Curadwyd yr arddangosfa ddeg mlwyddiant (Oriel Wrecsam 6 Hydref - 1 Rhagfyr 2012) a’r cyhoeddiad ôl-syllol hwn gan Gydlynydd y Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol, Jim Creed, ac mae’n dathlu’r artistiaid sydd wedi cyfrannu at lwyddiant y Ganolfan dros y ddegawd diwethaf. Arddangosa amrywiaeth, datblygiad ac arloesedd argraffu fel proses greadigol wrth amlygu gwreiddiau traddodiadol y cyfrwng.

This 10th Birthday retrospective exhibition (Oriel Wrecsam, 6th October - 1st December 2012) and publication has been curated by the Regional Print Centre Co-ordinator Jim Creed and celebrates the artists who have contributed to the success of Centre over the past decade. It showcases the diversity, development and innovation of printmaking as a creative process whilst highlighting the traditional roots of the medium.

Cyflwynir y cyhoeddiad hwn a’r arddangosfa hon i Anna Adair, un o gyd-sylfaenwyr y Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol, a fu farw’n dawel yn ei chartref ar 20 Chwefror 2012 wedi cystudd hir. Roedd Anna’n greiddiol i sefydlu’r Ganolfan yn 2002, wedi iddi lansio arddangosfa wreiddiol Printiau Rhyngwladol Wrecsam yn 2001 a gweld y galw am ganolfan greadigol i argraffwyr yn y rhanbarth. This publication and exhibition is dedicated to Anna Adair, one of the co-founders of the Regional Print Centre, who died peacefully at home after a long illness on the 20th February 2012. Anna was fundamental in the origination of the Centre in 2002, after she initiated the original Wrexham Print International exhibition in 2001 and saw the need for a creative hub for printmakers in the region.

A tribute to a remarkable colleague, friend and fellow printmaker

Hyfforddodd Anna Adair yng Ngholeg Celf Hornsey yn Llundain, ac wedi iddi raddio, ymroddodd ei gyrfa i addysg a hyfforddiant celf. Roedd yn athrawes ysbrydoledig gydag egni a brwdfrydedd diddiwedd am ddarparu addysg a hyfforddiant o ansawdd da. Nid anghofiwyd hi gan unrhyw un â’i cyfarfu gan fod ganddi gymeriad cryf ac arswydlon.

Anna Adair trained at Hornsey College of Art in London and after she graduated dedicated her career to art education and training. She was an inspirational teacher with endless energy and passion for providing quality education and training. Everyone who met her never forgot her, as she had a strong and formidable character.

Anna has left a wonderful legacy at Yale College which reflects her creative passions as an illustrator, printmaker and art historian namely the now well renowned Regional Print Centre which this year celebrates a decade of printmaking. The vision that we both shared to create a facility which would provide opportunities for printmaking to flourish as an art form, developing both the novice and professional alike, is a reality and still thriving.

Yn 2012, dathla’r Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol ei degfed pen-blwydd fel stiwdio mynediad agored sy’n ymroddedig i greu, datblygu a hyrwyddo argraffu.

In 2012 the Regional Print Centre celebrates its tenth Birthday as an open access studio that is dedicated to the creation, development and promotion of printmaking.

Daw’r arddangosfa a’r cyhoeddiad hwn â detholiad o artistiaid argraffu gwahoddedig ac aelodau presennol y Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol at ei gilydd i dalu teyrnged i’r llwyddiant hwn. Arddangosa’r ystod amrywiol o waith sydd wedi ei greu, ei gyfeirio a’i archwilio gan y rheiny sydd wedi bod yn rhan o siwrne’r Ganolfan dros y ddeg mlynedd diwethaf.

This exhibition and publication brings together a selection of invited print artists and current Regional Print Centre members to honour this achievement. It showcases the diverse range of work that has been created, referenced and explored by those who have been part of the Centre’s journey over the past ten years.

The concept of establishing a publicly accessible printmaking studio in Wrexham first emerged after the success of the original Wrexham Print International exhibition in 2001 which took place at the Memorial Gallery, Yale College and Wrexham Arts Centre, now Oriel Wrecsam. Yale College Art Lecturers Anna Adair and Luci Melegari, who initiated the exhibition, saw the potential of utilising the College’s print studio as an open access facility for artists in the North Wales area.

As a result the Regional Print Centre was founded in 2002 with support from Yale College, Wrexham and the Arts Council of Wales, a strong partnership that still continues to sustain the project.

facility from its original initiation until 2010. During this period the Centre conducted a vast range of exciting and engaging projects including open access opportunities, artists led workshops, professional courses and an array of exhibitions. Notably achievements include the development of a Professional Printmaking course, international artists residencies, and exhibitions such as Aspects of Landscape, a hospital touring exhibition in partnership with Denbighshire Arts Service, and Le Chéile, a collaboration between artists from the Regional Print Centre, and the Leinster Printmaking studio, Clane, Co. Kildare, which toured venues in North Wales and Australia. The activities that took place during this period not only promoted the work of individual artists but also helped to raise the profile of the Regional Print Centre on a local, national and international level. 2010 saw a change at the Centre when Jim Creed was appointed as the new Regional Print Centre Coordinator alongside Print Tutor Greg Fuller after Steffan Jones-Hughes took up a position at the Arts Council England. Since then the Centre has continued to work with a range of artists offering a supportive hub and studio space for anyone who utilises print within their practice. The Centre has also built on its previous work with the local community by offering printmaking workshops at events such as the National Eisteddfod in the summer of 2011 and as part of the Criw Celf project which is an art club for children who have shown talent and/or a special interest in art.

2011 also saw the Centre curate exhibitions of work from Yale College’s Paul Peter Piech collection, a successful Print Symposium event, and the launch of the Regional Print Centre’s official bilingual website which now acts as a portal to promote upcoming printmaking events and activities. The Regional Print Centre’s future is full of exciting opportunities to develop printmaking activities and events in and around North Wales by working collaboratively with artists, galleries and other institutions. There is also the exciting prospect of raising the profile of printmaking on a national level by working in conjunction with the other main open access printmaking studios in Wales notably Aberystwyth, Cardiff and Swansea.

The Regional Print Centre believes that by supporting artists on both a practical and creative level in a professional and well equipped printmaking studio, leads to the production of interesting artworks and encourages collaborative project opportunities. This is also echoed by many of the comments and recommendations made by the exhibiting artists in this publication, many of whom make reference to the Regional Print Centre as a creative studio space and the high level of support they receive due to the facilities, staff and network of associated artists who utilise the Centre.

Anna Adair Hyfforddodd Anna yng Ngholeg Celf Hornsey yn niwedd yr 1950au ac, yn ystod gyrfa addysgu hir, lluniodd brintiau a gwaith celf arbrofol a oedd yn adlewyrchu diddordeb mewn tirwedd a ffurfiau naturiol. Trwy gydol ei gyrfa addysgol, bu Anna’n dysgu mewn ysgolion a cholegau yn Llundain a Chymru a daeth yn Uwch Ddarlithydd mewn Astudiaethau Hanesyddol a Beirniadol yn Ysgol Celf a Dylunio Coleg Iâl. Roedd ganddi ddiddordeb penodol mewn defnyddio argraffu mewn addysg a arweiniodd yn ei dro at sefydlu’r Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol yn 2001 a’i ddatblygiad pellach.

