. “Joning the society is valuable because you are helping the community and your neighbours,” said Const. Kenyon. “It is crucial for anyone who lives in Camrose County and wants to protect property, reduce crime or help save their mailboxes to help us out.” Fehr said that the Battle River Rural Crime Watch Society has a lot of resources at its fingertips that it can access to be successful and grow. “There have been people here who have been with the organization (Bashaw Crime Watch) from day one. We are going to have challenges but you see that wherever you go. We have to try to make a dent in the amount of criminal activity that is out there.”

BRSD wraps up survey Diane Hutchinson, Communications, BRSD
Thanks to the input of more than 860 people, members of the Battle River School Division Board of Trustees believe they have a good sense of what qualities and skills stakeholders feel it’s important for the next Superintendent of Schools to possess. During the month of October, BRSD offered staff, parents and community members the opportunity to share their ideas through an online survey and then prioritize which characteristics were most important to them. At their November 13 meeting, Trustees received a summary report of the survey findings. A summary report is available on the BRSD website. The BRSD Board of Trustees intends to use the information provided through the survey to assist them in short listing potential candidates for the position of Superintendent of Schools, as well as developing interview questions.
The Board hopes to have a new Superintendent of Schools in place early in the new year. Healthy School Symposium The Board of Trustees heard from Alberta Health Services Healthy Schools Liaison Carol Breitkreutz about the great work that’s being done in BRSD to promote emotional, physical and nutritional health. The school division has received a $50,000 grant, supplemented by an additional $10,000 from the Board, to increase the training and knowledge of school health champions, build school health teams and fund a variety of schoolbased activities related to healthy lifestyles. Bashaw School Update The Board has seen a draft site plan and proposed classroom plan for the new Bashaw School. Plans are expected to be finalized soon and the project will move into the next phase. The project was approved with a gymnasium (based on the formula used
by Alberta Infrastructure), which is not quite regulation size and would prohibit the school from hosting provincial sport tournaments. The community has begun a fundraising campaign, with the intent of bringing in at least $400,000 to increase the gymnasium size. Both Camrose County and the Town of Bashaw have agreed to “backstop” the community effort. Expanding the Early Learning Program The Board of Trustees voted to focus on possible Early Learning Program expansion within the City of Camrose, with a view to making pre-school age programming available at a variety of Camrose school sites. The school division will also continue to work with existing private preschool programs throughout the rural communities, to ensure higher risk children are receiving the sup-
port they need to be ready for school. BRSD’s Colony students are doing well The Board reviewed Achievement Results for Colony School students and learned that BRSD’s nine Hutterite Colony schools are doing very well in comparison to other colony schools across Alberta. BRSD’s Colony School teachers are to be commended for their hard work. It’s Review time Trustees conducted a review of their compensation package, in comparison to other school divisions of comparable size across the province. Trustees will not be making any adjustments to their compensation for this school year, as they do not feel it is appropriate for them to receive any kind of increase when staff has been asked to go without an increase.
The Board also heard from Acting Superintendent Rita Marler that the job descriptions of Superintendents and division leadership team members are currently being reviewed and updated. Seeking school bus drivers A lberta’s booming economy is leading to a shortage in permanent and substitute school bus drivers, both in Battle River School Division and in other school jurisdictions across the province. If you know someone who enjoys children, has an excellent driving record and is available both in the early morning and late afternoon, why not suggest they become a bus driver? BRSD will help with training and licensing. Contact Brenda Johnson, Director of Transportation, at 780672-6131.

