The Art of Christmas
Richmond is home to a range of galleries including Clarendon Fine Art which specialises in contemporary paintings and sculpture from some of the world’s most talented emerging artists. The Gooday Gallery concentrates on the most influential design periods of Art Deco, Modernism, Mid Century and the 1960’s and 1970’s. One Paved Court is an artist-run space showing work from internationally recognised, to local or emerging artists and hosts artist’s talks and workshops. This year, the Richmond upon Thames Christmas Lights Switch On promises to be an extra special event with fun and entertainment for everyone. Frost Fair Market From 11am
Festivities begin just before lunchtime with a Frost Fair Christmas Market at Richmond Riverside selling locally-made and sustainably sourced crafts, gifts and food. Radio Jackie and a merry-go-round on Whittaker Avenue will add to the atmosphere.
Santa’s Grotto 4pm to 6pm
Bring the little ones to the always-popular Santa’s Grotto in the magical garden of the Vineyard Community Centre, The Vineyard TW10 6AQ, from 4pm until 6pm. Visits cost £2.50 which includes a gift, face painting and other festive activities. All proceeds go towards helping the homeless.
Children’s Parade & Marching Band From 5pm
Led by festive minstrels, children from St Richard’s School and the Old Vicarage School will parade from the Bingham hotel to George Street via Richmond Riverside singing seasonal songs and picking up a marching band along the way!
Lights Switch On, George Street 5pm to 6.30pm
The main stage will be situated in George Street (close to Tesco Metro and Russell & Bromley) and the area will be a hive of festive activity: • Music from Radio Jackie • Fire performer • Jugglers • Stilt walkers • Elves • Costume characters • Panto characters from Peter Pan at Richmond Theatre • Stormtrooper • Christmas choirs • Plus SNOW outside Kiss The Hippo

The Mayor of the Borough, Councillor Ben Khosa, will attend the ceremony and lights will be switched on by a special celebrity at around 6.15pm. This year, the lights will have much wider coverage throughout the town, with a special display feature at the station.
Fireworks Finale
The event will close with a spectacular firework display on Richmond Green at around 6.30pm.

Duck Pond Market will be turning Richmond Riverside into a winter wonderland with stalls selling locally, ethically-sourced and sustainably made crafts, gifts and food - perfect for Christmas presents. Lit up as a magical frost fair, and accompanied by Radio Jackie playing Christmas favourites, there will also be a merry-go-round on Whittaker Avenue, street food, and hot chocolate. Duck Pond Market operate Christmas markets in Heron Square Richmond, every Saturday and Sunday during December offering inspirational gift ideas from independent traders. There’s always great coffee and some of the best street food in London. The True Spirit of Christmas This year, Be Richmond is delighted to be supporting the Vineyard Community Centre. Opened in 2012 to meet the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable in our community, the centre offers drop-in clinics, a café and a nursing service as well as training in social enterprise. It is also the home of the Richmond Foodbank. Last year, Vineyard Community Centre received over 8000 visits and helped over 200 people in crisis while the foodbank provided support for over 2000 local people.
