SUBMISSIONS NOW OPEN FOR THE 2017 CCMA SONGWRITERS’ SERIES The CCMA Songwriters’ Series is a longstanding and beloved event of Country Music Week, as it’s the songwriting - and the stories - of country music that truly sets the genre apart from others. Each year, the CCMA solicits submissions from its members who excel at the craft of songwriting and want to share their stories with audiences of both industry and the public during our annual event. The 2017 CCMA Songwriters’ Series, as part of PotashCorp Country Music Week, will feature three sessions this year: Thursday, September 7; Friday, September 8 and Saturday, September 9. Each session will showcase eight (8) artists; four (4) of whom will be selected from submissions received, and four (4) of whom will be decided upon by a CCMA-appointed talent advisory committee made up of impartial individuals within the industry. Submissions received for the 2017 CCMA Songwriters’ Series will be reviewed by an impartial industry-led jury and successful applicants will be notified of their opportunity to showcase as part of the event this spring. NEW MUSIC PAIGE WILLIAMS “AIN’T NO SAINT” Paige Williams is a self-avowed fan of Shania Twain, Faith Hill and Carrie Underwood. With her vivacious sprit and Californian charm, she’s a legitimate candidate to join the ranks of those who’ve inspired her. Like thousands before her, Paige has fought her way through the music business jungle in pursuit of her dream, often encountering obstacles or unexpected dead ends. Undaunted, she’s used her setbacks and obstacles to her advantage, and using these challenges to fuel her songs. An American and Canadian citizen who grew up in California and spent most of her summers in North Battleford Saskatchewan on her family’s farm- she took an unusual leap-into the heart of one of the most competitive arenas in contemporary society- the music business. Paige grew up in an environment loaded with temptation. “I was fortunate to have music as my driving passion,” she says. “I stayed out of trouble by being constantly active. I started writing songs, and playing piano when I was very young. Paige has gone from singing the National Anthem for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Anaheim Ducks to getting her original song, “Welcome to My Life” placed in the independent film, Wake (starring Bijou Phillips and Jane Seymour) and another self-penned tune, “Gone,” placed in May The Best Man Win, (an Indy production starring Rob Riggle of The Daily Show and Horatio Sanz of Saturday Night Live). Her song, “How Did Our Love Change,” was also featured on a Nickelodeon TV show. She also received award consideration as a nominee for Producers’ Choice in the Best Pop Single at the Los Angeles Music Awards and was a contender in the “Single of the Year” category by the prestigious Indie Singer/ Songwriter Association. She also received honorable mention in the 2010 Billboard World Music contest for her original song, “Welcome to My Life.” In Feb-
ruary 2015, her single “Give You Hell” was added to Canadian radio. Paige has recently finished her California Country EP and finally feels like this is the music she has wanted to sing and write all along. Musically, Paige has finally created her own version of what country music sounds like and means to her. Paige’s self-titled EP will be released on Canadian radio and digitally distributed in February 2017.
NEW MUSIC ELOIE RICHARD ‘MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT”
Hailing from St. Stephen, New Brunswick;Eloie Richard is no newcomer to the live music industry. Coming from a family of 10, Eloie’s first foray into the music world started with his family’s band. Eloie recounts “Mom and Dad were always very supportive and proud of all of us; they never ever complained, even when we made so much noise that they couldn’t hear themselves think!” His debut single “Middle Of The Night” was recorded under the watchful eye of Danny Bourgeois.To date, Eloie has shared the stage with Doug Stone,Julian Austin, Chris Cummings, The Good Brothers,Trooper and The Barra MacNeils. You see music is not what he does ... it is what he is.
This self-penned tune is about a couple that just can’t get it right. Eloie says “They have tried and tried, but she has given up. He knows he needs to move on but is having a hard time ending it with her. He is hoping he will have the courage to finally just move on one day and not look back.”
CMA HONORS TRIPLE PLAY AWARD-WINNING SONGWRITERS DURING EIGHTH ANNUAL CMA SONGWRITERS LUNCHEON Twenty of Nashville’s top songwriters were recognized with CMA Triple Play Awards during the Eighth Annual CMA Songwriters Luncheon Wednesday at Marathon Music Works in Nashville. This prestigious trophy is presented to songwriters who pen three No. 1 songs within a 12-month period. The luncheon was hosted by Troy Tomlinson, President and CEO of Sony/ATV Music Nashville and CMA Board member. “Songwriters are often honored for their creativity, and rightly so,” said Tomlinson. “The Triple Play Awards honor not only that creativity inherent in the craft, but also the work ethic it takes to achieve the milestone of three chart-topping songs in 12 months.” Many Triple Play Award recipients were in attendance, including Rhett Akins, Luke Bryan, Rodney Clawson, Copperman, Zach Crowell, Dallas Davidson, Brett Eldredge, Jesse Frasure, Ashley Gorley, Matt Jenkins, Luke Laird, Hillary Lindsey, Shane McAnally, Niko Moon, Shay Mooney, Cole Swindell, and Craig Wiseman. Each winner received a video message from a fellow recipient that played before each Award presentation. Triple Play recipients Zac Brown, Jon Nite, and Carrie Underwood joined in with fellow honorees by submitting special congratulatory video messages. Eldredge, Frasure, Jenkins, Moon, and Mooney are first time Triple Play Awards recipients.
