BaliProvinceʼsForestryand EnvironmentalAffairsAgencyHeadI MadeTeja saidyesterday thatthe Suwunglandfill,whichtakesintrash fromDenpasarandBadung,willbe closeddownbytheendofOctober. “Thelandfillwillbeclosedattheendof Octoberbecauseitʼsalreadyfull,so[we] needtofindanothersiteandtheother reasonisbecausethereistheG20 [Summit],”theofficialsaid. Heexplainedthatthe32-hectarelandfill beganitsoperationsin1980and accommodates1,000tonsoftrashper day. Officialsin Balihavebeenkeentotackle theprovinceʼswastemanagement problemstospruceuptheislandforthe G20Summit,giventhattheeventwillbe attendedbysomeoftheworldʼsmost powerfulfigures. Threesitesaresettoreplacethe Suwunglandfillonceitretires,namely KesimanKertalanguVillageinEast Denpasar,whichcanaccommodate450 tonsoftrashperday;Padangsambian KajaVillageinWestDenpasar,whichcan accommodate120tonsoftrashperday; andTamanHutanRayaNgurahRaiin SouthDenpasar,whichcanhold450 tonsoftrashperday.