Anna Adair trained at Hornsey College of Art in the late 1950’s and during a long teaching career produced prints and experimental artworks that reflected an interest in landscape and natural forms. Throughout her teaching career Anna taught at schools and colleges in London and Wales and became the Senior Lecturer in Historical and Critical Studies at Yale College School of Art and Design. She was particularly interested in the use of printmaking in education which subsequently led to the formation and development of the Regional Print Centre in 2002.

Gerry Baptist Ganwyd Gerry Baptist yn Lahore ym 1935 i rieni Portiwgeaidd/Saesneg ac fe’i haddysgwyd yn yr India ac yn Lloegr. Dylanwadodd plentyndod Gerry’n arwyddocaol ar ei fywyd fel artist gan iddo gael ei fagu yng nghanol sŵn, lliwiau ac egni’r India drofannol. Roedd cartref ei rieni’n llawn o bob math o bethau: pentyrrau o lyfrau, cylchgronau a chomics, offerynnau cerdd, lluniau a deunyddiau darlunio a oedd yn golygu bod ei ddiddordebau wedi eu llunio pan oedd yn ifanc iawn.

Gerry Baptist was born in Lahore in 1935 of Portuguese/English parents and educated in India and England. Gerry’s childhood significantly influenced his life as an artist as he grew up surrounded by the sounds, colours and energy of tropical India. His parent’s home was full of all kinds of stuff; piles of books, magazines and comics, musical instruments, pictures and drawing materials so it meant that from a very early age his interests were fashioned.

Wedi mynychu ysgol gelf yn Ysgol Celf Walthamstow ac Ysgol Argraffu Llundain, treuliodd Gerry rai blynyddoedd yn gyfarwyddwr celf ym maes hysbysebu, gan weithio yn Lloegr ac yn yr Almaen. Rhoddodd y gwaith hwnnw gipolwg gwerthfawr iddo i waith graffeg, ffotograffiaeth a phob dull o argraffu. Mae Gerry wedi bod yn paentio ac yn argraffu am dros 20 mlynedd.

After art school at Walthamstow School of Art and The London School of Printing, Gerry spent some years as an art director in advertising working in England and Germany. The work gave him a valuable insight into graphics, photography and all forms of printmaking. Gerry has been painting and printmaking for over 20 years.

Ann Bridges Dechreuodd profiad Ann Bridges mewn argraffu pan oedd yn 12 oed ac yn mynychu dosbarthiadau bore Sadwrn i blant Ngholeg Celf Hastings (1972-1975).

Ann Bridges’ printmaking experience started when she was 12 years old at Junior Saturday morning classes at Hastings Art College (19721975).

Atgyfodwyd y diddordeb hwn mewn argraffu pan oedd yn fyfyriwr aeddfed ar gwrs Sylfaen BTEC mewn Celf yng Ngholeg Iâl, Wrecsam a pharhaodd yn NEWI (Prifysgol Glyndŵr bellach) lle datblygodd Ann dechneg monobrintio/stensil wrth astudio Darlunio.

This interest in printmaking was renewed as a mature student on the BTEC Art Foundation course at Yale College, Wrexham, and continued at NEWI (now Glyndwr University) where Ann developed a monoprint/stencil technique while studying Illustration.

Wedi iddi raddio (BA gydag Anrhydedd Dosbarth 1af mewn Dylunio, 1999), gweithiodd Ann fel Artist Preswyl yn Sw Caer (1999-2001). Mae ei gwaith yn parhau i gynnwys Preswyliadau, Gwaith Comisiwn, Arddangosfeydd a Phrosiectau Addysgol.

Following graduation (BA 1st Class Hons in Design, 1999) Ann worked as Artist in Residence at Chester Zoo (1999-2001). Her work continues to include Residencies, Commissions, Exhibitions and Educational Projects.

Mae Elizabeth Cadd wedi ei lleoli yn ardal wledig Gogledd Sir Amwythig lle mae’n gweithio fel gweithiwr coetir ac artist. Arlunydd dyfrlliw hunan ddysgedig ydyw, a chaiff ei hysbrydoli gan harddwch y byd naturiol. Fel rheol, bydd Elizabeth yn paentio yn yr awyr agored wrth grwydro yn y wlad, gan gipio awyrgylch a lliwiau’r tymhorau. Mae’n mwynhau gwaith ffigurol ac mae wedi dechrau cyfuno elfennau’r ffigur yn ei gwaith mwyaf diweddar gyda rhyddid llinell a marcio achlysurol. Galluoga argraffu i Elizabeth archwilio ei brasluniau mewn dull gwahanol ond yr un mor chwareus.

Elizabeth Cadd is based in rural North Shropshire where she works as a woodland worker and artist. She is a self taught watercolour artist, inspired by the beauty of the natural world. Elizabeth usually paints outdoors on rambles in the countryside, capturing the atmosphere and colours of the seasons. She enjoys figurative work and has begun to combine elements of the figure in her recent work with a freedom of line and accidental mark making. Printmaking enables Elizabeth to explore her sketches in a different but equally playful way.

Dilynodd Frances Carlile gwrs Diploma mewn Argraffu Proffesiynol yn y Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol rhwng 2009 and 2010. Dechreuodd argraffu i ymhelaethu’r darluniau a wnaeth ar y cyd â cherflunwaith. Bellach, mae’n rhan sylweddol o’i gwaith.

Frances Carlile took the Professional Printmaking Diploma at the Regional Print Centre between 2009 and 2010. She started printmaking to extend her drawings made in conjunction with sculpture. It has now become a significant part of her practice.

Paul Coldwell Mae Paul Coldwell yn Athro mewn Celfyddyd Gain ym Mhrifysgol y Celfyddydau Llundain, swydd sydd wedi bod ganddo ers 2001. Canolbwytia ei waith ar themâu teithiau, absenoldeb a cholled a chânt eu harchwilio trwy gerflunwaith, printiau, llyfrau artistiaid a gosodiadau ac fe’u gwelir mewn nifer o gasgliadau cyhoeddus yn y DU a thramor. Cynhelir arddangosfa arolwg o’i brintiau yn Oriel 3, Prifysgol Caint, Caergaint ym mis Ionawr 2013. Yn ogystal â hynny, mae wedi curadu nifer o arddangosiadau gan gynnwys Etifeddiaeth Morandi: Dylanwadau ar Gelf Prydain yn 2006 ac wedi cyhoeddi erthyglau ar artistiad amrywiol gan gynnwys Michael Craig-Martin, Christiane Baumgartner a Paula Rego. Paul Coldwell is Professor of Fine Art at the University of the Arts London, a position he has held since 2001. His work focuses on themes of journey, absence and loss, explored through sculptures, prints, artist’s books and installations and is held in numerous public collections both in UK and abroad. He will be having a survey show of his prints at Gallery 3, University of Kent, Canterbury in January 2013. In addition he has curated a number of exhibitions including Morandi’s Legacy; Influences on British Art in 2006 and published writings on amongst others Michael Craig-Martin, Christiane Baumgartner and Paula Rego. In 2011 he was keynote speaker at Impact Conference, Monash University, Melbourne. His current book Printmaking; A Contemporary Perspective was published by Black Dog Publishing in 2010. Paul was a keynote speaker at the Regional Print Centre’s Print Symposium in 2011 and will be taking part again in the 2012 Print Symposium: Printing the Personal.

