The Dyce Learning Partnership The Dyce LP aims to improve learning provision within the school catchment area. The Dyce Learning Partnership is a network which is open to all key Learning Providers, for example: Libraries, schools, churches, NHS, Police, Aberdeen City/Shire Council, The Rowett Institute,community groups, volunteers, ASDA Community Life, Under 12s, Community Council. The current themes are; • Children and Youth Participation • Adult and Over 50s • Media and Promotions (newsletters, booklets, social networking) The Learning Partnership is: • Carrying out a survey to help identify the community’s learning needs • Developing plans to help involve young people in activities • Funding the Dyce Academy Eco Garden Project and the Over 50s EncourAGE Group which organises ‘Have A Go Week’ • Making new links with other Learning Providers

Dyce Youth Work Wednesday nights 7 - 9pm (P7 & S1) Written By Sarah, age 11
(One of the first members of the club) The club started in January 2013 when 2 youth workers chatted with 3 of us P7 pupils who were out playing in the snow on school hill. My friends and I were interested in a youth club and enthusiastic about going to a youth club for the first time. The youth workers had rooms at the community centre we could use, and we promised to spread the word at school and would see them the following week. The club started the following week and gradually got busier and now there is a waiting list to join. The decisions are all taken by the group and the first thing we planned was a cinema night where we all chose a DVD to watch, and ate popcorn, we also decided to wear onesies that night. On following weeks we made up a set of official rules, did some parkour tricks on to giant beanbags, street dancing, and made Harlem shake and Gangnam style videos. We have all now started to pay ÂŁ1 each week which goes into a fund that we can use to do things, and we all want to go ice skating and maybe get an instructor to teach us. Our group have recently been asked by the council to create ideas and designs for how we would like to redecorate and change the 2 rooms we use, which we need to finish. We use 2 rooms at the community however some of the equipment is getting old and we would like to apply for funding to replace it. The youth workers have also helped educate us with displays and packs on piercings, tattoos, alcohol, tobacco and drugs.It is a great club, interesting, friendly, with a mix of activities and education, and the youth workers are amazing.

Under 12s Activities at Dyce Community Centre by Volunteer Sam Norrie We offer a variety of activities for Under 12s in a safe and friendly environment. With an array of age appropriate toys and a role play section, we offer stimulation and excitement for your child. There are activities that include Messy Play, crafts, and sociable activities and with sessions throughout the school term and school holidays, Dyce Community Centre Under 12s Activities has something for all to enjoy. These sessions are completely run and organised by our dedicated volunteers who are fully PVG checked, approachable and are on hand should you require any help or information. Under 5s sessions require parental/carer supervision whilst activities for P1 to P7 are supervised by volunteers so parents are not required to stay.

Lifelong Learning - Adults Lifelong Learning provide access to a range of learning opportunities. The Team delivers services which include assistance with: • Reading • Writing and Numbers • Basic Computing • Basic English for Speakers of other languages • Healthy Eating • Cooking and Budgeting • Building Confidence and Self Esteem • Getting back into learning • Getting back into paid work or volunteering • Life skills and becoming involved as a parent. The service provides access to accredited qualifications . This currently includes the delivery of Core Skills, Employability and Volunteering Awards. The Rowett Institute The University of Aberdeen Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health joined the Dyce Learning Partnership in 2012. Based in Bucksburn, we are invested in our local community and the learning partnership offers a platform to engage with community members. The scientific research at the Rowett Institute aims to address some of the most compelling contemporary problems in nutrition. Our research contributes not only to new scientific knowledge, but also to new understanding to underpin Government policies and to inform innovation for industry leading to increased economic growth.
Events in the Community We are keen to engage people with our science and work with a wide range of different audiences. Dyce and Stoneywood Community Council Meets every 6 weeks 7 - 9pm at Dyce Community Centre (term time) Community Councils were introduced in 1975 (under the Local Government Scotland Act 1973) to gather public opinion and pass these opinions on to local authorities and other public sector bodies. The term of office for Community Councils is 3 years, with the next elections due to take place in October 2015. The purpose of Community Councils is to give local people a say in matters such as; Planning Applications, Transport, Leisure and Recreation Provision, Roads and Street Lighting, Local Amenities/Community Halls, Educational Provision, Local and Structure Plans Local Traditions and Community Identity.
