PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, The International Festival of Life (IFOL) was founded by Jamaican native, Ephraim Martin in 1993 as a vehicle by which to promote the arts, humanities and music of people of the Americas, Africa, and other parts of the world during the Fourth of July Independence Day Weekend in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, The 2015 International Festival of Life will present “Know Your Pan-American and African Heritage” and a “Carnival of Nations,” with cultural displays representing various regions of Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and the U.S., to help educate local youth during the summer; and

WHEREAS, The 2015 International Festival of Life will feature more than 50 diverse, musical acts performing a mix of the world’s music, including Reggae, R&B, Jazz, Gospel, Blues, Latin and other genres; and

WHEREAS, The 2015 International Festival of Life will also offer a range of activities, such as: health screenings, a soccer tournament, Dominoes contests, food vendors, arts and crafts and more; and

WHEREAS, The main goal of IFOL is to produce an event that highlights the accomplishments of people of many nationalities, cultures and ethnic backgrounds, as a way of “Bringing Nations Together” and “Living Together As One;” and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DOROTHY BROWN, CLERK OF THE CIRCUIT COURT OF COOK COUNTY, STATE OF ILLINOIS –FIRST JUDICIAL DISTRICT, and official keeper of records for all judicial matters brought into one of the largest unified court systems in the world, do hereby proclaim July 3-5, 2015 as International Festival of Life weekend in the State of Illinois.