Paul Croft TMP Cymhwysodd Paul Croft yn Feistr Argraffu yn Sefydliad Tamarind yn Albuquerque ym 1996 a bellach mae’n dysgu argraffu yn Ysgol Gelf Aberystwyth. Ysgrifennodd a chyhoeddodd ddau lyfr ar Lithograffeg Cerrig (2001) a Lithograffeg Platiau (2003).

Paul Croft qualified as a Master Printer at the Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque in 1996 and now teaches printmaking at the School of Art in Aberystwyth. He has written and published two books on Stone Lithography (2001) and Plate Lithography (2003).

Fel argraffydd, esblyga llawer o’i waith drwy ddarlunio a defnyddia dechnegau ysgythru, sgrînbrintio a lithograffeg cerrig, platiau a di-ddŵr. As a printmaker much of his work evolves through drawing and employs techniques of etching, screenprinting, stone, plate and waterless lithography. Underlying much of this work has been continuing interest in the object, found artefact, flotsam and jetsam - that have appeared in various different formats from traditional still life, through assemblage to abstract composition.

Interest in archaeology, origins of civilisation and in particular the etymology of language, alphabets and writing have also informed the work. Recent prints including Les Amulets à Musée have derived from artefacts and amulets found at The British Museum. Fragments of scratching, carving and casting – evidence, traces of existence throughout the ages have become the inspiration for these prints.

Argraffydd Cymreig yw Linda Davies sydd wedi ei lleoli yn Eryri, Gogledd Cymru. Astudiodd Celfyddyd Gain yng Nghaerdydd ac yn fwy diweddar cwblhaodd Ddiploma Argraffu Proffesiynol yn y Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol, Wrecsam lle daeth yn Gydlynydd Cynorthwyol yn ddiweddarach. Yn athrawes wedi cymhwyso, mae Linda’n tiwtora mewn Argraffu a Chelfyddyd Llyfrau ym Mhrifysgol Cymru, Bangor ac mae’n diwtor ymweld yng Ngholeg Llandrillo, Dolgellau. Arddangosa’n gyson yn genedlaethol ac yn rhyngwladol. Galluogodd nifer o fwrsariaethau iddi dreulio cyfnod estynedig yn Efrog Newydd dros y blynyddoedd diwethaf, gan ddatblygu cysylltiadau gyda stiwdios argraffu a chydweithio gydag artistiaid eraill.

Linda Davies is a Welsh printmaker based in Snowdonia, North Wales. She studied Fine Art at Cardiff and more recently completed a Professional Printmaking Diploma at the Regional Print Centre, Wrexham, where she later became Assistant Co-ordinator. A qualified teacher, Linda tutors in Printmaking and Book Arts at the University of Wales, Bangor and is a visiting tutor at Coleg Llandrillo, Dolgellau. She exhibits regularly nationally and internationally. A number of bursaries have allowed her to spend extended time in New York City over the past few years, developing links with printmaking studios and collaborating with other artists.

“My work often deals with concepts of time and place. Integral to these concerns is the exploration of associations and memory held in the land, and the impact of nature and human intervention upon it. Impressions, markings, found objects reflect these effects on the landscape and provide inspiration for my work. I am naturally drawn to pattern and mark making in the process of my printmaking. Working intuitively, I enjoy the diversity of form, texture and depth provided by using a multi media approach.”

“After studying Illustration I have always tried to find different ways of drawing by experimenting with all mediums. My prints are produced loosely around the values of screenprinting. The medium presents the opportunity of building images and reusing the stencil producing layers of textured colour. I manipulate the lines creating different interpretations of the original drawing.” “I have been visiting the Regional Print Centre for seven years. In that time I have had the opportunity to participate in many different projects, from the Postcard exhibition in 2004 to the Print Festival in Cumbria, the Print Symposium, and many inspirational courses. The Centre has also given me the opportunity to lead workshops in experimental screenprinting. It has been an invaluable resource to my practice.”

Specialising in wood engraving and collage, Anne Desmet exhibits widely, has won 30 awards and has works in public collections worldwide including the British Museum, British Library and V&A, which commissioned specific engravings. Her first retrospective was at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (1998), her second at the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester (2008). Author of Primary Prints and co-author of Handmade Prints – (both A&C Black ltd), she is editor of Printmaking Today magazine and lives in London. Following a year working in Rome (1989/90) as a Rome Scholar in Printmaking, Anne Desmet’s focus became the multi-layered nature of cities where ancient ruins co-exist with 21st century apartments and TV aerials. Via highly detailed wood engravings and linocuts of architectural subjects, she aims to create a sense of the interweaving and passage of years of history - a type of metamorphosis that is a recurring theme in her work. As well as creating editioned relief prints, she also makes complex collages in two and three dimensions, creating completely new images that are suggested by and develop the themes of her prints. This enables her to push particular architectural motifs in unexpected, often surprising directions, allowing a building to take on a life and invented identity of its own.

“I find my environment a constant source of inspiration; the physical presence of the world engenders a response which I search to find equivalents for.” “I develop my topographical drawings as a lifeline while I explore the more abstract ideas of the life that I observe. I recreate these drawings in prints and castings to allow the processes to develop more organically through eroded marks and surfaces. Nichola Goff Astudiodd Nichola Goff Argraffu Celfyddyd Gain yn Ysgol Celf a Dylunio Caerdydd ac yna dilynodd gwrs Diploma mewn Argraffu Proffesiynol yn y Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol. Bellach, mae’n gweithio fel Technegydd Argraffu ym Mhrifysgol Morgannwg ac wedi ei lleoli yn Ne Cymru. Nichola Goff studied Fine Art Printmaking at Cardiff School of Art and Design and later undertook the Professional Printmaking Diploma at the Regional Print Centre. She is currently working as the Print Technician in Glamorgan University and based in South Wales. She has been practicing as an artist and printmaker since graduating in 2005 and has been involved in community arts and residency projects, including arts in health and wellbeing.

“The Regional Print Centre has supported me greatly as an emerging artist. I have enjoyed studying and working with the Centre on various projects including spending a year as printmaker in residence at Rhosnesni High School in Wrexham. Ken Gowers Astudiodd Ken Gowers cemeg ym Mhrifysgol Reading, ac ers hynny, bu’n fferyllydd am dros 25 mlynedd mewn sefydliadau academaidd a diwydiannol, gan arbenigo mewn cyrydiad ac amddiffyn metelau. Wedi cael diddordeb mewn celf dros nifer o flynyddoedd, mae Ken wedi arfer y grefft o argraffu intaglio dros y 9 mlynedd diwethaf, yn bennaf yn y Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol, Wrecsam.

Ken Gowers studied chemistry at the University of Reading, and has subsequently worked as a chemist for more than 25 years in both academic and industrial organisations, specialising in the corrosion and protection of metals. After having an interest in art for many years, Ken has practiced intaglio printing over the past 9 years, principally at the Regional Print Centre, Wrexham.

Mae wedi arddangos ei waith mewn arddangosiadau agored yng Nghanolfan Celf Wrecsam, Amgueddfa Grosvenor, (Caer), Oriel Gelf Haworth (Accrington), Amgueddfa Rossendale, Oriel Gelf Stockport, a Chanolfan Celfyddydau Castle Park (Frodsham). He has exhibited in open exhibitions in Wrexham Arts Centre, the Grosvenor Museum (Chester), Haworth Art Gallery (Accrington), Rossendale Museum, Stockport Art Gallery, and Castle Park Arts Centre (Frodsham). Some of Ken’s work was exhibited at Stockport Art Gallery as part of the Artlink Programme. He has also had personal exhibitions at Haworth Art Gallery (entitled “Images of the Orient”, inspired by his travels in China) and El Centro de Fomiento, Carboneras, Spain (entitled “The World About Us”).

