They have a goal to see the ‘Wake the Giant’ logo represent a positive shift, and a symbol of ever-improving cross cultural relations in Thunder Bay. “We took the opportunity to become a leader for healthy Indigenous and non-indigenous relations ” Bolton explains.

Whether it’s a fundraiser to support a single, or larger ongoing initiative, our focus is to see results.” Equipment World strives to build and nurture those relationships that directly benefit the community.

There are many larger repetitive recipients, to name a few, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, Confederation College, Lakehead University, Wake the Giant Music Festival, Ribfest (in support of Our Kids Count), Coldest Night of The Year, RFDA, and Habitat for Humanity. However, Equipment World also supports many local athletes & sports teams, animal rescues & shelters, food programs, school initiatives, and various community events. The list goes on, and on.

“This year is unique”, says Bolton. “As we enter our 50th year in business we have a goal to donate over $50,000.00. One of our events this year involved a charity BBQ in support of Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay, which occurred on May 25th. We were proud to provide a $10,000.00 donation through our efforts. They do amazing work in our community, and we wanted to support that initiative in a big way.”

Equipment World is extremely thankful for their generous staff and their families, and their willingness to volunteer and assist with charities and initiatives they are involved in.

Although Equipment World spends a significant amount of effort contributing to charity work, not all events hosted are to raise funds for charities. There are certain events put on by the company that are purposed to encourage staff involvement and improve the company morale and TEAMwork. Some event invites are extended to family, friends, work peers, and business associates alike. It has been tradition since the beginning that Equipment World hosts a summer gathering, and Christmas social to encourage staff to get out and have fun together. “It’s about bringing together friends and family to enjoy a fun day, it builds great community among us all.”

No matter which way you turn, there seems to be an Equipment World employee actively involved in a variety of events and associations dedicated to making their communities a better place to live. A common trait that is evident in all they do.

Racing… The thrill of it all.

Ernie Ukrainec, Technical Sales Manager, has worked with Equipment World since 1979 and has contributed to many departments within the company over the years. He has always had a passion for racing, and the need for speed. Ernie who raced in the 80’s and 90’s went on to win the track championships in his class 7 years in a row. He raced at many tracks over the years including the former Riverview Raceway, as well as the dirt racing circuit throughout the Northern USA. Equipment World has always seen importance in supporting their employees in areas of their interest, so this was a perfect opportunity for Equipment World show their support. Ernie Ukrainec carried Equipment Worlds’ logo on his car for over 15 years. This support has continued in recent years as well, with Doug Belanger proudly bearing the Equipment World logo on his 1600 HP Top Fuel drag car, as he clocked many
