36 CRAZYFISTS

I36 Crazyfists is an American metalcore band that was formed in Anchorage, Alaska in 1994 (later relocating to Portland, Oregon) The band's name is derived from the Hong Kong martial arts film "36 Crazy Fists". The original members of the band were Brock Lindow on vocals, Steve Holt and Ryan Brownell on guitars, JD Steward on bass, and Thomas Noonan on drums.

36 Crazyfists gained recognition with the release of their debut album, "Bitterness the Star," in 2002 The album received positive reviews and showcased the band's unique blend of heavy and melodic elements. They continued to release albums throughout the years, including "A Snow Capped Romance" in 2004 and "Rest Inside the Flames" in 2006. In 2008 they released “The tide and its takers”, then “Collisions and Castaways” in 2010, “Time and Trauma” in 2015 finally, in 2017 their 7th album “Lanterns”. Even though it is claimed that the musical style of 36 Crazyfists is heavily influenced by both metalcore and post-hardcore genres, I would say that both metalcore and post-hardcore are heavily influenced by 36 Crazyfists. The band started when Nu-metal was at the top of its popularity, and no-one was even talking about metalcore as sub-genre of metal. They were standing out among other band from that era because they were blending metalcore intensiveness, with numetal groove and melodic power of what is now known as posthardcore. Their sound is characterized by aggressive guitar riffs, melodic elements, and intense vocals. Brock’s delivery is very characteristic with a unique vibrato – you hear it once and then you know it’s him whenever you hear the voice again.

The band's music often explores themes of personal struggles, emotional turmoil, and resilience. They have been known for their energetic live performances and passionate delivery of their songs.
