very month, there’s always pressure to create the perfect magazine, to have fresh ideas and to consistently put smiles on our readers through every article, column or interview. Many decisions need to be made. Who would be on the cover? Which trends are in? Which topics will be great for the readers to read? There are so many questions to be answered. We are more than writers; we are therapists, researchers, trend forecasters and we are always evolving. It is proven that there are a lot of responsibilities and it can be stressful. The main vocabulary that goes through the hallways at First Row is the word; deadlines. Which evidently imposes constant pressure but helps in finishing our job and ensures us to follow through. I am fortunate to work with a team of talented individuals who don’t let anything or anyone get in their way when it comes to bringing our readers the hottest newest juiciest content. This does not only apply in the office; each one of us carry this trait throughout our daily lives. Frequently, it will happen that we’re going to have no choice to work beyond our pace and our limits will be pushed. Questions on our abilities and capabilities might strike in our minds. It is important to know that yes we are capable, capable of anything. However, dedication, perseverance and teamwork is key. The pressure is just a reminder to stay on task and that work needs to get done. Of course every issue has it’s running around, chaos and frantic moments, however the reward of delivering quality authentic fashion content to our readers outweighs any stress encountered on the journey and here at First Row we will continue to accept that challenge.

DIVERSITY! DI-PURSE-ITY! A look at the birth cultural diversity and it’s influence on handbags Throughout the 70’s and 80’s handbags and purses have seen t r e m e n d o u s creativity and an immense amount of evolution. The 70’s brought diversity in truck loads as it is the decade of subcultures, experimenting and f a s h i o n forwardness. The early seventies cherished the soft fabric shoulder bags that were

embellished in I n d i a n embroideries, tassels cords and fringes. These shoulder bags and pouches came in an array of fabrics and cloths from floral p a t t e r n s , multicolored suedes and patchwork. Which made this trend available for all personalities and w a r d r o b e s . Following the shoulder bags, pochettes and envelope bags were introduced with a more str uctured fabric like leathers and more tailoring was involved.

Activewear became a huge influence on fashion and was being often emulated on top runways. Retailers were perplexed with whether to sell these

The 1970s and the 1980s makeup revolution has risen. In the 1970s makeup is known to be very light. We are wearing light colors on our faces and on our lips. Our makeup in the 1970s is very different from the 80s. Starting with concealer, concealers are very light and barely put on, the only time concealers are put on is only where needed not on the whole face since it isn’t necessarily. The concealer isn’t put underneath the eyes because eye shadow is usually put underneath the eye. Now for the eye shadow, applying eye shadow you need two colors. One of the colors is usually darker than the other. For example one of the colors mostly used are either turquoise or an emerald green. Along with those colors as a dark color the lighter color would be silver or white. Not only the silver or white that would be on the upper eyelid it is also applied underneath the brow. Then the eyeliner comes into place along with the eye shadow. The colors mostly worn as eyeliners are brown, white or blue. As for mascaras it is different. They would be wearing brown mascara and black. Mostly with the black mascara it is false eyelashes or in many cases we paint our eyelashes at the bottom of our eyelid.

Lipsticks are a major cosmetic to have today ladies. Pail lipstick is in. But mostly when ladies are out they wear fuchsia lipstick most commonly used lipstick of the shade fuchsia is number 19 of Yves Saint Laurent. Throughout 1975’s punk is coming out. Our major evolution between the 70s to the 80s is going to be punk changing into gothic. The gothic look has painted white faces and with dark heavy makeup worn on their eyes along with fake painted eyebrows matching their hair colors. One of the biggest scandals is the waterproof mascara is coming into play.

Mostly brown and black fake brows. As for lipstick we would have bow tie lips. The evolution between 1970-1980 is starting to change, with our overall completion. The 80s is a fresh and natural look. The reason for the 80s being natural is because the foundation is put on and gives the look as natural, the eyebrows are also natural. Then there was the other side, which consisted of going to nightclubs and enjoys Saturday nights parting. While they are parting their cosmetics are bolder and more colorful than everyday. Such as the eye shadows are colorful. The lips are at a strong color. As for the foundation and blush, it is covered up a lot with having blush under or on the cheekbones. One of the dominant company's in producing cosmetics is Maybelline. Such as many types of eyeliner, eye shadows and multiply different mascaras. Maybelline is looked at in many different fashion magazines. Vogue is now carrying ads of Maybelline cosmetics. Cher, David Bowie and molly ringwald are the biggest cosmetic icons. Farrah Fawcett is known to have natural beauty and natural g l ow. C y n d i L a u p e r a n d Madonna are coming more in style through the upcoming 80s.

A Theme to a Sweet Home Home décor is a lifestyle; which is a necessity to express a person’s personality through the way they live. The main trend that is craving for home décor is the matching the furniture with the home walls. Emphasizing on something that a person likes it creates a theme. If one is into roses, it is important to express in a home with pillows designed with roses, the wall decorated with roses, the chairs could be printed with flowers. The other aspect that is also important in interior decorations is focusing on colors depending on the theme.

If the theme has to do with delicate flowers, colors should be light, neutral and colors that have to do with the natural environment such as green, white beige, and light brown.

PERSONALITY THROUGH THE WAY WE LIVE

Where can colors be shown? Through chairs, carpets, tables, stools, shelves and many more. The color of wood for the furniture is very significant as well. Nature look would be a wood that is not too dark and not too light. If one individual likes the pattern of stripes then the color of the wood could be painted either white or black. The main goal is to figure what represents you the most, then work with being coherent by following the colors in order to keep the theme and not make it so complicated. Expressing one’s individual is the most welcoming element in anybody’s home.

Ne w l y b o r n f r o m t h e ghetto’s of Brooklyn & Buschwick is the hot new craze, Uprocking! Founded by a dancing pioneer named Rubber band man, who had one sole intent. That intention was to redirect the energy and anger from gangsters in ghettos across America. Harnessing this energy put into gang fights and directing it to dance battle-offs. Like boxing, uprocking is a competitive sport and the title is constantly being fought for. Judges look for specific abilities in each crew and each dance member.

Uprock incorporates salsa, the hustle, free-styling, burns and jerks. All to the rhythmical sounds of blended and mixed DJ beats.

Thus being a strong e l e m e n t i n t h e n e we s t movement, Hip Hop, and dancers must portray the c r e a t i v i t y, i n n o v a t i o n , cleverness and of course fluidity and musical coordinance.
