2009 – 2011 Campaign • The current Daffodil Day campaign is about inclusiveness. • 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer by the time they are 85 • Shift focus from ‘what you get’ to ‘the cause you are giving to’. • Allow people who wish to give more to do so. • Together we can make a difference!

How you get it… • Merchandise, equipment and daffodils for the day will be delivered to your house or the site • Your Cancer Council office will advise of any stock to be delivered directly to your site
How it works‌
Before Daffodil Day • Familiarise yourself with your site • Locate your local NAB branch (our banking sponsor) • Review your Onsite Booklet and Site Information Sheet • Learn about Cancer Council and Daffodil Day
On the Day! Onsite BookletYour Bible for the day!
You will receive 2 very important documents before Daffodil Day‌
1.Site information sheet This is a snapshot of everything you need to know for the day and includes details on merchandise delivery, volunteers, special instructions etc
2. Onsite Booklet This is your bible for the dayPlease review this carefully before Daffodil Day as it contains a lot of important information for the day. This must be returned to CC after Daffodil Day • We’re now going to take you through the different areas these documents cover…
Volunteers • List of your volunteers approx 1-2 weeks prior • Call your volunteers • Volunteer ID Stickers- New, easy process! Simply record the ID number listed on the sticker you give to your volunteer on the Site Information sheet • Non-registered volunteersPlease register anyone not on your list with your local Cancer Council
Floats • Please provide a small float for your stall • $40-$60 is the recommended float size in small denominations • Reimburse the person who has provided the float from the money raised- Sign float in and out in your Onsite booklet
OH&S- Manual Handling • Use your hands and not just your fingers to get a good grip on the load • Hold load close to your body • Place your feet shoulder width apart for good balance • Bend at your knees and not at your waist to maintain your centre of balance and to utilise the strong leg muscles to do the lifting • Try to keep the load between your knees and shoulders • Use smooth movements • Pivot with your feet instead of twisting your back
Good Manual Handling
Safety Tips o
Avoid performing the same lifting task repeatedly

Take micro-breaks, stretch, and vary your activity
o
Avoid awkward work postures such as bending and twisting
o
Where possible, avoid lifting and carrying heavy or awkward objects. Use trolleys where possible
o
Use wheel trolleys to unload goods from vehicles
o
Ensure adequate rest breaks and variety of tasks
OH&S- Incidents/Accidents • Mop up any spillages • Try and keep your area clean & tidy • Report any Accidents or Incidents and record in the Onsite Booklet • Call 000 for serious accidents
Banking Processes
Cash Handling • Onsite Booklet has instructions • Bank funds at your nearest NAB branch • Do Not Count Money! • All bank bags provided to you must be either banked or returned to Cancer Council • Bank all money by the end of the day
Banking Funds • Who Banks the money? - A plain clothed Team Leader or trusted volunteer • Before you go: - Remove your Daffodil Day T-shirt - Go to the bank in pairs, NOT alone - Put the money in a sturdy back-pack - Do NOT count the money! NAB will do this for you
Making the most of your Site
How to set up your Daffodil Day site! • Line up each item in neat rows • Arrange the stock roughly in price order • Keep remaining stock sorted into each product type under the table • Use posters to help draw attention. • Don’t forget to smile and engage potential customers!
Selling Tips • Get Loud! Spruik and let everyone know it’s Daffodil Day • Be Seen! Get dressed up on the day in funny hats, wigs and any other yellow paraphernalia you can find. • Have Fun! Feel proud that you are making a difference and raising funds for a truly great cause. Enjoy the day! • Be in-the-know! Having a general understanding about Cancer Council & Daffodil Day will be a great help on the day.
Trouble-shooting What to do when: • Your site is out of stock– call your regional office to see if you can get some more stock • There is a theft-Hand over the money without question. Do not put yourself in any danger. Call 000 when it is safe to do so. • There is an accident- record them in the Onsite Booklet and call your local office if you require any assistance. If serious, call 000. • Wet weather conditions- Do be prepared though in case of rain, take an umbrella or poncho. • Someone has a question about cancer– do encourage them to call our helpline 13 11 20
End of Daffodil Day • Clear up any rubbish around your site • Return all bank bags, merchandise and any other equipment such as tables, T-shirts and tablecloths to Cancer Council • Ensure you have banked all funds • Complete the Team Leader Evaluation in your onsite booklet • Return Onsite Booklet
