A

Imagine a house overlooking gently sloping pastures encapsulated by the blue ridge mountains and a creek passing through a trout farm bringing life to the base of the highest point in Georgia. The creek winds its way through the mountains and eventually meets low lying farmland where a family has sustained agricultural practices for generations. All these landscapes happen within a five mile radius that I call home. My home was my first introduction into landscape architecture. My childhood gifted me with an innate knowledge of how natural systems are intertwined. This knowledge allows me to find refuge in the uninhibited environments that ground me back to my beginnings. Landscapes created from my mind’s eye shares the respect I have for the environment with others and demonstrates to them what I find to be mindfully restorative. In a broader view, fulfilling human desires and ecological needs to positively influence those around us and those coming after us is what I find most intriguing about landscape architecture. It is the chance to have individuals, communities, and future generations to cherish and grow from something that I have grown in creating with others.

project chimps

Hypothetical redesign for a wedding venue + event space

Found in the decidious forests of the north Georgia mountains, Project Chimps is designed to be a haven for chimpanzees previously used for medical research. In light of the ban of medical research on live chimpanzee, Project Chimps began as a volunteer lead sanctuary for these previously captive chimpanzees. These generous donors and volunteers keep the sanctuary afloat but considering the everyday needs of the volunteers and chimps additonal revenue is required and this the creation of a portion of the site in a wedding venue.

Requested in the design of the venue included a native plant selection, “browse plants that the chimps can eat, reception space, ceremony area, space for the wedding party to use prior to the ceremony, and picturesque photo opportunities.

winding oaks A sustainably based commercial and residential mixed use

The Winding Oaks community is intended to be a residential and public inclusive space, accomodating each type of user as they are carried throughout the spaces. The community also showcases the environments natural processes and uses them to create a space that will span decades.

Based in Athens Ga Brookside Oaks serves as a hypothetical connecting point between downtown Athens and the greater northern area of Clarke county. A naturally occuring pond serves as a the existing focal point of the site as well as a typographical low point. Brookside Oaks has a major highway capping its eastern side, a previously exisitng neighborhood rounding off the northern and western side, and a small shopping outlet to the south.

sandstone gardens A hypothetical resort based in Sedona AZ.

Located within restorative energy vortexes, Sandstone Gardens mimic elements iconic to Sedona Arizona to feed into these rejuvenating properties. Featuring waterfalls that emulate nearby Havasupai Falls, Native American architectural themes, native plantings, and emphasised views to the sanstone rock formations. These are serve to ground guests aesthetically and mentally to the energy hotspots found in Sedona.

Spacial Analysis

The main focus of Sandstone Gardens is preserving the views and healing properties found in Sedona AZ. Canopy and mid-story trees are placed horizontally along the site to subconsciously guide guests eyes towards the views. Dense low shrub plantings serve as spatial buffers around bodies of water and restaurants. The site drops in elevation beginning at the restaurant so that no matter where a guest is located they have the undivided attention of the red rock formations.

kimley-horn & associates Landscape Architecture Intern Raleigh, NC Summer 2019

As an intern, I was given the opportunity to to explore the different factions of design within landscape architecture. While there, I worked on a variety of projects spanning commericial to civic. Throughout the design process, I conducted landscape code research, planting design, and construction implementation and documentation. This gave me the tools to work alongside other engineering departments within the firm and to better understand the dynamics that go into the creation of a built landscape.

At Kimley- Horn, I worked under a team landscape architects, engineers, and marketers. I collaborated with them to create highway extension proposals, planting plans and schedules, code requirement tables, tree surveying, and renderings. I also attended site visits so I could see first hand the construction and implementation process. As a part of their internship program, I was largely left to use my own judgement in the creation of products before redlines were made.

lanier nursery & gardens Flowery Branch, Ga 2017-2019

Lanier Nursery and Gardens presented me with the unique opportunity to work as a free lance landscape designer while continuing to pursue my education. Being the only designer for the nursery, I attained my own clients, set my hours and work load, and preformed all the responsibilies necessary to create a landscape plan.

Design 1

As the only designer for Lanier Nursery and Gardens, I was responsible for organizing and conducting site visits, creating a timeline, making a base map, consulting clients in choosing a plant palette, and being a liason between the nursery and the client. I chose to hand render all of my plans in order to show my plans as artistically as possible. Design 3
