Governor among Bali officials reported to human rights commission The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), also locally known as Hare Krishna, filed the report against about a dozen people to Komnas HAM yesterday, the list of which included Koster. “One of the people we reported for human rights violations is the governor of Bali … [We] suspect that there are human rights violations against our organization, ISKCON Foundation Indonesia which is headquartered in Bali,” ISKCON Indonesia secretary general, Putu Wijaya, said.

Bali Governor Wayan Koster has been accused of hindering worshipping activities by a religious organization, which this week moved to file a report at the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM).

Wijaya alleged that ISKCON has been obstructed from conducting their worshipping activities, noting that the foundation is officially recognized by the Religious Affairs Ministry, Law and Human Rights Ministry, as well as the Parisada Hindu Dharma Indonesia (PHDI), which is the country’s leading authority on Hinduism. Earlier this year in April, the Krishna Balaram Ashram in Denpasar — where Hare Krishna is practiced — was closed

and prohibited from carrying out its activities. This follows the decision by PHDI’s Bali chapter and the province’s Majelis Desa Adat (MDA), or traditional village council, to prohibit ISKCON’s activities, which was formalized in a joint declaration signed last December “We were told that we defied the Bali dresta (traditional Balinese code). But we are all Balinese, our ancestors and fathers are Balinese. Our teacher who is acting as our chairman is also Balinese,” Wijaya said. A representative of ISKCON’s legal team, Dewa Krisna Prasada, claimed that the organization has been persecuted by the local village authority and mass organizations, who entered their holy spaces with force and insulted a figure the group regarded as holy. “All of their actions are recorded on CCTV and we have submitted all this evidence to Komnas HAM,” Krisna said.

Back To School Indonesia To Reopen Schools Under Strict Health Protocols On Monday last week the Indonesian President, Joko Widodo, has officially given his approval for the schools in Indonesia to reopen and to restart face-to-face learning again more than one year after all schools nationwide have been closed due the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic since, at least, the middle of last year.

Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, told reporters at a press conference held at the State Palace in Jakarta last week adding that the school reopening policy requires all teacher and staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Unfortunately this vaccination requirement won’t protect anyone else than the teachers themselves as even a fully vaccinated person can still carry the SARS-CoV-2 virus and can transmit it to others.

The head of the Bali office for the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Jamaruli Manihuruk told the press that Kevin and Celine are believed to have arrived in Bali at either the end of April or early May, and intended to make a porn video on the island adding that they did not report back to the villa owner when they left and that they might be blacklisted and won’t be able to enter Indonesia again in the future. According to some news channels data from the Indonesian immigration shows that the two main actors have left the country already and have returned to their home country which would mean that their real identities are, regardless of the official statements made by the authorities in Bali, actually known. An Unusual Location Bali International Airport Opens Photo-Shoot Service Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport has opened its facilities for photoshoot services in a desperate effort to generate more income for the airport. Stakeholder Relation Manager of Angkasa Pura I, Ltd for the Ngurah Rai Airport, Taufan Yudhistira confirmed that most of the airport areas can now be booked for photo sessions adding the the service is actually available since the beginning of June. “Customers are required to pay 5 million Rupiah ($US350) to be able to use the airport for their photo session. Every additional hour will be charged with 1 million Rupiah ($US70),” Yudhistira explained. According to him the idea was born after the authorities received a number of requests to take prewedding photos inside the airport by professional photographers and couples who wanted a pre-wedding photo-shoot a little different from the normal ones. “Although we haven’t had any bookings yet, we received good response while promoting it on social media.” Yudhistira concluded. 4

