The Evolution of Red Lake Operations

By James Russell, Sustainability Manager—Evolution Mining Red Lake Operations

Red Lake Operations is building a team to continue its ongoing journey. The dedicated people who make up the operations today are central to supporting the long-term vision of owner, Evolution Mining, to become a premier global gold producer. Red Lake’s team remain a driving force in Evolution’s success and continues to attract the best people as it grows to ensure it remains a strongly competitive leader in the global resources sector.

Respecting History

Since mineralization was first discovered at Red Lake in the 1870s the remote town, in Northwestern Ontario, has continued to gain significant attention. How the people of one small town have managed to produce over 30 million ounces of gold, providing livelihoods to many, and helped propel the region’s economy, by generating revenue for the province, remains worthy of note. Beyond mineralrich geological formations, it is Red Lake’s people, past and present, who have ensured the ongoing success of the operations in a town that has withstood the passage of time. Now more than ever it’s a values led approach to mining which is creating a positive outlook, with a growing team, and a spirit built on strengthening community connections.

Backed by strong community support, Red Lake Operations has undergone several transformations through changes of ownership overtime. In 2020 Evolution Mining acquired the Red Lake Operation and in 2021 further strategic investment saw new plans aimed to help transform the Campbell, and Cochenour complexes. 2021 saw the acquisition of the Bateman Mine in a separate deal, which was driven by an overall strategy to restore Red Lake into a premier Canadian gold mine.

Evolution has invested heavily in upgrading processing infrastructure, acquired advanced mining equipment, and began an ongoing campaign which remains a focus today: to attract the best people in the industry to Red Lake. In addition, Evolution Mining, an Australian owned and ASX listed company, has recently implemented a series of strategic change management initiatives. It’s business scorecard prioritizes safe operations where people say, do and deliver across the organization to help ensure sustainable growth. Importantly, by integrating sustainability into everything at Red Lake its team continue to strengthen connections with First Nations partners, which forms a central aspect of the operation’s social and community commitments.
