Plans to Increase VOA Branded as ‘HOAX’ circles who condemned the visa fee increase as inimical to current efforts to rebuild the local tourism industry.

Bali’s Governor Wayan Koster has denied and labeled “hoax” reports in the local press claiming the visa-on-arrival (VOA) fees would soon increase from Rp. 50,000 to Rp. 1.5 million. Reports in the local press of an imminent increase in the VOA fees triggered widespread opposition in Bali tourism

Underlining reports of an increased VOA fee were baseless, Governor Koster said he had personally checked with the Minister of Law and Human Rights, who confirmed there were no plans to increase the VOA fee to Rp. 1,5 million. Adding, “This is untrue. This is a lie. Don’t believe it.” Ministerial Regulation Number 9/ PML.02/2022 on 16 April 2022 underlines the Rp. 500,000 VOA fee remains unchanged. While the subject regulation sets new rates for

various classes of visas, it leaves the VOA fee unchanged at Rp. 500,000. Of the 23,820 VOA’s processed in Bali between 07 March 2022 until 12 April 2022, Australians dominated the visa recipients at 5,888 (24.7%), followed by 2,649 (11.2%) UK nationals and 2,358 (9.8%) Germans. Immigration officials at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport report an upward trend in the number of travelers using the visa-on-arrival facility. Indonesia now extends the VOA facility to the citizens of 42 countries. (balidiscovery.com)

Bali hotels hoping to boost tourism by offering Eid holiday discounts: Association hotspots like Kuta, Seminyak, and Canggu, among others – are offering big deals during the upcoming holiday to boost the island’s hotel occupancy rate.

Hotels in Bali, particularly in Badung Regency, are expecting to attract more tourists during Lebaran (Eid holiday) season by offering massive cuts on room fees, the region’s association of hotels said. The chairman of the Badung chapter of the Indonesian Hotels and Restaurants Association (PHRI), I Gusti Ngurah Rai Suryawijaya, said yesterday that hotels in the regency – which comprise tourist

In addition to welcoming domestic tourists who want to vacay in Bali during the Eid holiday, he said that three-star to five-star hotels are also eyeing tourists from Southeast Asia and the 43 nationalities currently on the visa on arrival (VOA) eligibility list. “So [travelers] can tell stories that Bali is very worth it to visit. Safe, comfortable, and [there are] special rates,” said Suryawijaya. While he did not provide a full list of hotels offering Lebaran deals, Suryawijaya said a night at a five-star

hotel is going for a rate of IDR 2.5-3 million (US$175-200). Four-star hotels are offering around IDR2 million (US$140) per night deals, while threestar hotel stays will set you back around IDR1-1.5 million (US$70-105) per night. Furthermore, Suryawijaya said that the hotel occupancy rate during Lebaran is expected to reach 40 percent. That would be a significant increase from both 2020 and 2021, when hotel occupancy rates languished below 20 percent even during Lebaran season. This year’s Eid holiday period, including government-mandated collective leave days (AKA cuti bersama), will fall from Apr. 29 to May 6. Eid itself is expected to fall on either May 2 or 3 this year. Ida Bagus added that the Indonesian Embassy in Colombo is already on the case and the five Balinese women are currently under their protection.

“[They are all] still needed as witnesses so that the charges against their employers as human traffickers can be concluded. Separately, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ citizens protection director Judha Nugraha confirmed that the five women were initially arrested for working illegally in Colombo.
