FEBRUARY 2020 #2 MAGAZINEFREE

Welcome to MyTattooInc

When i look back to the day where we launched the first magazine in Los Angeles and quickly try to analyze what exactly happened since day one. Then I am smiling indeed. My first goal was to have around 25.000 global readers and today when I write this welcome text for the second magazine I realize that we hit 126.000 global readers today (31st of January). 5 times bigger than my first goal setting. This tells me that this magazine will soon be marching into a number of readers many magazines would love to have.

This also gives me an energy beyond imagination. Since we launched the team behind the making has grown and we have been focusing on many new things we didn’t had time for when we started so another amazing development for sure.

I hope you enjoy the artist features and our convention coverage. This launch is at the famous Milano Tattoo Convention and to be a part of this one when they celebrate their 25th anniversary is awesome.

The next issue will be ready for you all in the end of May and I can promise you that the next one (It will be a spec. edition with 100 pages) will be an awesome experience and yes the online magazine will always be a free magazine. Enjoy!

HOW OLD WHERE YOU?

I was 17 years old. It was in the late 1970s back when tattooing was illegal in New York City. The artist was a young man named Mike Perfetto. His tattoo studio was basically a spare room he utilized in the apartment he lived in. This was in a section of Brooklyn known as Bensonhurst.

FAVORITE TATTOO STYLE?

Black & Gray. I think because it seems to hold together  better over time compared to color. I also have a thing for photo realism. When the image is executed properly it can bare a soul that  transcends the skin itself. Like magic.

PREFERED TATTOO ARTIST?

This is a tough question to answer. I have several friends who are all very talented artists. I will list them all. Mark Mahoney, (Shamrock Social Club) Steven Hullander, (Paragon Tattoos), Mike Perfetto (Brooklyn Mike) Steve Smith, (Ace Tattoo) Chris Garver, (Miami Ink) Patch Merill, (Hotrod Tattoo)

WOMEN WITH INK

I think women with ink makes sense and I’m grateful for the shift in consciousness.

Years ago it was very difficult for me out in public and in social situations. I found myself to be the focal point of ridicule by all sorts of people from many walks of life. I never imagined a future where my appearance would almost seem common place when examined by the young people who mark this time in history.

So, whether its women or men, and anyone in between, who indulge themselves without restrictions for the sake of art & Ink, I welcome it.

PRISON BREAK

I never watched the show Prison Break. So I cannot speak to the character you mentioned. I do recognize the trend in Hollywood now to create the illusion of tattoos on actor’s who do not actually have them. This is necessary for certain kinds of story telling that requires the characters to have specific types of tattoos.

I’m not convinced, yet, that the writers who are employed by mainstream entertainment always convey an accurate depiction of people with ink. Fiction or not. There is still a tendency to trivialize or demonize tattooed people who do not fit within the framework of the Hollywood fantasy.

TATTOO OLE THE WORLD´S OLDEST TATTOO PARLOR STILL IN OPERATION

When you jump in the chair at tattoo-ole in Nyhavn you join a skided row of rough sailors, easyliving ladies, nervous privates and even also one King in the 50ies (at Tattoo-ole) , who have been under the needle in this small room since at least 1884.

Tattoo-ole in Nyhavn 17 cellar is the Worlds oldest tattoo parlor still in operation.

The building Nyhavn 17 is from year 1670 and protected and have through times been area of lots of different types of people.

In the old days Nyhavn was center of drunken sailors, prostitutes, criminals and other goodfolkes, it was the rough part of Copenhagen.

The tattoo parlor we can as erlier written date at least back to 1884 and maybe longer.

The tattoo parlor is recommended extremely conservation-worthy by Copenhagen Museum but unfortunately not protected by law and have caused that as writing this we have a court case going on with the landlord who want to close the tattoo parlor and include the rooms in their restaurant business. The case was won by the tattoo shop in 2019 in city-court but landlord appealed for higher court so we now wait for that to come at the 12th of February 2020. So we are very exited to finally hear this courts word since this have been going on more than 3 years now.

Back in 1884 there was also tobacco shop in the shop and the tattoo part was going on in the corner at a small table.

History says that long before that there was tattooing going on in Nyhavn 17 in the restaurant and the other restaurants in Nyhavn there at the time were pubs. It was not hard to get a place to tattoo in the pubs as the bar keeper had more sale on alcohol and beer as curious people came to se the tattoo going on. It was not easy to get equipment at the time and also a special kind of people who wanted tattoos these days.

It was either hand poked or with very simpel electrical machine driven by a small battery. The tattoo artists normally had a small wooden box for the battery and the equipment so it was easy to cary around from place to place and do their ‘art’.

Since year 1919 the shop have only been used for tattoo parlor starting with Hans Hansen. From there it has been going from hand to hand and never have been closed only at renovation or artists sick or vacation.

The first artist in Nyhavn 17 we know about is as earlier written Hans Hansen and after that Peter Severin had the shop during the 20 es and tattoo-Holger in the 30 es and probably some more we do not know about. After that tattoo-Jack whom is still a legend took over the parlor. He was above of his time with his nice colorful drawings and designs. Jack and his family, wife and 3 kids lived in the small rooms there about 30 squarem ters at the time. It was really tight living these days in the cites. In 1947 Jack has to go to Prison and he wants Ole to look after the shop but Ole refuse the offer, he wants to buy and take over the parlor.