By Dan Jensen Camrose City council has asked City administration to take a look at ways of improving the safety of pedestrians at the intersection of 48 Street and 49 Avenue. “I’d like to see if we could get vehicles to park 20 feet away from the intersection rather than 10 feet as it is now,” said Councillor Bill Sears Nov. 17. “That would make people more visible on the street.” A solution that has been suggested by visually and hearing impaired resident Stephanie McMahon is the installation of traffic lights with audible signals McMahon noted in an October letter to council in that she is very uncomfortable crossing 48 Street to and from work every day. “I am very cautious but I know I can’t rely on everyone else to be as well,” said McMahon. “Also on roads where there is street parking it can be difficult to see past the vehicle if it is parked close to the corner without venturing out a couple of steps to see if anyone’s coming, and on a busy intersection like that one it increases the danger of an accident.” McMahon said she experienced a close call when she was headed home from work and stopped at the intersection. “A car was coming and slowed down, and I was positive it had stopped, so I started to cross until I saw the car edge forward. I was only a couple of steps out, not in front of the car, and stopped. The car stopped too and I waited a moment to see if it would go. It didn’t so I started to walk again and the car edged forward again. I then backed up and waited for it to go. “I was positive it stopped at the time and to this day I’m almost 100 per cent sure it did. I know without a shred of doubt though that at the very least it slowed down to a crawl. I have enough vision to tell that. On that particular instance it was likely someone being a jerk, which I will say is very rare, but with regulated traffic I’d feel better knowing for sure if I did have the right of way.” City general manager of infrastructure and planning Wayne Franklin told council that the amount of traffic on the street does not warrant traffic signals, which could cost in the neighbourhood of $150,000. “Typically we would need 1,200 to 1,600 vehicles an hour and somewhere in the vicinity of 60 pedestrians. Right now this intersection has about 400 vehicles an hour and about 15 pedestrians, so it is about three or four times lower than what would typically be required. There are other intersections in the city that are considerably higher than that.” Franklin said drivers tend to get immune to signals when they are unwarranted. “If we tell them to stop somewhere and they don’t see the need for that, they eventually start ignoring the signals.” City engineer Jeremy Enarson told council that moving parked vehicles further away from the intersection would cause problems with those who operate businesses along the street. “Typically with a ban like this we hear from property owners and the negative impact it has on them,” he said.

Chester Ronning students learn about Type 1 Diabetes By Murray Green
Chester Ronning School, Holden School and the Battle River School Division participated in a Blue Day to learn more about Type 1 (DM) diabetes mellitus on Nov. 14. The date was selected because it is also World Diabetes Day around the world. Chester Ronning School students wore blue and sported a blue circle on their fingers to show support. A short video of Sydney’s story was shared that talked about diabetes. “We challenged all schools and members of the BRSD community to help bring awareness to Type 1 diabetes and to educate themselves and others on how devastating and daily this disease is to children and families,” said Marie Olson, a Grade 3 teacher at Chester Ronning School. “These children go from perfectly healthy to their pancreas shutting down over a short period of days.” The universal symbol for diabetes is a blue circle, which represents the thousands of finger pricks these children have to endure all their lives. “My granddaughter was diagnosed at age three
Murray Green, Camrose Booster Chester Ronning School Grade 3 students from left to right, Till Niehoff, Andrew Ruttig, Teagen Drisdelle, Callie McFarland, Brea Kaczmarski and Jacob Lewsaw wear blue printed circles on their fingers to honour Type 1 diabetes children on Nov. 14. McFarlane was diagnosed at age three and checks her levels about eight times a day.
(she is now seven) has had over 15,000 finger ‘pokes’ to monitor her blood glucose levels. People don’t realized the difference between diabetes and Type 1. Someone could fall a sleep and go into coma in a matter of 10 minutes,” said Olson. “We are counting on students and parents to help raise awareness by
showing the Type 1 community that you are standing behind them in the fight for a cure. To help raise awareness I asked students to wear blue and draw a circle on their index finger showing you stick it to diabetes. “This cause became extremely important to me at Christmas 2010 when
Augustana climbing wall offers a total body workout By Eric Steele
Camrosians are finding a way to satisfy their climbing urges at the Augustana Climbing Wall. The community surrounding the wall is quite vibrant as students, staff and community members come out for leisure recreation, endurance training, birthday parties, challenges and lots more. As the climbing wall gears up for more events and activities, here are a couple things people should know about the facility and the sport. The climbing wall consists of a 23-foot high wall that has multiple features, including an incline, overhang, and spine. The facility is geared towards top-roping (where climbers are secured to a rope and harness from above) and bouldering (where climbers are unsecured but may only climb to a maximum of nine feet and are protected by crash mats). The facility provides all the equipment needed to climb, including shoes, harnesses and chalk. Sport climbing is accessible to a wide range of people of physical ability and can benefit a person mentally, physically and socially. Physically, wall climbing is a great total body workout as a person works most of his or her muscles from fingers and hands when he or she grabs a hold, to abs and core