Emma Gregory trained at Sir John Cass, Central St. Martins, City of London University, the London School of Furniture and UCLan. She lives and works in Liverpool.

Magwyd Marcelle Hanselaar yn yr Hâg, yr Iseldiroedd lle mynychodd Academi Frenhinol y Celfyddydau am gyfnod byr. Bellach, mae’n byw ac yn gweithio yn Llundain.

Marcelle Hanselaar grew up in The Hague, The Netherlands where she briefly attended the Royal Academy of Arts. She now lives and works in London.

Yn arlunydd olew’n wreiddiol, gwelodd Hanselaar fod ysgythru yn gyfrwng perffaith ar gyfer ei phynciau tywyll: y byd cudd y tu hwnt i’w ymddangosiad. Dilyna ei darluniau crai, anifeilaidd, erotig ac eto’n ddigrif o fodau dynol diffygiol yn ôl troed mawrion fel Goya, Dix a Beckmann.

Originally an oil painter, Hanselaar discovered etching as the perfect medium for her dark subject matter: the hidden world beneath appearances. Her raw, animalistic, erotic yet humorous depictions of flawed human beings follows in the footsteps of such greats as Goya, Dix and Beckmann.

John Hedley Astudiodd John Hedley ddarlunio ac arlunio yn Ysgol Gelf Camberwell. Wedi iddo ennill ysgoloriaeth i fynychu ysgol ddarlunio ac arlunio Byam Shaw, dilynodd gwrs ôl-radd mewn argraffu yn Ysgol Gelf Central. Mae wedi cael nifer o arddangosfeydd unigol a chydag unigolyn arall yn Llundain a ledled y DU. Arddangosodd waith yn Arddangosfa Haf yr Academi Frenhinol ac arddangosiadau agored eraill. Dros y 18 mlynedd diwethaf, mae John wedi bod yn addysgu celfyddyd gain ac argraffu yng Ngholeg Llandrillo Cymru ac ym Mhrifysgol Bangor. Bellach, mae ar gyfnod sabothol o Landrillo er mwyn creu cyfres o weithiau i’w harddangos yn Oriel Bangor ac Oriel Ynys Môn.

“Rwyf wedi bod yn gweithio yn y Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol ers mis Ionawr 2010 wedi i mi gael grant ymchwil a datblygu gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru i ddysgu am gyfuno delweddau digidol ag ysgythru ac arbrofi yn y maes hwnnw.”

John Hedley studied drawing and painting at the Camberwell School of Art. After being awarded a scholarship to attend the Byam Shaw School of drawing and painting he undertook postgraduate study in printmaking at the Central School of Art. He has had a number of one person and two person exhibitions in London and across the UK. He has exhibited work at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and other open exhibitions. For the last 18 years John has been teaching fine art and printmaking at Coleg Llandrillo Cymru and Bangor University. He is currently on sabbatical from Llandrillo to produce a body of work to exhibit at Oriel Bangor and Oriel Ynys Mon.

“I have been working at the Regional Print Centre since January 2010 after I was awarded a research and development grant from the Arts Council of Wales to learn and experiment with combining digital images with etching.”

Jason Hicklin Graddiodd Jason Hicklin o Ysgol Central gydag ôl-radd ym 1992 ac fe’i hetholwyd yn aelod o Gymdeithas Frenhinol yr ArlunwyrArgraffwyr ym 1993.

Jason Hicklin graduated from the Central School as a post-graduate in 1992, and was elected a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in 1993.

Mae gan Jason stiwdio yn Ellesmere, Sir Amwythig, ac ef hefyd sy’n gyfrifol am y stiwdio ysgythru yn Ysgol Gelf City and Guilds Llundian.

Jason has a studio in Ellesmere, Shropshire, and he also runs the etching studio at the City and Guilds of London Art School.

Tracy Hill Adlewyrchiad yw gwaith Tracy ar siwrneiau emosiynol a chorfforol. Tracy’s work is a reflection of journeys both emotionally and physically. They invite you to consider the history of the places travelled through, what has shaped the pathways we walk upon, and the places those pathways link. The process of printing in the work responds directly to the nature of the subject; the layering and building of surfaces resonates with the years of history and palimpsest within our landscape.

Tracy’s work has been shown nationally and internationally. She completed a residency at The Centre of Contemporary Art in Preston during 2010. In April 2011 Tracy accepted a place on the International residency programme at Pyramid Atlantic, Washington DC, the resulting works from the residency were shown in Washington DC in December 2011 and Preston in 2012.

Katherine Jones Argraffydd yw Katherine Jones sy’n byw ac yn gweithio yn Ne Ddwyrain Llundain. Fe’i ganwyd yn Eastbourne ym 1979, treuliodd ei phlentyndod yn Sir Henffordd cyn astudio Argraffu yn Ysgol Gelf Caergrawnt ac yna cwblhau gradd MA yng Ngholeg Celf Camberwell yn Llundain yn 2003. Dyfarnwyd y gymrodoriaeth ymchwil nodedig mewn argraffu iddi yn Ysgol Gelf City and Guilds Llundain yn 2003 lle bu’n addysgu o 2007 hyd 2010. Cyfuna Katherine amrywiaeth o ffurfiau o gyfryngau argraffu traddodiadol i wireddu ei gwaith. Yn aml, maent yn ymateb i freuder llefydd sy’n ymddangos yn gadarn a dibynnol megis y breswylfa deuluol glasurol. Katherine Jones is a printmaker living and working in South East London. Born in Eastbourne in 1979, she spent her childhood in Herefordshire before studying Printmaking at Cambridge School of Art, and then completing an MA at Camberwell College of Art in London in 2003. She was awarded the prestigious research fellowship in printmaking at The City and Guilds of London Art School where she taught from 2007 until 2010. Katherine combines various forms of traditional print media to realise her pieces. They are often responses to the vulnerability of apparently solid and reliable places namely the archetypal domestic dwelling. The motif of a house is used as a vehicle for conceptual ideas ranging from the interpretation of fairy tales, to contemporary environmental and social concerns. Katherine is the recipient of numerous awards including the Birgit Skiold Memorial Trust Book Award in 2010, The Northern Print Biennale Solution Group Prize 2009, The London Print Studio Award, Originals 2009, East London Printmakers Great Art Prize 2009, Pushing Print award 2009, The TN Lawrence and Son print prize 2009 and the Wrexham Print International-Intaglio Printmaker Award 2009. She has recently completed a residency at Kloster Bentlager Print studio in Rheine, Germany.

“My work is instinctive, and based on drawings and memories of places, along with my love of colour and pattern. The places that inspire me hold a feeling of history and connection with the past. Sometimes this can be seen in the marks that are left on the land, or in the objects buried beneath.”

