Tourism Minister to visit Australia to encourage more Aussie tourists in Bali Tourism and Creative Economy,” Sandiaga said yesterday.
Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno is scheduled to visit Australia from July 6 to July 12 in a bid to boost Bali tourism by encouraging Australians to travel to the Island of Gods. “We are preparing a visit to Australia. This will be my first official visit since I started my term in the Ministry of
Australians are typically among Bali’s top travelers – bolstered by cheap flights and keenly priced tourism attractions, from night clubs to beaches. Since Bali started gradually reopening its international airport for international flights, Australians have begun flocking to Bali to satisfy their pent-up wanderlust. “We see that Australia is still a potential market to increase tourist arrivals [with] Bali as the main destination. But naturally there are other destinations that we have prepared,” the minister added. This year, Indonesia aims to see between 1.8 to 3.6 million tourist arrivals.
According to the Ministry, 15,000 travelers have arrived in Bali in 2022 as of last week with visas on arrival (VOA). Most of them came from Australia, Singapore, the US, France, and the UK. There are currently only 42 nationalities eligible for VOA entry. A publication has claimed that tourist arrivals from down under, in particular, have been helping revive Bali’s economy. Separately, Australia’s Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams confirmed that many Australians are looking forward to returning to Bali now that the island is officially open to tourists again. US calls for Russia’s exclusion from G20 Summit in Bali, plans boycott “[President Biden has] asked that Russia be removed from the G20, and I’ve made clear to my colleagues in Indonesia that we will not be participating in a number of meetings if the Russians are there,” U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said yesterday.
Amid President Vladimir Putin’s plan to attend the G20 Summit in Bali — despite calls for Russia’s exclusion from the club — a top U.S. official has said they will boycott “a number of G20 meetings” if Russian representatives take part in them.
The ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis has reportedly put Indonesia, which holds the G20 presidency for the first time, in an awkward position. The increasing calls for excluding Russia from the summit poses a question on whether welcoming Putin to Bali would jeopardize Indonesia’s own interests in the G20.
Indonesia’s G20 Co-Sherpa Dian Triansyah Djani said recently that Indonesia has the obligation to invite all G20 members for the 2022 Summit. Coconuts reached out to Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokesman Teuku Faizasyah for comment regarding Yellen’s statement. His reply was short. “Not every statement needs to be responded to,” he said in a text message. (coconuts.co)
American found dead by suicide in Kerobokan hotel Parwata reportedly attempted to call JMH’s room first to ask whether the victim would like to extend his stay or not. “The victim was supposed to check out [from the hotel yesterday] at 2pm,” said Badung Police’s spokesman Ketut Sudana. An American man in his late 20s was found dead in his hotel room in Mertanadi, Kerobokan. Police suspected that he took his own life. The lifeless body of JMH. 28, was found by the hotel’s housekeeper, Putu Agus Parwata, yesterday around 2:30pm.
After JMH did not pick up the phone, Parwata decided to knock on his door but still received no response. He later decided to forcefully open the door and found JMH’s body. “[Based on] identification results, the victim was already dead for eight hours,” CANGGU WEEKLY, 08 Apr - 15 Apr 2022
Sudana said, adding that there was no foul play in his death and the police suspected JMH had committed suicide. If you or anyone you know is suffering from depression and/or contemplating suicide, you can get more information and resources from several local NGOs dealing with mental health and suicide prevention. “When we put them into custody […] the foreigners at some point fought back and it was handled by the field officers,” Muliarta added. The officers later searched the villa and found four passports–one of them already burned. At the time of this article’s publication, the six Eastern Europeans were being detained at the Denpasar Immigration’s detention facility and shortly set for deportation. (balidiscovery.com)

He later noted that a synthetic cannabinoid called ADB-FUBIATA, also found in the cookies, is not yet included on Indonesia’s drugs list. “[Now that it is confirmed] that ADBFUBIATA is in Indonesia, [this] can be a warning to the Ministry of Health to update the narcotics list so that [ADBFUBIATA] can be included,” he said, adding that the synthetic cannabinoid was sent from China.