when lifting the legs. In addition, climbing is a low impact aerobic workout that develops lean endurance muscles, a better sense of balance and a strong core that leads to a less injury prone body. Wall climbing is a mental activity as it’s like working a puzzle. Problem solving abilities are developed as a climber must strategize and plan when completing a challenging route (a route being when a climber may only use certain handholds and grips as designated by colored tape). Goal setting is a common development as climbers build determination and desire to complete more difficult routes. Though climbing is seen as an independent sport, a climber is rarely alone as people climb with their friends, family, and colleagues. Trust and relationships develop quickly as climbers spot each
other, offer advice and celebrate achievements. The staff at the climbing wall are willing and able to teach new climbers while ensuring safety at the wall. Each staff member is trained in climbing wall instruction, safety and CPR and first aid. Many of the staff are student leaders who have led and organized birthday parties, community lessons and events at the climbing wall. The climbing wall is open Sunday from 6 to 10 p.m. and Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7 to 10 p.m. The facility is located at the Augustana gymnasium at 4901-46 Avenue and can be accessed through the forum near the cafe, or via the main gym entrance way. Email augclimb@ualberta.ca for more details and follow the climbing wall on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram @ AUGrec.
my then three-year-old grand-daughter, Lizzie, was admitted to the hospital, nearly comatose and so very ill for many days. These children look so healthy that it is hard to believe they can go from a low to a coma in such a short time. What I knew then about diabetes was so little and so misinformed
that I have signed up to be an advocate and educator about this disease whenever and where ever I can.” Olson believes there needs to be a standard of care for these students in all schools across Alberta including having a glucacon (glucose injection needle) in all schools with training for staff.
Sorenson promises balanced budget The Honourable Kevin Sorenson, Minister of State (Finance) and Member of Parliament for Crowfoot, welcomed the Harper government’s release of the annual Update of Economic and Fiscal Projections, which confirms that the Government remains on track for a balanced budget in 2015, with an expected surplus of $1.9 billion. “Our government remains committed to what matters most to Canadians: jobs, growth, and long-term prosperity. Canada has come a long way however; the global economy remains fragile. We continue to take steps to put more money back into the pockets of Canadian families,” said Minister Sorenson. “We are fulfilling the 2011 Election campaign promises we made. We are ensuring that Canada’s total government debt continues to decline and remains the lowest of any G-7 country. In addition to growing the size of the Canadian economy, the Government will reduce the size of the accumulated federal debt with unused annual contingency funds.” The Conservative government has recently announced targeted tax relief for Canadian families, including: The new Family Tax Cut, allowing a higher-income spouse to transfer up to $50,000 of taxable income to a spouse in a lower tax bracket. This tax credit will provide tax relief – capped at $2,000 – for couples with children under the age of 18. An increase in the Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) for children under the age of six. As of January 1st, 2015, parents will receive benefits of $160 per month for each child under the age of six (up from $100 a month). An expansion of the UCCB to children six through seventeen. As of January 1st, 2015, parents will receive a benefit of $60 per month for children aged six through seventeen. An increase in the Child Care Expense Deduction dollar limits by $1,000, effective for the 2015 tax year. “The latest tax cuts and benefits represent close to $27 billion back in the pockets of families over this year and the next five years. Every Canadian family with children under the age of 18 will have more money in their pockets because of these tax cuts and benefits,” concluded Minister Sorenson.