Steffan Jones-Hughes Artist gweledol yw Steffan Jones-Hughes, a’i waith yn archwilio syniadaeth straeon, hiraeth a myfyrdod. Mae ei waith yn myfyrio ar y cyflwr dynol gan alluogi gwylwyr i’w ddehongli mewn dulliau amryfal. Wedi sefydli a chynnal y Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol yn Wrecsam am nifer o flynyddoedd, symudodd i fod yn Rheolwr Perthynas y Celfyddydau Gweledol i Gyngor Celfyddydau Lloegr yn Sir Efrog. Fe’i penodwyd yn ddiweddar yn Rheolwr y Celfyddydau i Gyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Wrecsam. Mae ganddo brofiad helaeth mewn rheolaeth a chodi arian yn y celfyddydau gweledol yn bennaf, yn ogystal â phrofiad eang mewn gwaith curadol ac addysgol. Steffan Jones-Hughes is a visual artist whose work explores notions of narrative, longing and contemplation. His work reflects on the human condition allowing viewers multiple readings. After establishing and running the Regional Print Centre in Wrexham for many years, he moved to become Visual Arts Relationship Manager for the Arts Council England in Yorkshire. He has recently been appointed Arts Manager for Wrexham County Borough Council. He has extensive management and fundraising experience predominantly in the visual arts, in addition to wide curatorial and educational experience. Steffan has exhibited widely and has won a number of prizes.

Catherine Kleeli Ganwyd Catherine Kleeli ym 1960 yn Wakefield, Gorllewin Sir Efrog. Mae hi bellach yn byw yw Bolton, Sir Gaerhirfryn gyda lleoliad stiwdio yn Hot Bed Press, Salford. Tanategir ei diddordeb oes mewn celf gan radd BA (Anrh) Dosbarth Cyntaf mewn Celfyddyd Gain. Mae wedi arddangos ei gwaith ledled gogledd orllewin Lloegr, gan gyfrannu i sioeau unigol ac mewn grŵp.

Catherine Kleeli was born in 1960 in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. She is currently residing in Bolton, Lancashire with a studio base at Hot Bed Press, Salford. Her life-long interest in art is under-pinned by a First Class BA (Hons) in Fine Art. She has exhibited work throughout the north west of England, participating in both solo and group shows.

Trosglwyddodd i gwrs llawn amser yn UWIC Caerdydd ddwy flynedd yn ddiweddarach, a graddiodd mewn Celfyddyd Gain yn 2001. Yn ystod ei chyfnod yng Nghaerdydd, dechreuodd Eirian ymddiddori’n benodol mewn argraffu gydag anogaeth Tom Piper, pennaeth yr Adran Argraffu.

Eirian Llwyd began to pursue her career as an artist in 1997, when she started a part time degree course in Coleg Menai, Bangor under the unrivalled tutorship of Peter Prendergast and Ed Davies. She transferred to a full time course in UWIC Cardiff two years later, and graduated in Fine Art in 2001. Whilst at Cardiff, Eirian began to take a particular interest in printmaking under the encouragement of Tom Piper, the head of the Printmaking Department.

“The enduring themes of my work are the landscape of my adopted home – the Isle of Anglesey, and the influence that our predecessors had on it. Most of my prints have a sense of place as I try to express the drama and the atmosphere of the landscape. It’s a landscape that has been shaped by its location as an island and the fact that it is exposed to the effects of the sea and the strong westerly winds from the Irish Sea.” “Working alongside other printmakers has enriched my understanding of printmaking techniques, and the high quality workshops organised by the Regional Print Centre have ensured development in practical skills in printmaking. These experiences have been invaluable and helped to combat the isolation that sometimes comes with working in a rural area.”

Ganwyd Luci Melegari yn Rhuthun, Gogledd Cymru i rieni Eidalaidd. Astudiodd Argraffu Celfyddyd Gain yng Ngholeg Celf a Dylunio Loughborough cyn dilyn cwrs MA mewn Argraffu yng Ngholeg Polytechnig Manceinion. Hi yw Cyfarwyddwr Cwricwlwm a Safonau/ Cyfadran Diwylliant a Chyfathrebu Coleg Iâl Wrecsam ar hyn o bryd, gyda chefndir arbenigol mewn argraffu.

Luci Melegari was born in Ruthin, North Wales, to Italian parents. She studied Fine Art Printmaking at Loughborough College of Art & Design before taking a MA in Printmaking at Manchester Polytechnic. She is currently the Director of Curriculum and Standards / Faculty of Culture & Communications at Yale College, Wrexham, with a specialist background in print.

Mae’n ymroddedig i hyrwyddo argraffu fel dull creadigol penodol ei hun ac fel adnodd addysgol. Mae gan Luci dros ugain mlynedd o brofiad ym maes argraffu a hi oedd un o sylfaenwyr arddangosfa Printiau Rhyngwladol Wrecsam yn 2001 rhwng Oriel Goffa Coleg Iâl a Chanolfan Celfyddydau Wrecsam (Oriel Wrecsam bellach). Wedi hynny, Luci oedd cyd-sylfaenydd prosiect y Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol gydag Anna Adair yn 2002.

She is committed to the promotion of printmaking as a creative tool in its own right and as an educational resource. Luci has over twenty years of printmaking experience and was one of the originators of the Wrexham Print International exhibition in 2001 between the Memorial Gallery, Yale College and Wrexham Arts Centre (now Oriel Wrecsam). Subsequently Luci cofounded the Regional Print Centre project with Anna Adair in 2002.

Neil Morris Ganwyd Neil Morris yn Lerpwl ym 1958 ac ar hyn o bryd, ef yw’r Darllenydd mewn Argraffu Cyfoes ym Mhrifysgol John Moores Lerpwl. Ers dros 30 o flynyddoedd, mae ganddo frwdfrydedd mawr am argraffu ac mae wedi arddangos yn rhyngwladol, wedi siarad yn helaeth ac addysgu’n eang gyda’r nod o ledaenu ei ddiddordeb a’i gredoau yn y pwnc hwn. Trwy gydol y cyfnod hwn, cydweithiodd yn helaeth mewn mannau mor bell â Lima, Shanghai, Athen, Orebro, Cologne a Salford! Gwêl cydweithredu’n ganolog i’w waith artistig ac mae ei waith yn ymwneud â hiraeth ac atgofion. Morris yw cyd-sylfaenydd ‘Eight Days a Week’, bras bennawd am aelodaeth lifol hyd at ddeugain o artistiaid traws-gyfryngol a ddaw o brif ganolfannau artistig Lerpwl a Cologne, ei gefeilldref yn yr Almaen.

Neil Morris was born in Liverpool in 1958 and is currently the Reader in Contemporary Printmaking at Liverpool John Moores University. For over 30 years he has been engaged with a passion for printmaking and has exhibited internationally, spoken widely and educated broadly in a mission to disseminate his interests and beliefs on this subject. Throughout this time he has collaborated extensively in places as far flung as Lima, Shanghai, Athens, Orebro, Cologne and Salford! He sees collaboration as being central to his artistic practice and his work deals with issues of nostalgia and memory. Morris is the co-founder of ‘Eight Days a Week’ a banner name for a fluid membership of up to forty cross-media artists drawn from the major artistic centres of Liverpool and her twin German city of Cologne.

Paul Peter Piech Ganwyd Paul Peter Piech yn Efrog Newydd ym 1920. Astudiodd yng Ngholeg Celf Undeb Cooper, ac ym 1937 aeth i weithio fel artist graffig yn Asiantaeth Hysbysebu Dorlands. Yn ystod yr Ail Ryfel Byd, gwasanaethodd Piech gyda’r Wythfed Awyrlu a chyfarfu â’i ddarpar wraig, Irene Tompkins yng Nghaerdydd ac fe’u priodwyd ym 1947. Wedi’r rhyfel, astudiodd yng Ngholeg Celf Chelsea ac fe’i penodwyd yn gyfarwyddwr artistig asiantaeth hysbysebu WS Crawfords lle bu’n gweithio rhwng 1951 ac 1968.

