COME ALONG AND JOIN US IN THE FANTASTIC WORLD OF THORBJØRN EGNER! No other books have left such an impression on children growing up in Norway as these books have; the songs, the texts and the characters have become national institutions. And because Thorbjørn Egner was both the illustrator and the writer, the relationship between the pictures and texts is bound in a very special way. Very few authors get closer to the child’s imagination than Egner does. Karius og Baktus has also been immortalized in Ivo Caprino’s puppet film, and a full-scale Cardamom Town has been built at Kristiansand Zoo. Not only are Egner’s stories performed on stage in many countries, his books have, to date, been translated into 26 languages. And despite being published more than 50 years ago, they are still as popular as ever. ‘The brilliance of Egner comes from his ability to tell his stories in such a way that children can understand and fantasize about them. THE LION READERS COME AT SEVERAL LEVELS OF DIFFICULTY: LION CUB, 4–7 YEARS In the autumn of 2010 we launched Lion Cubs for 4- to 7-year-olds. The books are printed in capital letters and have only one sentence per page. Perfect for the earliest readers! MY FIRST LION READER, 6–9 YEARS These books suit children who know all the capital letters and can read a little, but still find lower case letters unfamiliar. The text is formulated so that it should be as easy to read as possible and so offer the less practised readers the joy of a wonderful experience: to read a whole book on your own. LION READER, 7–11 YEARS The Lion Readers with their short lines and large letters are made for easy reading. The children will find a subject they care for, be it football, animals, loving somebody or monsters. LION PLUS, 9–12 YEARS Everyone who knows about the Lion readers will quickly find his or her way through the Lion Plus series. The books are created for slightly older children who may have had less reading practice than they need. The text in each book is still quite short and interspersed with illustrations, but the size of the letters is somewhat smaller.

THE PRESS ABOUT BRAGE’S STORY: ‘This is horrifying, thought-provoking and action-packed. ... It is the commonplaceness of this book that makes it so frighteningly powerful. The book is exciting and has action and drive – as well as love. I can’t see why it would not be a hit with young readers of dystopian fiction.’

THIS IS OUR BIGGEST POTENTIAL ACTION STORY FOR EXPORT.

DAGBLADET

‘A serious doomsday novel that pushes the limits of what a young adult book can contain. ... The first part is a credible depiction of the development of a global crisis as seen through Brage’s eyes. It successfully demonstrates how our modern media reality gives everything a sense of the unreal ... It [the picture painted by Brage] is a complex, psychological portrait of a rare and complicated character in Norwegian young adult literature ... It is dark, and it is intense.’
 BARNEBOKKRITIKK.NO

‘Sigbjørn Mostue can write horror that sends chills up your spine. He does the same in this novel, I morgen er alt mørkt.’
 ROMERIKES BLAD

‘Read this book. Be afraid!’ BYAVISA FREDRIKSTAD

THE PRESS ABOUT MARLEN’S STORY: ’The story is like a clenched fist in the stomach, and I would not be surprised if yet another Young People’s Prize for Literature awaits him.’
 DAGBLADET HELGEAVISA

‘Sigbjørn Mostue always writes well, and this fast-moving and absorbing novel is no exception. Marlen’s Story is both entertaining and thought-provoking. Is nature taking such a brutal revenge? Are we facing an unstoppable epidemic?’ ROMERIKES BLAD

‘A virus is creating a pandemic where infected people go mad and attack everybody around. It becomes a struggle between life and death and a moral struggle to make the right choices. … Can it be morally defensible to kill people who are obviously sick? Can social cohesion be maintained in an extreme situation which can easily develop into everybody for himself or herself?’ NRK.NO

YOUNG ADULT FOR AGES 14–18 YEARS

BECAUSE I LOVE YOU Fredrik has the world's biggest smile. He is worldly-wise and always knows what to say. Everyone who meets him is soon captivated. And now he's Elin's boyfriend. Imagine that! It's like landing the lead role in a romantic film. Really, it is. Right up until text messages from Bjørn start arriving. And right up until the worst thing imaginable happens. Fordi jeg elsker deg is Elin's story. A story about love and being in love, and about manipulation, abuse and deceit. Helene Uri has written a book that is touching and shocking, but that also depicts the vulnerability and mood swings of youth. Protagonist Elin is in no way a victim. She is clearheaded and strong and knows what she wants. This only makes the age-old question for abusive relationships all the more valid: why does she stay?

AUTHOR:

HELENE URI TITLE ENGLISH:

BECAUSE I LOVE YOU TITLE NORWEGIAN:

Fordi jeg elsker deg recognises that violence against women is not age-related, and Helene Uri's novel can be read by young adults as well as teenagers.

FORDI JEG ELSKER DEG

‘Because I Love You is a classic young person's novel, in the best sense. It is about love; close bonds between girl friends; relationships between parents and children; feelings which swing between ecstasy and pure fear; the first sexual experiences. It is also about having a power-mad lover, who gradually turns violent. Uri handles these themes gently and credibly as she describes the swings of Elin's emotional pendulum, from intense love to despair, till she doesn't even trust her nearest and dearest.’

PLASTIC WASTE IN THE SEA People first started making plastic out of oil in a large amount in 1950. Paper and apple cores break up quickly in the sea, but plastic doesn't. We're producing more and more plastic every year. Researchers think that there are around 100 million tons of plastic floating around in the sea. This waste, which respects no national borders, is carried away by the ocean currents and distributed over the whole of the earth. In thirty years, there will be more plastic than fish in the sea if we carry on dumping at the same rate as we are now. What can we do?

For eksempel gå oppreist på to bein.

For eksempel liker sjimpansene å leke!
