Bali needs 3.3 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to reach inoculation target percent of its population of 4.32 million.
Bali still needs a shipment of around 3.3 million COVID-19 vaccine doses in order to be able to inoculate two-thirds of its population, the governor said, as official case numbers show a decreasing trend in recent weeks. Nearly 1.65 million people in Bali have received their first vaccine dose as of June 3, data from Indonesia’s Health Ministry shows, while around 646,000 have gotten their second jab by this point. Governor Wayan Koster said that the province has received shipments of about 2.7 million doses so far, and thus requires around 3.3 million more to reach its target of vaccinating at least 70
Bali started its mass vaccination program in mid-January, with the initial aim to wrap things up by June 30. At the rate things are going, Koster is reportedly extending the date to July at the latest. In March, Indonesia signaled the possibility of opening to foreign tourism by the middle of this year, and government efforts still appear to focus on sticking to this timeline. However, there has been more emphasis lately on its Work From Bali initiative, which is still being hashed out at the official level and may be realized by the third quarter of this year. Though numbers from the provincial government in Bali suggest a downtrend of COVID-19 cases and a generally hopeful outlook in terms of fatality and recovery rates, an exclusive report from Reuters published yesterday suggests that official data may represent only a small fraction of the actual severity of the pandemic in Indonesia.
Citing preliminary results from a seroprevalence study conducted by the University of Udayana, the article reports that the rate of infection in Bali is 53 times higher in September and November than what was officially reported. Public health experts have consistently voiced concerns about Indonesia’s lack of testing and tracing throughout the pandemic, and Bali in particular has not publicly shared data on this front. Bali Health Agency Chief, Ketut Suarjaya, said the province is conducting between 500 and 600 tests each day even when labs in the province have the capacity of testing about 2,500 samples daily, noting that tracing efforts have been particularly sub-par. He was quoted as saying that health authorities have only managed to trace back each COVID-19 case to eight or nine people, when the ideal number lies between 25 and 30. (coconuts.co)

Fishing For Big Fish Large Drug Cases Involving Foreigners And Bali Police Officers Uncovered During the last weeks the Bali police along with the Indonesian customs have uncovered a number of high profile drug cases and has arrested a number of foreigners and Indonesians including a police officer in Bali. According to the reports the 46year old police officer working the Badung police department was arrested by the Narcotics Unit of the Denpasar Police on May 8 when he was about to deposit a pack of Crystal Meth for a customer at Janan Gatsu Barat in Denpasar. A subsequent search of his house revealed another 84 grams of Crystal Meth packed in small portions ready to be sold along with drug paraphernalia suggesting the the man wasn’t

financial problems since the onset of the COVID19 pandemic.
On May 13 a 34-year-old Italian national was arrested at his villa in Noth Kuta (commonly known as Canggu) after the Badung police received some tip-offs from the public suspecting the man to be a drug dealer. And they were right. During the search of the man’s villa the police found around 100 grams of cocaine worth around 400 million Rupiah ($US28,000). The head of the Badung police narcotic department, Budi Artama, confirmed the arrests adding that his party is still investigating the origins of this large amount of cocaine. Artama also acknowledged that the Italian stated to have started his drug business due to
Not even two weeks later the Badung police announced the arrest another man, a British national and the owner of a hotel in Lombok, along with his girlfriend for the possession of more than 220 grams of cannabis in early May. The 62-year-old man and his 54-year-old girlfriend were arrested following a public tip-off on May 7 at a parking area in Canggu. The cannabis was found in the couple’s car packed in two plastic bags. Based on the large amount of the drug the police is suspecting the two to be dealers as well. A Russian man has been arrested at his residence in Jimbaran after receiving almost 200 grams of DMT (Dimethyltryptamine) by mail from the Ukraine. DMT is considered a class 1 drug in Indonesia, a fact that may land the man in jail for up to 12 years. The mailing was found 4

by the Indonesian customs who then, and in cooperation with the police, carried out a personal delivery of the package to its recipient. Last but probably not least two Indonesian men arriving at Bali’s Ngurah Rai’s domestic airport from the Indonesian province of Aceh in North Sumatra have been arrested after the airport customs found 1 kilogram of Crystal Meth hidden in their modified sandals on May 22. But, as 250 grams of Meth in each of their sandals probably make them look a bit weird the two men were arrested before they were able to continue their trip to Lombok. The two men admitted that they were paid 30 million Rupiah for this delivery by a drug dealer in Aceh. That’s not much compared to the up to 12 years in jail they are facing now,

