The 24 Hour Butoh Project The 24 Hour Butoh Project will be a brief but intensive program of training and devising of a performance work for 7 – 12 year olds. Those involved will learn skills primarily based in physical work, learning to trust and engage with the physical connection between their imagination and body. The piece itself will be developed over one Saturday and performed that evening.

Improvisation for Actors (14 – 25 years)

The Working Actor (16 – 25 years)

Improvisation for Actors will provide skills in thinking on your feet when performing and creating work. It will develop confidence in dealing with the unexpected occurrences onstage, teaching better problem-solving and instilling a sense of calm in performers.

The Working Actor focuses on the ways in which young and emerging actors can break into the entertainment industry by crafting strong audition techniques to give you the edge on the competition. This workshop will take participants through the process of preparing auditions for acting jobs and training institutions (National Institute of Dramatic Art, Victorian College of the Arts, Western Australian Academy of the Performing Arts).

Voice Over Techniques for Actors (14 – 25 years) Voice Over Techniques for Actors focuses on the voice as the primary tool for an actor and the various ways it can be utilised in recording. Participants will visit recording studios at the ABC and have the opportunity to utilise professional recording equipment to make their own showreels.

Our aim in 2016 is to generate a greater interest in others, not only those we are directly linked to but those we are furthest removed from, in culture, race, age and gender. Our work will challenge the preconceptions we have to lessen discrimination and encourage connections. CYT wants to hear what young people have to say and how they want to say it. We want to connect you with others to have your opinions heard, agreed with and argued with. We want to hear about your passions, your loves, your relationships and furies. We will give you the platform if you bring the ideas!

Sounding Board There will be two Sounding Board meetings in 2016 for artists of any age at CYT to discuss ideas for future theatrical projects amongst a group of like-minded people. Artists can perform examples of work, pitch ideas, read play excerpts, display designs or just come along and listen to other people’s thoughts. This will be a great way to throw around ideas for future work from CYT artists.

YEAR ROUND

By Design Program Looking for a workshop designed especially for you? We’ll design it! We provide specialist workshops in all areas of theatrical production, including performance skills (voice & body), production elements (including lighting, sound, play writing & devising) and performance styles (Suzuki, Butoh & Viewpoints). CYT can also assist with corporate workshops addressing public speaking, team building and communication skills. See our website for details.

SEP TEM BER

The Greek Project The word empathy comes from the Greek word – empátheia. During ancient times, plays were written as teaching tools and as tools through which to develop empathy amongst the audience. The Greek Project will be a tragedy. This performance will be adapted from a classic text, bringing it into a contemporary context while maintaining its essence.

Theatre enables us to find real human connections, which can be quite an achievement in the world today. Our 2016 program is grounded under the umbrella of empathy. In a world that is fast becoming more disconnected from the human, we feel it is the time to address this, through a program that focuses on putting oneself in another’s shoes and developing greater respect and consideration towards those around us.

2016 A PRO G R M

Theatre should be challenging. It should be thought provoking and say something, no matter what age you are, in the audience or on the stage.

Artists aged 15 – 25 years train as theatre technicians, exploring principles of lighting, sound design and stage management within a 20-week program. This will form the basis of a new Tech Team, who will go on to engage in a series of projects with CYT throughout the year.
