90 percent of mask rule violators in Badung regency are foreigners: official

It appears that nothing much has changed when it comes to foreigners choosing not to wear masks when out and about in Badung regency, as authorities say they still make up the majority of mask rule violators in the region. “Foreign nationals who violate [the mandatory mask rule] still dominate. Just based on violations that we gave sanctions to, 90 percent were foreigners, the remaining 10 percent were Indonesians,” I Gusti Agung

Ketut Suryanegara, who heads the Public Order agency (Satpol PP) in Badung, said. In the three phases of the Enforcement of Restrictions on Public Activities (PPKM) so far, the first of which was imposed on Jan. 11, Suryanegara said a total of 359 people have been subject to sanctions for violating the mask rule, 323 of whom were foreign nationals. In January, Suryanegara said 80 percent of 150 mask rule violators caught in Badung were foreigners. “It seems like they don’t believe there’s a pandemic,” Suryanegara said, adding that they’ve been relaying data of these foreigners to immigration, and sent out notices to their respective embassies or consulates. “However, it just seems like they basically don’t believe in health protocols, and every day we still find foreign nationals disobeying them.” (coconuts.co)

Teenage girl in NTT faces life imprisonment for alleged murder of her rapist A 15-year-old girl in Timor Tengah Selatan, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has been named a suspect for the alleged murder of a 48-year-old man. The teenage suspect told authorities she had acted in self-defense because the victim, who had raped her before, attempted to rape her again recently. The suspect, identified by her initials MS, and the victim, identified as NB, are reportedly cousins, with police saying that the latter had raped her at least once since May last year. MS told authorities that NB raped her last week, but when he tried to rape her

again for the second time that day, MS brandished her knife and killed NB. Police were then alerted to the incident after his dead body was found.

take into consideration her status as a minor and the possibility that MS had been coerced into the relationship with a much older man.

Andre Librian, Chief of Timor Tengah Selatan precinct, said that MS was named as a suspect in the case because she had brought a knife when meeting with NB, and after considering that they have had “intimate relations” prior to the incident last week.

“Even if this is viewed as an act to protect herself, let the court decide,” Andre said.

Though police said that MS was not detained because she was underage and is instead with the local social agency, authorities did not appear to

MS was charged with articles under Indonesia’s criminal code, including that on premeditated murder which carries a maximum sentence of lifetime imprisonment. (coconuts.co)
