our security professionals, follow industry safety protocols and best practices to continue keeping our employees, communities and plants safe.”
“The safety and security of our employees, our plants and our communities are our top priority,” the statement said.
On Friday, the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that parish authorities are “investigating a rash of unidentified drone sightings reported over the last two weeks.”
Entergy’s River Bend Station nuclear plant is located in the parish.
“According to Sheriff Brian Spillman, the reports indicate the objects are as large as five feet in diameter and have been seen flying in areas near critical infrastructure,” the sheriff’s office release says. “Eyewitnesses have also reported seeing multiple objects flying simultaneously, indicating that the flights may be coordinated.”
Sheriffs’ deputies have observed flying objects at altitudes from 200 to over 500 feet.
“The suspected drones tend to hover over certain areas for extended periods and then disappear into the night. All reports to date have been at night,” the release said Spillman said the sheriff’s office does not believe the drone sightings represent a public safety concern or

Dreher, a retired Entergy executive, said about 1,000 workers built the nearby River Bend nuclear power plant without causing a housing crisis in the parish. Most of the workers lived within 50 miles of the plant and commuted daily he said. Tettrel said the company plans to build on an “aggressive timeline” to finish one of the structures this year and the other during
a hostile threat to people or property
Nonetheless, he called them “very concerning” and said they’re being treated “as a criminal violation” since the sightings occurred where drone flight is prohibited.
The sheriff’s office is working with local, state and federal partners on the investigation, Spillman said.
On Friday a St. Charles Parish spokesperson said parish authorities have not received reports of drone activity over Entergy’s Waterford 3 plant, which is located there.
No investigations into drone activity are ongoing, the spokesperson said. Drone mitigation confusion
Attorney General Liz Murrill said she will provide Spillman and other public officials assistance on drone matters as needed.
“Federal law does not prohibit public safety officials from taking action that they deem appropriate to address the threat,” Murrill said in a statement.
“The fact that it may be aviation related activity does not impact this authority What’s most important is that the threat is eliminated.”
Landry on Friday said ambiguity in the law related to drone mitigation has created stumbling blocks, but ultimately the state has the authority to act if need be.
“I believe, and if I have to, I am within my legal authority to have the State Police or authorize any law
2026. The center will include a closed-loop cooling system that will draw water from an existing well on the property
Tettrel initially said the cooling system will be filled with 9 million gallons of water to start operations, but after parish resident Harvey Stern questioned the plant’s effect on the area’s main water supply aquifer Tettrel corrected himself, saying the system will need 900,000 gallons of water to begin. He said a closed-loop cooling system is better

enforcement agency to take a drone down if I believe it’s a danger to the public,” he said.
FAA authorization to mitigate drones at the state level would help avoid a legal battle and problems stemming from ambiguity in the law he said.
In a statement Friday, the FAA said, “Congress gave certain federal agencies authority to counter credible threats from drones.”
Those agencies include the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security and Department of Energy
The FAA did not respond to a question on Friday about the authority of state-level law enforcement agencies to counter drone threats.
It did emphasize that it is illegal under federal law to shoot at an aircraft.
“A private citizen shooting at any aircraft including unmanned aircraft poses a significant safety hazard,” the statement said. “An unmanned aircraft hit by gunfire could crash, causing damage to persons or property on the ground, or it could collide with other objects in the air.”
Asked if he is worried that drones present a possible safety or national security threat, Landry replied, “100%.”
“Those are the things that keep me up at night,” he said. “There is a huge gap in security when it comes to drones.”

than one that consumes large amounts of water on a continuous basis because of the area’s warm climate. The computer servers and cooling system will be powered from Entergy’s electrical grid, but not with a direct connection to the nuclear plant. Future expansion of the facility will depend on the availability of additional electrical power Tettrel said. He said the data center will be quieter than River Bend. “We don’t expect noise being a problem at all,” he said.