Our Flag Carrier Must Be Saved Garuda Indonesia Faces Bankruptcy company’s financial situation has become “more difficult” an official from the company stated adding the Garuday is exploring several options to keep the company afloat. Garuda independent commissioner Yenny Wahid addressed concerns surrounding Garuda on Twitter recently, reassuring that those in charge of the airline are doing all they can to ensure its survival. Indonesia may soon be without a flag carrier, as Garuda Indonesia’s woes continue to deepen amid the pandemic and with bankruptcy becoming a very real possibility for the national airline. On Friday last week the airline announced that it will start offering early severance packages to its employees in July after the
“Many are asking about Garuda. Right now we are working hard so Garuda avoids bankruptcy. Garuda inherited many huge problems, from corruption cases to inefficient budgeting. But Garuda is our flag carrier. It must be saved. I ask for your support and prayers,” Yenny tweeted.
According to the company’s CEO, Irfan Setiawan, Garuda currently has a debt of 70 trillion Rupiah (US$4.9 billion) adding that the airline’s debt is growing by around 1 trillion Rupiah (US$70 million) per month. As reported by Coconuts Jakarta the airline is also planning to reduce the size of its fleet by 50% to around 70 planes. The big question at the moment is what other airline will buy all these used aircraft in the middle of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic with international flight and travel reduced to a level all these airlines have probably never seen before? And, as Garuda has a lot of subsidiaries like Areowisata hotels and their low cost airline, Citylink, all these companies will probably also face serious problems in case of a bankruptcy of the holding company.
They Are “Delusional” UK nationals deported from Indonesia After Escaping Mandatory Quarantine In Jakarta A British couple, described as “delusional” by the Indonesian Immigration has been deported and blacklisted after the two managed to run away on the way to their COVID19 quarantine hotel after arriving in Jakarta on May 7. They simply told their driver that they need to go to the restroom causing the driver to stop somewhere on the way between the airport and the hotel. The two freshly arrived travelers took this chance to disappear leaving their luggage behind in the car. It took the Indonesian authorities quite some time to get hold if the couple again. They were arrested in Bogor exactly 2 weeks later on May 21 after they played games with the investigators by constantly changing their accommodation. According to some reports they avoided the mandatory 5 day hotel quarantine because of the lack of funds. In a pretty comedic video uploaded to their Instagram account, the Jakarta immigration office described the couple as “delusional”. “They consider the quarantine system for foreigners in Indonesia to be very silly. They believe that every human being has the freedom to go anywhere based on nature’s law, which has a higher hierarchy than the law of any government,” a text on the video reads while the footage shows the couple mask-less, smiling and giving thumbs up to the camera. Authorities investigating viral ‘porn villa’ videos shot in Bali which is a tall tapered pole made from bamboo that is commonly seen outside Balinese Hindu homes during religious holidays. The online discovery has already brought out some sensational headlines from Indonesian media outlets, which included terms like “foursome” and “sex party,” while also alleging that the video involved an Indonesian woman. Police today confirmed that the villa is located in Bali’s Umalas area, though they have yet to identify the specific property. A number of pornographic videos taken at a “porn villa” are taking Balinese social media by storm as people strongly suspect that they were taken on the Island of the Gods, with local authorities now on the case. One of the clips, which appear to have been posted on TikTok before it was reposted on other platforms, began with