It’s Not In Our Hands Balinese Politicians Still Hoping To Reopen Next Month The closer we get to July the more local politicians are somehow starting to backpaddle when it comes to the plans how an when to reopen Bali for international tourists next month. These plans are, again, turning into hope as there is no statement regarding a complete reopening of the borders for international travelers from the Indonesian central government yet. Bali’s Deputy Governor, Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati better known as Cok Ace, stated that he is still optimistic that the plan to reopen Bali for international tourist in July can be realized but he also added that this decision is not in the hands of

the local but the central government. Cok Ace has also recently claimed that “almost” 50% of the targeted 70% of Bali’s population are already vaccinated against COVID-19 and that, therefore and based on this numbers the reopening of the island should go as planned. Unfortunately this statement is not entirely correct. The “almost” 50% have received their first vaccine shot but only around 21% have received their second shot and unfortunately it’ll still take months before the final vaccination program target will be reached but generally Bali’s COVID-19 vaccination

program, one of the main pilars for a possible reopening, is on a very good way.. Bali’s Governor, I Wayan Koster has also voice his optimism that the island might be reopened in July. He simply brought it to the point by saying “Astungkara (which basically means “it may happen by His will) Bali can be reopened in July,”. We’re now all waiting for the things to come the next weeks.

No More Empty Promises Bali Tourism Officials Urging The Government To Stick With Their Plans A number of stakeholders in the tourism industry in Bali have urged the government to stop making empty promises regarding the islands reopening for international tourists. From the tourism industry’s point of view the Balinese government has come up with many strategies, ideas and proposals for the islands recovery but not one of these has been realized until now. This also applies to the Indonesian central

government which has recently announced to be finalizing its “travel bubble” agreements with 5 countries. Despite the clear statements from the Australian and the Singaporean that international travel for leisure won’t be an option for their citizens until, alt least, next year both countries have been, along with China, the Netherlands and UAE countries, included in this “travel bubble” list. Bali’s Deputy Governor, Cok

Ace who also act as the Head of Bali Hotel and Restaurant Association, has stated that the Bali tourism sector is not able to wait for the country’s border to reopen any longer adding that many tourism players in Bali have reached their limits and are now facing complete bankruptcy.

News Compressed A Short Run-Down Of Stuff That Didn't Make It Into a Full Article Beside all that COVID-19 madness and the fact that almost all news are focusing on the development of the pandemic on the island there are still other things going on. A video posted on social media by a foreigner of undisclosed origin has caused a lot of amusement among the Balinese netizens. In the video the man presents a parking fee receipt over 9.6 million Rupiah ($US670) issued at Bali’s Nuguarah Rai airport for two months of parking at the airport parking deck. According the the reports and according to the Stakeholder Relation Manager of Angkasa Pura I Ltd, for Bali Airport, Taufan Yudhistira, this amount is correct and based on the official parking fees. The car owner stated that he

had no time to organize himself another long term parking sport and that he simply parked his car at the airport due to the spontaneity of his trip. “I parked my car at the airport which was a silly idea because it’s the most expensive place you can park long term.” he reportedly said. A college student in Bali, originally from Lombok, has been arrested after stealing the motorbike of a foreign woman parked in front of her villa in North Kuta. According to the head of the North Kuta police department the police investigation started after the 28-year-old woman from Greece filed a report that her motorbike was

missing on the June 1. After collecting information from residents in the area and probably after reviewing some CCTV footage the police arrested the man not long after. During interogation he admitted that he had stolen 5 more motorbikes in Kuta and Denpasar before. He is now facing up to 5 years behind bars for theft. Two Turkish nationals have been arrested for ATM skimming at a petrol station in Denpsara after they have been caught red-handed while attempting to prepare another ATM with a skimming device. According to the reports the police was already waiting for them at the petrol station. The Director of Criminal Investigation Bureau from Bali Police Department, Kombes Yuliar Kus Nugroho, confirmed that both suspects attempted to resist arrest by assaulting the officers, but luckily dozens of officers managed to handle the situation quickly. Nugroho also said that more information on the case would be released soon but even one week after the arrest we couldn’t find any news on the case.

You're the father of quadruplets." “That's strange,” he answers. “I work for the Four Seasons hotel!” The last man begins groaning and banging his head against the wall. “What's wrong?” the others ask. “I work for 7 Up!” Teacher: "Anyone who thinks he's stupid may stand up!" For sure nobody stands up Teacher: "I'm sure there are some stupid students over here!!" Little Johnny stands up. Teacher: "Johnny do you think you're stupid?"
