I CAN Volunteer
I CAN Volunteer (for Young Adults, Ages 16-30) The purpose of the I CAN Volunteer program is to provide opportunities for young adults with autism to step into mentorship roles within their communities. Program participants will attend workshops to learn specific volunteer skills that can be directly applied in the CAN program setting.
Program Structure & Supports Participants will attend weekly leadership workshops with the intent of becoming a volunteer in the I CAN Play series programs, supported by a Program Coordinator, Coach, Support Workers, and Volunteers. Upon completion of the leadership workshops, volunteer positions will be assigned under the discretion of the Program Coordinator. I CAN Volunteer participants will then attend their I CAN Play programs with a Support Worker who will provide guidance and feedback. At Canucks Autism Network, we strive to meet the needs of each participant through parent and participant collaboration. Our staff receive training on a variety of support strategies for individuals with autism. Please do not hesitate to speak with our staff about strategies that should be implemented (e.g., visual schedules, first-then boards, token systems, social stories, etc.) and contact the Program Coordinator, tara.rodas@canucksautism.ca with any questions or concerns.
