GETTING BACK TO BUSINESS

ith the festive season now firmly behind us, this issue of City Views acknowledges that the Central City is not only back in the full swing of things, but that the start of each new year is the time to gear up for the months ahead. To get your proverbial “house” in order, this issue is packed with useful information (pgs 6-7) on where to Get. Things. Done. From having new keys cut or your shoes mended, to hiring tools for DIY, you’ll find everything you need right here in the CBD. And the best of it is that our article gives you just a taste of what’s available. There are even more services to find on our “Explore our CBD” link on our website (www.capetowncid.co.za).

We know that many of you make a long commute into town each day, often coming in very early or staying on after work to beat the trafﬁc. So, on pg 4, we’ve listed a host of early morning coffee shops that open from 06h30 onwards, while on pg 5, we tackle the other end of the day, bringing you ideas for spending an extra hour (or more!) in town after work, from

venues to meet friends for a drink or a movie to learning a new language or even how to salsa. While many of us have become accustomed to seeing film crews in our CBD, there was quite a bit of excitement around Church Square early in January when one crew turned the area (as well as other public squares in town) into a field full of plants and flowers for an international biscuit commercial (see left.) The best part was that the production company kindly donated many of the plants post the shoot to the CCID, and we’ve used them to beautify the island in DF Malan Street . Our sincere thanks to Lobster Tree Productions for this generous donation. Indeed, the year started on a particularly high note for the CCID

WOMAN ZONE PROJECT WALKS THE TALK

Launched in December 2013, Woman Zone is a movement designed to bring together all women from the Mother City’s cultural kaleidoscope. It’s first (and ongoing) project is the Women’s Walk and Talk route through the Central City – an

opportunity to explore part of the CBD from a woman’s perspective, taking in over 40 destinations identified by a WOMAN ZONE sticker, that have significance to the power of women. The route through the Central City is a circular one starting at the District Six

Homecoming Centre and ending at Charly’s Bakery, but you can pick it up and finish it at any point. The purpose is for women to walk – and talk – the route with other women, residents or visitors, and share their experiences. Details of the route are on
