Integral Multidecks WHAT IS A MULTIDECK?

Known by many different names (open front chiller, refrigerated shelves and dairy case are just a few) multidecks are multi shelf chillers designed to offer maximum merchandising space while taking up a minimum amount of floor space in the outlet. There are two common types of multideck;

MULTIDECK FEATURES Common features include;

• Adjustable shelves – height and angle can be adjusted to suit different sizes products. • Shelf strengtheners – stops the shelf from “bowing” under the weight of heavy goods • Perspex Risers – Keeps displays neat and tidy and stops product from falling off the shelf • EPOS Ticket Strips – displays for price and point of sale material • Canopy Lighting – illuminates the contents from the top • Pillar Lighting – illuminates the contents from the sides • Digital Controller – easy temperature control and digital display of current temperature • Night Blind – helps save energy and money during non opening hours All of these add value to any multideck and you should pick a model which features the majority of these. TEMPERATURE RANGES

ARE THESE CHILLERS NOISY? While not being totally silent the latest integral multidecks offer significantly reduced sound levels which very quickly become inaudible in a busy store.

Knowing exactly what you are going to display in your multideck is key when picking the correct model as many items require different storage temperatures.

When looking at temperature ranges two figures will be shown, a lower figure and a higher figure. These are not constant temperatures at which the chiller can be set but temperature ranges within which the chiller will operate during the cooling and defrosting cycles.

DO THEY PRODUCE HEAT IN THE STORE? By the nature of refrigeration heat is a byproduct. Integral multidecks will produce a small amount of heat in your store and in the summer months you may notice an increase in store temperature. Similarly in the winter months you may find that you do not need to use store heating quite as much too.

Beers, wines and spirits These products need to be kept at around 2°C to 10°C and this falls into the 3M2 temperature category.

HOW MUCH ENERGY DO THEY CONSUME? Integral multidecks can be very energy efficient – The Capital Troy, for example, is one of the cheapest to run offering savings of over 34% when compared to other, similar sized multidecks.

Milk and dairy produce Dairy products need more control than beers wines and spirits and need to be kept within 1°C to 7°C. Again this will fall within the 3M2 temperature category. Pre packaged deli and snacks Sandwiches, soft drinks, savouries and prepacked cooked meats also fall into the 3M2 category.

DO THEY COME WITH GLASS DOORS? Not as standard, but all models can have glass doors fitted as an option. Please contact our team to discuss versions and costs.

Fresh meat If you are looking to display fresh meat then a chiller which is capable of 3M1 temperatures is required. This means that it will operate between -2°C and +2°C and no higher or lower.

With a remote system there are two key elements – the display chiller which goes inside the store and the refrigeration engineering which is usually placed outside the store. The two are connected with a series of pipes and controls and because of this installation can

SYSTEM CONSIDERATIONS

ARE ALL REMOTE CONDENSING UNITS THE SAME? No, like most things you get what you pay for. Lower quality units are more likely to break down and cost more to run. Also you need to be sure that the condensing unit matches the case, many people cut costs by using a lower quality, lower duty condensing unit.

Knowing exactly what you are going to display in your multideck is key when picking the correct model as many items require different storage temperatures. When looking at temperature ranges two figures will be shown, a lower figure and a higher figure. These are not constant temperatures at which the chiller can be set but temperature ranges within which the chiller will operate during the cooling and defrosting cycles. Beers, wines and spirits These products need to be kept at around 2°C to 10°C and this falls into the 3M2 temperature category.

DO I NEED PLANNING PERMISSION? Yes, if you are placing a condensing unit outside your store there is a high chance that you will require planning permission. ARE REMOTE SYSTEMS NOISY? In store – no, they are almost silent. Outside – the condenser does create some noise, this can be countered by using an acoustic housing which will dampen the sound.

Milk and dairy produce Dairy products need more control than beers wines and spirits and need to be kept within 1°C to 7°C. Again this will fall within the 3M2 temperature category.

CAN I ADD GLASS DOORS? Yes, all of our models are available with energy saving glass doors as a factory fit option.

Pre packaged deli and snacks Sandwiches, soft drinks, savouries and prepacked cooked meats also fall into the 3M2 category. Fresh meat If you are looking to display fresh meat then a chiller which is capable of 3M1 temperatures is required. This means that it will operate between -2°C and +2°C and no higher or lower.

Key questions to ask yourself include; • What products do I want to display and is this likely to change? • How much space do I have? • What colour will suit my store?

Display chillers provide efficient ways of showcasing large quantities of chilled produce which make it easy for the customer to purchase. They come in many different shapes and sizes to suit all needs and they are designed to improve impulse purchases.

CANOPY LIGHTING – branded and illuminated canopies can draw customers to the contents of the chiller and improve impulse purchases.

A serve over is a refrigerated counter which acts as both a display chiller and a store counter. Most commonly found in butchers, deli’s, sandwich shops and fast food outlets serve overs are available in a wide range of sizes and styles as well as temperature ranges to suit each requirement. Serve over counters need to satisfy the needs of two groups – the customer who wants to see the available produce and the user – who wants easy access and an abundance of working space. Like multidecks, serve over cases can be supplied with integral or remote refrigeration systems depending on requirements.

WHAT IS A DISPLAY FREEZER?

Simply put, it is a freezer which allows you to display large quantities of frozen food in store.

Display freezers can have glass doors or sliding glass lids and feature either remote or integral refrigeration systems. Many of the Capital Cooling display freezers have been designed to compliment and match models from the display chiller and multideck ranges, allowing you to build up a store which is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