The woman’s husband reportedly jumped into the river to rescue his wife and his daughter but couldn’t reach them and was lucky to be able to save himself. He then called for help from local residents at the beach who started to search for the victims who wee finally found floating close to the shore. One of the two victims was, as reported by some local news channels, still alive but passed away shortly after being rescued. What a tragedy. Thirteen dolphins that were stranded on Batu Tumpeng Beach in Bali’s Klungkung regency in the early evening hours on May 27 have been successfully released back into the ocean, authorities said, following evacuation efforts which went late into the night. According to an official from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in Klungkung the Dolphins were first sighted close to the shore on the previous day. Authorities said the Dolphins might have stranded because of high tidal waves, adding that some were found on the sand while others were found between rocks close to the shore. In a combined effort by local residents and the authorities all Dolphins have been successfully sent back into the ocean by midnight. Authorities at Sanur Port, which is actually just a part of the beach, had to shift their operations to a different location on Wednesday last week to ensure the safety of the passengers heading to Nusa penida and the boats itself. “Due to the large waves we were forced to move the port location from Sanur Beach to Le Mayuer Beach near Le Mayuer Museum which is located on the southern part of Sanur.” the Head of Sanur Port, I Ketut Suratnata Putra, told the press. An Australian and an Englishman bump into each other in the supermarket. Sorry mate, says the Englishman, I am a bit nervous, I lost my wife, can't find her anywhere. The Australian replies; gee, I can't find mine either, how about we go and look for them together? Sure, says the Englishman, what does you wife look like? Eh well, she's blonde, long hair, tall slim body, well tanned, large breasts and she's wearing a tight fitting low cut black dress. What does your wife look like? Forget about my wife, says the Englishman, let's go and look for yours! Little Johnny returns from school and tells his father he got an "F" in Arithmetic today. "Why?" asks his father. "The teacher asked, 'How much is 2 x 3?' I said "6". "But that's right," said his father. "Then she asked me 'How much is 3 x 2? "What's the f****ng difference?" asks his father. "That's what I said!" A blonde woman decides that she is sick and tired of all the blonde jokes and how all blondes are perceived as stupid, so she decides to show her husband that blondes really are smart. While her husband is off at work, she decides that she is going to paint a couple of rooms in the house. The next day, right after her husband leaves for work, she gets down to the task at hand. Her husband arrives home at 5:30 and smells the distinctive smell of paint. He walks into the living room and finds his wife lying on the floor in a pool of sweat. He notices that she is wearing a ski jacket and a fur coat at the same time. He goes over and asks her if she is OK. She replies yes. He asks what she is doing. She replies that she wanted to prove to him that not all blonde women are dumb and she wanted to do it by painting the house. He then asks her why she has a ski jacket over her fur coat. She replies that she was reading the directions on the paint can and they said, "For best results, put on two coats." An old man lived alone in Ireland. He wanted to dig his potato garden, but it was very hard work. His only son, who would have helped him, was in prison for bank robbery. The old man wrote a letter to his son and mentioned his predicament. Shortly, he received this reply: "For HEAVEN'S SAKE, Dad, don't dig up that garden. That's where I buried the money!" At 4 A.M. the next morning, a dozen policemen showed up and dug up the entire garden, without finding any money. Confused, the old man wrote another note to his son telling him what happened, and asking him what to do next. His son's reply was: "Now plant your potatoes, Dad. It's the best I could do from here." A panda walks into a bar, sits down, and orders a sandwich. He eats, pulls out a gun, and shoots the waiter dead. As the panda stands up to go, the bartender shouts, "Hey! Where are you going? You just shot my waiter and you didn't pay for the food!" The panda yells back, "Hey man, I'm a panda. Look it up!" A guy owns a parrot that swears like a sailor. He can swear for five minutes straight without repeating himself. Trouble is, the guy who owns him is a quiet, conservative type, and this bird's foul mouth is driving him crazy. One day, it gets to be too much. The guy grabs the bird by the throat, shakes him hard and yells, "QUIT IT!" But this just makes the bird mad and he swears more than ever. Then the guy gets mad and says, "OK for you." He locks the bird in a kitchen cabinet. This really aggravates the bird and he claws and scratches, and when the guy finally lets him out, the bird cuts loose with a stream of vulgarities that would make a veteran sailor blush. At this point, the guy is so mad that he throws the bird into the freezer. For the first few seconds there is a terrible din. The bird kicks and claws and thrashes. Then it suddenly gets very, very quiet . At first the guy Masters Of Transport & Logistics just waits, but then he starts to think that the bird may be hurt. After a couple of minutes of silence, he's worried enough to open the freezer door. The bird calmly climbs onto the man's outstretched arm and says, "Awfully sorry about the trouble I gave you. I'll do my best to improve my vocabulary from now on." The man is astounded. He can't understand the transformation that has come over the parrot. A little boy wants a bike for Christmas really badly, but the kid is a real bad seed, and he knows it. He writes a letter to Jesus. "Dear Jesus, if I get a bike for Christmas, I'll be good for a whole week." He thinks about it, crosses out what he wrote, and says, "I can't be good for a whole week, I'll be good for five days." He crosses that out and writes, "I'll be good for four days." Then he thinks again and says, "Can't do that." He gets down to one day and says, "I can't even be good for a day." Then in frustration, goes in his mother's room and get the statue of the Virgin Mary, wraps it up in a blanket, puts it in a paper bag, throws it in the closet and says, "Dear Jesus, if I don't get a bike for Christmas, you'll never see your mother again!"