It’s another start to a new year of 4-H and wow, has it beenDate: great! Coal Lake Lighthorse started the year with a meet10-2-2014 4:02 PM ing on October 3 with seven members. At the meeting we disArtist: OPTIC PREPRESS Typesetting: Optic Nerve cussed job positions and what will be happening in the next This advertisement prepared by PUBLICIS few months in the 4-H world. On October 18, most of our club went down to theYELLOW, Lakedell Arena and had a Mini Lighthorse NAA A500 CYAN, MAGENTA, BLACK Clinic where we learned a lot of new things about horses and 4-H events. We had Geneva Rodin, a 4-H member, come out to show us some things about her job as an equine dentist. She showed us all of the tools she uses and told us exactly how they worked. To end her presentation, she allowed anyone who wanted to to feel inside the horse’s mouth and see if they could find where the horse needed her teeth to be done. May I just say, that was quite the new experience for all of those who tried it out! After that we had a judge come out as show us what they look for in a trail class. A trail class is a class where there are a lot of obstacles set up everywhere and you have to try and get your horse to go through them in the most efficient and controlled way possible. Some of the obstacles in this course were a bridge, a gate, and a box that you need to turn around in. Which I know may sound simple, but sometimes horses can be more unpredictable than you think. When that clinic finished, we had lunch and they walked us through how to use our new diaries, which was really helpful. And with that we ended the day and it was a lot of fun! We had two rides this month, one on Oct. 19, where we learned lead changes and different patterns. Our other ride was on the 26th. Our usual trainer was sick so we had some of the parents lead us. It was a lot of fun and we learned lots about balance and different stretches we can do in the saddle. Overall it has been a fantastic month and I can’t wait to see what else will happen in this 4-H year!

Everyone reads The Booster Chris Cooper-Slipper is one of the brightest aviation minds in North America. He is Vice-President, Special Projects, at Field Aviation, a company credited with developing revolutionary technology to make ordinary aircraft extraordinary. He is a Director of Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame and recently visited Wetaskiwin and Camrose for a meeting of the Board. While here he picked up a copy of The Booster. He took the home team paper with him as he headed to Orlando to attend the largest business and general aviation trade show in the world! While there he captured this photo. Chris will receive a $10.00 cheque for this week’s entry. Do you enjoy reading The Camrose Booster? Show us with a picture! Drop off, mail or email a photo of you reading your Booster while vacationing, along with a brief explanation. Be sure your travel destination can be identified by a sign or landmark. Or, have someone take your photo while you’re enjoying the home team paper in an unlikely situation. Throughout the year, these photos will be published in The Camrose Booster. A $10.00 cash prize will be paid to you if your entry is published. A $50.00 grand prize will be awarded each January for the best entry submitted in the previous calendar year, so be sure and include your mailing address with your entry. Use your creativity and send us your photo! 4925-48 Street, Camrose Phone 780-672-3142 Email: ads@camrosebooster.com
R&D Hot Tub owners Russ and Doneal Greipl. By Dan Jensen
R&D Hot Tubs is once again asking for the help of Camrose and area residents in filling a hot tub for the food bank. R&D will be taking donations of non-perishable items between now at 5 p.m. Dec. 23. “Our goal is to completely fill a seven by seven foot hot tub,” said R&D Hot Tubs owner Doneal Greipl. R&D Hot Tubs’ 2013 Fill a Hot Tub for the Food Bank was a tremendous successs. “We received a phenomenal response from area residents,” said Doneal. “We took three or four vans full of food to the food bank and afterwards presented them with a cheque for $500. R&D Hot Tubs has a strong history of giving back to the community since opening is doors in 2008. Organizations that have benefitted from its support include Camrose Friends of STARS, Centra Cam Vocational Training Association and the Augustana Students’ Association (Rocky Road Ice Cream Fantasy). “We feel it is important to support the community that supports us,” said Doneal. “We consider ourselves fortunate to be living in such a giving and caring community.” R&D Hot Tubs is located at 3843F-44 Avenue, Camrose. Hours of operation are Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Further details on the Fill a Hot Tub program may be obtained by calling 780-679-4003.

