Welcome to the Capture Benefit Auction 2022! It is with great pleasure that we present the twenty-five works in the first major fundraising auction Capture has produced, in honour of our tenth anniversary. I am so proud of the range of works we are sharing–they are a true reflection of the diversity of artists that have participated in Capture over the years, from emerging to established, local to international. The images are also reflective of the expansive and inventive ways contemporary artists deploy the medium of photography, resulting in portraits, still lifes, found images, collages, and abstractions. Photography is the medium of our time. Its singular capacity to share perspectives, its descriptive power, and its ability to create awareness make it not only a timely format but also a crucial one. The proceeds from this auction will go toward mounting exhibitions, public art projects, talks, and producing our catalogue, all in service of Capture’s mission to connect Vancouver to the world through lensbased art. I am very thankful to our Auction Committee, who gave invaluable advice and support as we brought all the works together; as well as to Capture’s Board of Directors, which is a guiding hand in everything we do. Capture’s small, committed staff is at the core of all of our projects, and I would especially like to acknowledge Jas Lally, our Auction Coordinator, who organized a myriad of moving parts with good humour and grace. I also want to recognize our auction partner, Heffel–we could not have done this without your expertise.