Paul Peter Piech was born in New York in 1920. He studied at the Cooper Union College of Art, and in 1937 went to work as a graphic artist at Dorlands Advertising Agency. During the Second World War, Piech served with the Eighth Air Force, and met his future wife Irene Tompkins in Cardiff, who he later married in 1947. After the war, he studied at Chelsea College of Art and was appointed as the artistic director of WS Crawfords’ advertising agency, where he worked from 1951 to 1968.

Yn dilyn gyrfa fasnachol lwyddiannus fel dylunydd graffeg, aeth Piech ar ei liwt ei hun ym 1968, wedi iddo eisoes sefydlu ei gwmni ei hun, Gwasg Taurus, ym 1959. Yn ystod y cyfnod hwn, creodd bosteri wedi’u hargraffu o dorluniau leino a thorluniau pren, darluniau a llyfrau argraffiadau cyfyngedig i amrywiaeth o gleientiaid a chyfleoedd i arddangos. O’r 1970au cynnar, bu’n dysgu mewn amrywiaeth o ysgolion celf, gan greu ac arddangos nifer fawr o bosteri wedi’u hargraffu ar themâu a ysgogwyd gan faterion gwleidyddol a chymdeithasol - gyda llawer ohonynt yn cyfuno’i ddelweddau caled nodedig â llythrennu torlun leino cadarn. Treuliodd Piech ddeng mlynedd olaf ei fywyd yn byw ym Mhorthcawl, De Cymru, lle parhaodd i weithio a chael effaith ddylanwadol ar fyd celf Cymru.

After a successful commercial career as a graphic designer, Piech went freelance in 1968 having already established his own firm, the Taurus Press, in 1959. During this period he produced linocut and woodcut printed posters, illustrations and limited edition books for a variety of clients and exhibition opportunities. From the early 1970s he taught at various art schools, whilst creating and exhibiting vast numbers of political and socially motivated printed posters - many of which combined his trademark hard-hitting imagery with heavy cut linocut lettering. Piech spent the last ten years of his life living in Porthcawl, South Wales, where he continued to work and had an influential impact on the Welsh art scene.

Wedi marwolaeth Piech ym 1996, rhoddodd ei deulu bortffolio helaeth o’i waith i Goleg Iâl, Wrecsam yn 2006. Yn gynwysedig ynddo oedd casgliad o dros 200 o brintiau, posteri a detholiad o flociau leino.

Disgrifia Heather Prescott ei hun fel Argraffydd, Peintiwr (mewn Dyfrlliw) a gwneuthurwr Llyfrau i Artistiaid. Yn y gorffennol, dysgodd gelf a chynhaliodd brosiectau mewn amgylcheddau therapiwtig, anghenion arbennig a chymunedol wrth iddi fagu ei phlant a bod yn ofalwr, ymysg pethau eraill. Dechreuodd ei haddysg ym maes celf gyda Dylunio Graffeg a Darlunio yng Nghamberwell, symud ymlaen i flwyddyn o argraffu ôl-radd ym Mrighton a ddilynwyd yn ddiweddarach gan MA (rhag) mewn Celf ac Addysg yn UCE Birmingham.

Heather Prescott describes herself as a Printmaker, Painter (in Watercolour) and maker of Artists Books. Previously she has taught art and run projects in therapeutic, special needs and community environments, while bringing up children and being a carer, amongst other things. Her art education began with Graphic Design & Illustration at Camberwell, going on to a year of post graduate printmaking in Brighton, followed later by MA (dist) in Art & Education at UCE Birmingham.

Collette Rothnie Canolbwyntiodd gwaith Collette Rothnie ar ymchwilio i ddylanwad y ddol a’i berthynas â dynolryw mewn cyd-destun hanesyddol a chyfoes. Collette Rothnie’s work has focused on investigating the influences of the doll, and its relationship with humankind in both a historical and contemporary context. For Collette, the doll has played an inspirational part in representing many different cultures, religions, education systems, politics, economies, and industries throughout the world. She believes that the doll has evolved alongside mankind over the centuries influencing and affecting our lives.

Bu Michelle Rowley yn aelod gweithredol o’r gymuned argraffu yng Ngogledd Orllewin Lloegr ers iddi raddio mewn Celfyddyd Gain ym Mhrifysgol John Moores Lerpwl, LJMU. Mae’n aelod sefydlol o Hot Bed Press, ac wedi parhau i ddatblygu perthnasau rhanbarthol a chenedlaethol gydag adrannau a stiwdios argraffu yn rhinwedd ei swydd fel darlithydd rhan-amser mewn Celfyddyd Gain yng Ngholeg Metropolitan Cilgwri.

Michelle Rowley has been an active member of the printmaking community in the North West of England since graduating with a Fine Art degree from Liverpool, LJMU. She is a founding member of Hot Bed Press, and has continued to develop both regional and international relationships with printmaking departments and studios through her position as a part time lecturer in Fine Art at Wirral Metropolitan College.

Gweithiodd Nora Sakwa fel athrawes ysgol gynradd am gyfnod hir a daeth i fyd argraffu gyda sgiliau sylfaenol iawn a gafodd wrth ei gwaith fel athrawes. Yn dilyn cwrs byr mewn sgrînbrintio, cofrestrodd ar y cwrs Diploma mewn Argraffu Proffesiynol yn y Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol, ac fe’i cwblhaodd y llynedd. Mae hi wedi arddangos ei gwaith yn lleol ac yn Lerpwl.

Nora Sakwa worked for a long period of time as a primary school teacher and came to print making with very basic skills, acquired whilst teaching. Following a short course in screenprinting she embarked on the Professional Printmaking Diploma at the Regional Print Centre which she completed last year. She has exhibited work locally and in Liverpool.

Estella Scholes Mae Estella Scholes yn beintiwr, yn argraffydd ac yn diwtor ar ei liwt ei hun wedi ei lleoli yng Nghrewe. Yn wreiddiol, enillodd radd BA (Anrh) mewn Celfyddyd Gain ym 1975, a dilynodd nifer o lwybrau cyn dychwelyd i baentio yng nghanol yr 1990au. Cwblhaodd Estella radd Meistr mewn Celfyddyd Gain yn 2003 ac ers hynny, mae wedi archwilio technegau argraffu llai traddodiadol gyda phwyslais ar waith colagraff fel proses peintwrus, ochr yn ochr â phaentio abstract ar gynfas a llyfrau artistiaid. Arddangosir ei gwaith mewn arddangosiadau unigol, sioeau grŵp a chynlluniau Stiwdios Agored ledled y Gogledd Orllewin. Fe’i cedwir hefyd mewn casgliadau preifat a chorfforaethol yn y DU a Norwy.

Estella Scholes is a painter, printmaker and freelance tutor based in Crewe. She originally gained a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 1975, and followed various pathways before returning to painting in the mid 1990’s. Estella completed a Masters in Fine Art in 2003, and since then has explored less traditional printmaking techniques with an emphasis on collagraph as a painterly process, alongside abstract painting on canvas and artist books. Her work has been exhibited in solo exhibitions, group shows, and Open Studios schemes throughout the North West. It is also held in private and corporate collections in the UK and Norway.

“My Involvement with the Regional Print Centre over the years, either through attending workshops or by using Open Access, continues to be of great benefit to my work as an artist. The Centre provides both the physical and mental space for creative exploration, supported by sound technical expertise.”