Camrose City council approved a five per cent increase in the airport hangar lot lease rate Nov. 17. The new rate for 2015 will be $1.433 per square metre. City director of engineering Jeremy Enarson told council the revenues realized from the new rates will help offset increasing operational costs at the airport, which are expected to increase by approximately 2.25 per cent over the 2014 budgeted amount, as well as reduce the operational subsidy of the airport by the City at large. “We want to cover off the (operational) costs as well as eat a little bit further into the municipal subsidy,” said Enarson. “We are essentially trying to claw back a reasonable amount of the subsidy going to the airport.” Enarson noted that approximately 50 per cent of the airport’s operations are covered by the City. “In the 2014 operational budget, airport specific revenues were anticipated to cover approximately $163,000 of the total $314,000 expenses related to the operation of the airport,” he said. The Camrose Airport Commission felt a five per cent increase in the lease rates was too high and recommended that council increase the lot lease rates to $1.395 per square metre, an increase of 2.25 per cent over 2014 rates. City lease rates for airport hangar lots range from $600 to $700 per year for smaller lots to in excess of $2,000 per year for the larger ones. “Generally there is an annual increase,” said Enarson. “In the last eight to 10 years it has typically been about five per cent per year. There was one year when there was a zero per cent increase, but in the year following that we had to basically increase it (the rate) by seven and a half per cent.” Councillor Wayne Throndson said the lot lease rate effectively translates into 14 cents per square foot. “In my world we base rental charges on square feet not square metres. At 14 cents per square foot I think they (hangar owners) are getting a pretty good deal.” Council agreed to keep the existing markup at municipally-sourced aviation fuel at 23 per cent, with five per cent of that to be placed into aviation fuel facility reserves, and 18 per cent to offset the operations of the airport. Fill the air with your warm wishes during this happy Holiday season People spend a good amount of time and money selecting gifts for their loved ones, taking special care to suit the needs of the individual. The same amount of care should be given when thanking those who have been so gracious. Any form of thanks is always appreciated, but making someone feel as though they have made
it a smart and meaningful purchase is a gift in itself. Instead of hastily choosing a package of thank you cards, pick a card for each individual, having your thank you come truly from the heart. Have pictures taken of each of you unwrapping your gifts. In the thank you card, enclose a photograph of the
person’s gift being opened, worn or displayed. Those who have access to equipment for videorecording the festivities may opt for an elaborate thank you. A mini-movie of gift unwrapping time, plus on-camera reactions will absolutely thrill the gift giver. How about a personal thank you for those who live
in your vicinity? Taking the time to thank someone in person and expressing how much you are enjoying the gift will make that person feel that his or her gift to you really meant something special. If time allows, a gettogether for everyone to whom you want to say thank you is a unique and fun way of showing your gratitude.
Children play an important role in thanking people also. When a child creates his or her own very special thank you, it not only pleases the gift giver, but it directly shows the child how important (and fun) it can be to thank someone. A drawing of the gift, and perhaps one of the child opening it.

“With the current markup on aviation fuel, administration understands that aviation fuel at the Camrose airport is competitively priced with other airports with some non-local pilots specifically coming through Camrose to refuel their aircraft,” said Enarson. Council set a service penalty of $50 per transaction for expired credit cards or for exceeding credit card limits for the purchase of aviation fuel at the Camrose airport. “With the current aviation fueling system pilots are permitted to dispense aviation fuel prior to making a payment for that fuel,” said Enarson. Administration is proposing enhancements to the aviation fuel facility which should eliminate much of the City’s risk.

Picture yourself sitting on the back deck that overlooks the river valley in your new Zetsen Master Builders home in picturesque Creekview subdivision. Several quality built homes with various options in the attractive area are appealing for families who want to have a community atmosphere near playgrounds and walking trails. Impressive floor plans offer bright kitchens with stunning counter tops, centre islands and plenty of cabinets. Spacious living rooms with fireplaces, vaulted ceilings and open spaces are available. Dining areas are built with extended family in mind for special occasions. Large comfortable master bedrooms are normal with these family-minded homes.
The extra closet room and larger ensuites make living easy. Secondary good sized bedrooms, beautiful bathrooms and laundry rooms are also very appealing. Most basements are left open for the new owners to finish in a style that meets their family needs. Large front attached double garages are standard on most homes to accommodate your vehicles. Garden doors led to the backyard that comes with an attractive deck. Each new home includes a one year contractors warranty and new home warranty. Be sure to view several beautiful family homes in Creekview. For a personal tour contact Matthew Mayer at: Central Agencies Inc. 4870-51 Street, Camrose 780-672-4495 or 780-781-7088 cell
