AT HOME: From food to remodeling

Celebrating its10thanniversary,the Home &Remodeling Show with Ralph’sMarket Food Fest welcomed attendees Jan. 2526 at Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales.

JAAS Productions andlocal grocer Ralph’sMarket hosted the event featuring more than 50 home improvement and food vendors.

The popular annual expo featured the latest innovations in home improvement including kitchen, bathroomsexteriorremodeling solutions and siding options.

Free food samples, tastings, and coupons from over 30 food brands werealsohanded out.

Attendees sampled theRalph’s Market’s bakery’s variousking cakes, cheese boards,aswell as fried catfish and chicken and sausage gumbo.

Shelbi Metrejeansaid the event is the perfect time to introduce customers to the bakery’sking cakes such as the Brownie Walnut Cream Cheese, Mississippi Mud, and other specialoccasion cakes.

“I love this expo,” Metrejean said. “A lot of people tell me they came to look at thehomeexpo andended up going to thefood

vendors and buying what they were selling.”

Ivana Coleman, event table serverfor Ralph’s, said the event reminded her of eventsshe’sexperienced back home in New Orleans.

“I’veworked at many expos for 12 years,” Coleman said. “Today’sevent is beautiful, and the food is amazing.

“I love the mixture of food vendors and the homeexpo. I’m from New Orleansand this is exactly what we do there. We mix up everything.”

“We’ve come to meet potentialclientsand this hasbeen an interesting expo,” Rebecca Gardner,senior closet designer with Inspired Closets said. “We’ve been to afew New Orleans expos, as well. This one has had asteady stream of people interested.”

Inspired Closets offers custom closet andstorage designs. The business is based in Baton Rouge and has clients from other parishes as well.

Kristina Petit, closet designer for Inspired Closets, said the expo “gives small businesses achance to be more engaged with potential

clients.”

Trinity Construction Group and Patio Spaces owner Greg Swanson said the expo is good advertising for his Gonzales business.

“This home improvement event draws people in,” Swansonsaid. “It’sgreat for the Ascension Parish population because there’ssomuch growth out here.

“The expo attracted alot of out-of-town people. We’ve talked to peoplefrom Lafayette and St. Francisville.” Toni Swanson, Patio Spaces office manager,saidthe event gave thecompany potential new business opportunities.

“We’ve had quite alot of interest,” Swanson said. “We’ve had people interested in expandingtheir currentspace and building new spaces.” The Lamar-Dixon Expo Center will also host the Louisiana Outdoor Expo from March 14-16.

Cool temperatures and sunny skies welcomed the community after the week’s previous snowstorm.

The fundraising car show also featured raffles, food, children’sactivities and music.

Theeventraised funds for both St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and St. Amant High School’sDistributive Education Club of America chapter Participants perused vehicles while visiting more than two dozen shopping and food booths. Scott Jarreau,local DJ and guitarist, provided musical entertainment.
