"Exclusive-Exclusives" with Mike Fisher
COVERING THE COWBOYS
Marcia and Mike Fisher can recall the exact time, a few
years ago, when they decided to buy their home in the Frisco area.
"As soon as Jerry Jones determined where he was going to set up shop,'' Mike says, laughing, "we were able to determine where we could set up shop.''
Mike - "The Fish'' to Dallas Cowboys fans who have followed his coverage of "America's Team'' for over 30 years -- now resides just a few miles away from The Star in Frisco, the home base for Jones' Cowboys team headquarters. Mike offices there as part of his work with Cowboys flagship radio station 105.3 The Fan and with 247Sports, where in both spots he's recognized for his "Exclusive-Exclusives'' on the Cowboys.
Fisher, has been covering the Cowboys, the Dallas Mavericks and professional sports in Dallas/Fort Worth since 1990, and before
that was a young man coving the Denver Broncos (for his hometown newspaper in Greeley, Colorado) and the San Francisco 49ers.
Says Mike: “When I covered the Broncos, they went to two Super Bowls, and I went with them. Then I got hired to cover the 49ers, and they went to two Super Bowls. By the time I’d covered the Cowboys and their three Super Bowls in four years, I started thinking maybe I was a lucky rabbit’s foot.’’
Whether the Cowboys are up or down has little impact on Fish’s popularity with DFW fans. An award-winning journalist, TV analyst and radio talk-show personality with deep connections with Jones and his organization and with Mark Cuban and his organization, he is Dallas’ most “embedded’’ reporter, and has one of the highest audience recognizability ratings of any media figure in North Texas. (He travels on the Cowboys team plane and stays at the team hotel on their road trips.)
That popularity has resulted in two popular books written about the Cowboys (with forwards from Jerry Jones and Troy Aikman) and it makes him a natural spokesman for businesses like "Next 2 Natural'' and our own "The Cannon Team,'' a connection that feeds his interests not only in sports and journalism, but also in real estate, design, investing and the overall healthy growth of North Texas.
"I've raised my family here, and except for the fact that I never ever want to retire -- because I'd get bored! -- North Texas is where I'd want to retire,'' he says. "The old saying about Dallas is that Mondays are always better when the Cowboys win, and it's true. But for me, with the opportunities I've been blessed with here, really, North Texas has for me been fantastic the other six days of the week, too!''