Jack after some arguing finally give up and let Ole take over the parlor and thats why the shop ever since 1947 have the name Tattoo-Ole. Ole runs the shop 41 years untill 1988 where he unfortunately dies of lung-cancer only 62 years old. But as maybe all of Oles costumers remember he smoke a lot a lot of cigarettes so guess not so strange he got the cancer and in these days it was almost a sure dead with the lung-cancer. Oles partner and right hand in Many years Danny Hansen takes over together with “Bimbo” (Jørgen Konsol Torstenson) that was at the time working at Tattoo-Jack in Jack’s new shop in Nyhavn 37.

The 2 of them worked together for a while until Danny choose to go back to Germany where he had been working before also and Bimbo choose to run the shop alone.

In spring 2008 a girl drops in the shop and tells Bimbo that she wants to work in the shop as the first girl, the girl is Majbritt Petersen (lille-ole ). He agree under the terms that if she will learn the Old-School technic and drawing from him and Majbritt agrees this. And they works together until 2010 where Bimbo much to early suddenly past away only 60 years old and Majbritt only 30 years old and with a baby 1 year old have to take over the old shop and really fight to keep it open and she still is and hopefully also after the court the 12.02.2020.

It has been 10 years Majbritt have been fighting for the old old shop as she thinks it will be another great lost of culture for Copenhagen and Denmark if we loose this ionic culture treasure. One day in 2015 her friend Thomsen is so uncarefully to say he wants to help her a little bit in the shop and ever since things have going very well with a superstar of gods mercy around... In Hanky Pankys tattoo museum in Amsterdam there is some things and history from the shop and in Denmark there is a lot of history and things about Nyhavn and tattoo in the “sailor and ship museum” (søfartsmuseum) in castle Kronborg in Helsingør.

Thank you very very much to the ones took the time to read this and hope it have given you interest to drop by the shop either to feel history or get a eternal memory tattooed, all are more than Welcome.

QUESTIONS TO NOELIN WHEELER

1) What is your favorite tattoo brand?

I’ve been really impressed with Radiant Tattoo ink, Kwadron Needles and Platinum Rose ointment.

2) What is the most wired/embarrassing thing, you have tried while tattooing?

The weirdest thing I’ve tattooed was an anchor under this guys finger nail. I guess he lost the nail after hitting it with a hammer so he wanted it tattooed. I swear it hurt me to tattoo it as much as it did for him to get it!

3) How did you got in to be a tattoo artist?

I walked into a small tattoo shop in Alaska when I was 18, from there I had made friends with a couple of the artist and just sorta fell into it. I was always into art and I had finally found something that really resonated with me.

4) If you wasn’t a tattoo artist, what else would you do for a living?

I could see myself as a travel guide, taking people on adventures outdoors or tattoo equipment builder, I love designing and modifying current equipment to make it better.

5) Dogs or cats?

Sphynx cat!

6) Favorite tattoo style, and the worst tattoo style for you?

Love working in color Surrealism, I really like to create unique pieces that are outside of the box. And as far as the worst tattoos? I’m not really all the comfortable with traditional tattoos, I’m not very experienced with it.

From Denmark we present STATEMENT...

A high octane hard rock / heavy metal machine, coming from Copenhagen, and are about to take you by storm.

With their fantastic melodies and cool sound, they are a great excuse to drive fast, drink beer and have a great party. I know, cause I’ve been there... Hellyeah…

STATEMENT is a five piece band that consists of :

Lead vocal - Jannick Brochdorf

Lead guitar/vocal - Niels Alex Larsen

Guitars/vocal - Lars Ulrik Le Fevre

Bass - Martin Poulsen

Drums - Daniel Nielsen

With a great sound and fantastic melodic compositions, these guys have made one of the best rocking albums, coming out of Denmark in 2019, named “Force of Life”..

This is their 3rd album, and was produced in the famous Medley studios by Søren Andersen, and he managed to capture the essence of the band, with a fantastic sound and drive, you rarely hear in these kind hard rock productions, very professional..

So have yourself a great party with this hard rock, with a touch of metal, these guys are definitely worth a try, that’s for sure..

Remember, music is a force of life…

AMON AMARTH… Out of Sweden comes these vikings, taking over the world..

With thunder, lightning and loud metal they conquer new ground every night, with an extraordinary show, at stages worldwide.. This 5 piece band, started out in 1992 and consist of:

Johan Hegg - vocals

Olavi Mikkonen - lead guitar

Ted Lundström - bass

Johan Söderberg - rhythm guitar

Jocke Wallgren - drums

They play a kind of melodic viking metal with, off course, some great viking lyrics and sounds, which have made them the biggest and most popular viking metal band, in the world.

Personally i love this band. The music, the sound and the viking theme, makes it a perfect match for some hard hitting, loud, but still melodic and epic metal, perfectly executed by these 5 guys.

Their latest album, Berserker, was released in May 2019, and is a fantastic gathering of 12 great tracks, with both hard up tempo, sing along and groovy metal, like only AMON AMARTH can do it.

Therefore, if you are into the harder end of heavy metal, and maybe have an interest in the viking mythology, i can only recommend you do it the viking way, with AMON AMARTH… SKÁL..
