AsBaligearsuptohost leadersofG20countriesfor theforumʼssummitthis November,anofficialhas announcedthatthe committeehasprepared electriccarsexclusivelyfor theevent.

TheG20Summitwilltake placeintheNusaDuatourism complexonNov.15-16. Localauthoritieshaveindeed beenbusy,includingcleaning uptheislandʼsunsightly landfills.

“Allofthecarsaroundthe venuewillbeelectric,so othercarswillnotbeallowed in.Thecommitteewill providethecars,” said Usman Kansong,thedirectorof publiccommunicationsand informationoftheMinistryof Communicationand InformationTechnology.

Thegovernmentwillprovide 616electricvehiclesatthe complex,designatedforG20 delegatesandtheirsecurity details,aswellasshuttle busesforjournalists.

Inaddition,88electriccars and94electricmotorbikes willbeprovidedtothepolice tosecurethesummit.Some IDR66billion (US$4.3million) hasbeenallocatedfromthe 2022StateBudgetforthe procurementofthese vehicles.

Previously,VicePresident MaʼrufAmin said the governmentcouldafterwards adopttheelectricvehiclesfor officialuseorsellthemto privatecompanies.Earlierthis month,PresidentJokoWidodo issued apresidential instruction forelectric vehiclestophaseoutgaspoweredgovernment vehicles.

“Almosteverynightoftheweek, everyweek,everymonthbefore andnowafterthepandemic,”the petitionsaid.

Thepetitionalsohighlighted “indecentanddisrespectfulacts”, whichareespeciallytroubling whentheclubsandbarsare locatedneartemples.Theseacts supposedlyinclude“drunkenness,

sexualbehaviors,urinating”and “possiblyconsumptionofillegal substances.”

“Wesincerelyrequestthe governmenttoimmediatelypass strictregulationswithofficialand severesanctions,withstrict monitoringbytheSatpolPP (PublicOrderAgency),”the petitionreads.

Thepetitionersaretargeting7,500 signaturesinthehopethat decisionmakerswillrespond.

Thepetitiondidnotnamedrop anyestablishmentsbyname–in fact,itfocusesonthegeneral

noisepollutionanddebaucheryin thearea.However,some commentersspecifically targeted AtlasBeachFest(previously knownasHolywingsBali), the latestbeachclubtoopenin Berawa

CoconutsBalihasreachedoutto representativesofAtlasBeach Festforcomment.Tobefairto AtlasBeachFest,itshouldbe notedthatitisnottheonly establishmentinthearea–and thatCangguanditssurroundings havebeenrapidlydevelopingin recentyears (yes,eventhrough thepandemic).

Atanyrate,whenaskedaboutthe petition,BaliPolicespokesman StefanusSatakeBayuSetianto toldCoconutsBalithathis departmentwillinspectCanggu establishmentstoseewhetheror nottheyviolatetheiroperational hours.

Healsoadvisedlocalauthorities tocometogetherwithcommunity memberswhofiledthepetitionin ordertocomeupwithsolutions.