Mae Andrew wedi gweithio’n rheolaidd gyda lliw, gan archwilio prosesau a methodoleg wahanol gan gynnwys argraffu (The Surface of Colour 2001); cydweithrediad wrth sefydlu cysylltiadau gyda phartneriaid rhyngwladol (Galisia 2002, Macedonia 2003, Mecsico 2004, Gwlad Pŵyl 2004 ac Awstralia 2009) a phrosiectau celf cyhoeddus (Y Barri 2009, Caerdydd 2010 a Rwsia 2011).

Andrew Smith has worked consistently with colour, exploring different processes and methodologies including printmaking (The Surface of Colour 2001); collaboration, in establishing links with international partners (Galicia 2002, Macedonia 2003, Mexico 2004, Poland 2004 and Australia 2009) and public art projects (Barry 2009, Cardiff 2010 and Russia 2011).

Astudiodd yn Ysgol Gelf Norwich (Paentio 1986) a Choleg Celf a Chrefft Camberwell (Argraffu 1996) ac mae wedi bod yn addysgu’n rhan-amser trwy gydol ei yrfa. Ar hyn o bryd, mae’n arweinydd pwnc celfyddyd gain gydag Adran Dysgu Gydol Oes, Prifysgol Bangor.

He studied at Norwich School of Art (Painting 1986) and Camberwell College of the Arts and Crafts (Printmaking 1996) and has taught part time throughout his career. He is currently subject leader for fine art with Lifelong Learning, Bangor University.

“Fluorescent and metallic System 3 colours were used in an exploration of repetition of mark stencils. Although areas are left with one colour, others are built up to add weight to the colour. The over lapping gives rise to unpredictable hue, luminosity and depth, so the process necessarily involves unique images as the stencils are moved in each printing. Four of these series were shown in Celtica festival Port Adelaide, Australia and later in Le Chéile, touring South Australia 2009 - 10. One of the series was shown in the Limerick Printmaking Open, Ireland 2007.”

Astudiodd Sara Stabb yng Ngholeg Polytechnig Gogledd Sir Stafford gan ennill gradd BA mewn Celfyddyd Gain / Paentio. Dilynwyd hyn rai blynyddoedd yn ddiweddarach gydag aelodaeth o’r stiwdio argraffu mynediad agored Hot Bed Press yn Salford. Trwy fynychu cyrsiau a defnyddio cyfleusterau’r stiwdio, cafodd Sara sylfaen gadarn o wybodaeth am argraffu. Yn ddiweddar, cwblhaodd Sara’r Dystysgrif Argraffu Proffesiynol yn y Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol a rhoddodd hwn ganolbwynt a chyfeiriad i’w defnydd o argraffu yn ogystal â’i chyflwyno i gymuned newydd o argraffwyr y mae’n dal i gysylltu â nhw.

Sara Stabb studied at North Staffordshire Polytechnic gaining a BA in Fine Art / Painting. This was followed some years later by membership of the open access printmaking studio Hot Bed Press in Salford. Through attending courses and using the studios facilities, Sara acquired a sound basis of printmaking knowledge. Recently Sara completed the Professional Printmaking Certificate at the Regional Print Centre and this also provided focus and direction in her use of print, as well as introducing her to a new community of printmakers, with whom she retains contact.

Amy Sterly is originally from Chicago and received a BFA in drawing and sculpture from Rockford College, Illinois in 1986. She moved to the UK in 1989 and has since exhibited throughout the UK, Europe and the USA. She received a Wales Arts International Travel award in 2004 to attend the Lessedra 3rd International Print Exhibition in Sofia, Bulgaria, and a Welsh Arts Council Grant in 2006 to research Printmakers in Wales. She has also written articles for Printmaking Today, Welsh Art Now and Grapheion. Amy’s style is drawn from graphic and comic influences and there is frequently a humorous aspect to her prints and sculptures. An emotion or attitude can be conveyed by the simplest of lines.

“The Regional Print Centre has been crucial to my development as an artist since its beginnings in 2001. The Centre has really spurred me on to meet other artists, and given me the confidence to exhibit in all types of printmaking exhibitions, both here and abroad.” “The Centre has been an important space for the arts in North Wales, for the creation of new work, and for the creation of new links between contemporary artists in Wales.”

Astudiodd Gini Wade argraffu a dylunio graffeg yn Ysgol Gelf Central, Llundain, a gweithiodd fel dylunydd ac awdur llyfrau plant am nifer o flynyddoedd. Bu’n fyfyriwr ôl-radd yn Ysgol Gelf Aberystwyth o 2007-2010, gan arbenigo mewn lithograffeg gyda’r Meistr mewn Argraffu, Paul Croft RE. Llwyddodd Gini gyda Rhagoriaeth a bu’n addysgu yn yr Ysgol Gelf yn ystod 2010/2011.

Gini Wade studied printmaking and graphic design at the Central School of Art, London, and worked as an illustrator and childrens’ book author for many years. She was a post-graduate student at the School of Art, Aberystwyth from 2007-2010, specialising in lithography with Master Printer Paul Croft RE. Gini passed with Distinction and taught at the School of Art during 2010/2011.

Mae ei phrintiau wedi eu harddangos yn helaeth yn y DU ac yn rhyngwladol. Bu hefyd yn siaradwr gwadd ac yn arddangosydd yng Ngŵyl Graffeg Hong Kong ac yn arddangosydd gwadd yn HKArt2012 yn Hong Kong.

Her prints have been exhibited widely both in the UK and internationally. She was also a guest speaker and exhibitor at the Hong Kong Graphic Fiesta 2011 and an invited exhibitor at HKArt 2012 in Hong Kong.

Ar hyn o bryd, mae Gini’n cynnal gweithdai yn Ymddiriedolaeth Sidney Nolan, Sir Henffordd, ac mae’n un o gyfarwyddwyr Argraffwyr Aberystwyth.

Currently Gini runs workshops at the Sidney Nolan Trust, Herefordshire, and is a director of Aberystwyth Printmakers.

Pan adewais y coleg celf ym 1986 a dychwelyd i Gymru i ddilyn gyrfa fel artist argraffydd, roedd gennyf y weledigaeth ramantus o ddarganfod cyfleuster argraffu broffesiynol lle byddwn yn gallu parhau i ddatblygu argraffu fel cyfrwng celf a chyfarfod â phobl o’r un anian lle byddem yn gallu trafod syniadau a thechnegau. Cefais fy hyfforddi mewn stiwdio argraffu gyda chyfleusterau rhagorol a chefnogaeth dechnegol benigamp, a thybiais y byddai hwn yn parhau mewn darpariaeth mynediad agored. Chwalwyd y weledigaeth ramantus hon yn fuan wrth i mi ddarganfod nad oedd darpariaeth o’r fath yn yr ardal.

When I left art college in 1986 and returned to Wales to pursue a career as a an artist printmaker I had a romantic vision of finding a professional printmaking facility where I could continue to develop printmaking as an art form and to meet likeminded people where we could discuss ideas and techniques. I had been trained in a wonderfully resourced print studio with excellent technical support and I assumed this would continue in an open access provision. This romantic vision was soon shattered as I discovered that there was no such provision in the locality.

I eventually set up my own printmaking studio, but the vision of a regional printmaking facility never left me. It became an aim I wanted to fulfil, in order to share my passion for printmaking as a creative tool, with newly trained printmakers, practicing professionals and those with an interest for the medium; where the excitement of the transfer of a mark, or image with pressure - and never quite knowing what you may get - continually excites. It was some years later when the opportunity arose for the vision to be pursued. Anna Adair, my late colleague and friend, and I talked for

many years about developing a professional facility for printmaking, as we shared a background in print and a strong passion for sharing its merits with all our students. When we moved to the new site for the Art Department - the former Memorial Hospital - at Yale College in 1995, the opportunity to develop a specialist print facility arose. It was wonderful to be given the remit to a design a new print workshop …a printmakers dream. The opportunity initially was to develop a specialist resource for printmaking as an integral part of a student’s art education, but we soon realised that the time was right to use this facility to create an open access studio, and to realise our vision. Just before Anna retired in 2001, we made an application to the Arts Council of Wales and her powers of persuasion were successful in achieving the funding to establish the now well renowned Regional Print Centre. This year I am so proud that we are celebrating a decade of Regional Print and the Wrexham Print International. I am saddened that Anna will not be here to share this landmark with me, but I will be eternally grateful to her for filling in that application form and for leaving Yale and the region with this wonderful legacy, which has flourished under the co-ordination of initially Steffan Jones-Hughes and currently Jim Creed and Greg Fuller, all of whom have worked passionately to make the vision a reality and to exceed our expectations.

The success is also down to those artist printmakers who have joined us to run workshops, to our members, those who have shared our passion, to Yale College for supporting the vision and of course to the Arts Council of Wales, who saw the viability of the initial project and have continued to fund us since 2002. There have been so many wonderful projects organised by the centre over the years, and it continues to promote printmaking as a creative tool to all those who are interested in the many wonderful techniques and processes. I am looking forward to the Centre’s next decade and it’s achievements. Anna always continued to take an interest in the centre’s activities, and the last event she attended was the successful Print Symposium in 2011 and I know she would join me in saying how proud we are of the Centre, and the work it has done to keep printmaking in the region alive and vibrant. I am so pleased to have overseen the project in the last ten years, and to have the provision as part of the faculty’s sector leading resources. The model has been so successful that it has led to other open access facilities being developed within the faculty. So I thank Anna, and everyone who has played a part in making the vision not only a reality, but highly successful on a local, regional, national and international level.

Yn 2002, dechreuais weithio yn y Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol, yn wreiddiol am gyfnod o 12 mis. Yn ystod y flwyddyn honno, llwyddwyd i sicrhau cyllid am y flwyddyn ganlynol ac, wrth i’r fenter ddatblygu, cynyddodd y gefnogaeth gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru, a thyfodd y prosiect. Cefais bleser yn datblygu’r Ganolfan yn ystod y blynyddoedd cynnar, a chyfarfod â chymaint o argraffywr. Mae Stiwdios Argraffu yn fannau cymdeithasol iawn yn gyffredinol gydag ethos gref o rannu’n bodoli yno. Roedd hi’n wych cael gweithio gyda Linda Davies, Karen Whittingham, Jane Stokes a Pam Newall, a roddodd gymaint i gefnogi agwedd dydd i ddydd y cyfleuster, a dilynodd pob un ohonynt y cwrs Diploma Argraffu Proffesiynol a ddatblygwyd gan y Ganolfan. Regional Print Centre Co-ordinator 2002-2010 In 2002 I began work at the Regional Print Centre initially for a 12 month period. During that year we were able to secure funding for the following year, and as the initiative developed, support from the Arts Council of Wales increased, and the project grew. I really enjoyed the experience of developing the Centre in the early years, and particularly enjoyed meeting so many printmakers. Print Studios are generally very social places and definitely have a sharing ethos. It was fantastic to work with Linda Davies, Karen Whittingham, Jane Stokes and Pam Newall, who gave so much to support the day-to-day aspect of the facility, and who all undertook the Professional Print Diploma that was developed by the Centre. Working with artists was another fantastic aspect of my time there, and I had the extraordinary good fortune to develop prints with Jeanette Orrell, Bedwyr Williams, Sandy Sykes, Kip Gresham, Marcelle Hanselaar, Anita Klein, and many more. For me, the Regional Print Centre is a community. Everyone involved made it what it was, and I really enjoyed being part of it for such a long time.

Cydlynydd y Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol 2010-Presennol I mi, mae’r Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol wedi bod yn rhan bwysig o’m gyrfa broffesiynol dros y ddwy flynedd ddiwethaf. Fel Cydlynydd presennol y prosiect, mae fy nghysylltiad uniongyrchol â’r Ganolfan wedi bod yn ddymunol ac yn heriol fel ei gilydd, ond yn bennaf yn foddhaus. Rhai o’m huchafbwyntiau personol yw sefydlu a datblygu gwefan swyddogol gyntaf y Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol a gweithio gydag archif Coleg Iâl o waith yr artist graffeg Paul Peter Piech, sy’n adnodd unigryw a ddaw’n ail dim ond i’r casgliad o’i waith yn Amgueddfa Fictoria ac Albert, Llundain. Mae hi wedi bod yn bleser pur gweithio ochr yn ochr â’m ffrind a’m cydweithiwr Greg Fuller; hebddo, byddai awyrgylch hollol wahanol yn y Ganolfan. Regional Print Centre Co-ordinator 2010-Present For me the Regional Print Centre has been an important part of my professional career for the past two years. As the current Coordinator of the project my direct involvement with the Centre has been equally engaging and challenging, but ultimately rewarding. My personal highlights include initiating and developing the first official Regional Print Centre website and working with Yale College’s archive of work by the graphic artist Paul Peter Piech, which is a unique resource only second to the collection of his work at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. It has also been an absolute pleasure to work alongside my friend and colleague Greg Fuller, without whom the Centre would have a completely different atmosphere. His commitment and enthusiasm for the project is second to none, and something I am truly grateful for. Overall, the best thing about working at the Regional Print Centre is being able to support a network of artists, from complete beginners to professionals, by providing a specialist resource in which printmaking can be successfully taught, developed and engaged with across all levels.

Greg Fuller

Tiwtor yn y Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol 2010-Presennol Mae argraffu’n ddull gwych o ddysgu’r broses o wneud penderfyniadau i ddatblygu creadigrwydd. Gan fod penderfyniadau da’n bwysig ym mhob maes, mae’n amlwg bod adnodd fel y Ganolfan Argraffu Ranbarthol yn hynod werthfawr. Mae’r broses hon yn ganolog i’r holl gelfyddydau, ond dim ond argraffu sy’n gadael i bob penderfyniad da neu ddrwg i fod yn amlwg hyd yn oed wedi i’r daith greadigol ddod i ben yn yr argraffiad terfynol. Mae angen cryn dipyn o ddisgyblaeth, penderfyniad a chanolbwyntio llwyr i wneud y gorau o argraffu. Past, Present, Future: 10 years of the Regional Print Centre

Regional Print Centre Tutor 2010-Present Printmaking is a fantastic way to teach the process of decision-making required to develop creativity. Since every walk of life relies on good decisions, it goes without saying how valuable a resource like the Regional Print Centre is. This process is central to all of the arts, but only printmaking allows all of those good and bad decisions to remain evident even after the best results have brought the creative journey to a conclusion in the final successful print. There is a considerable amount of discipline, determination and focused concentration required to get the most out of print. This could be called craft, but when it is coupled with visual literacy, spontaneity and intuitive personal expression, then the greatest of art is possible. The Regional Print Centre is well resourced and supported by its parent sponsors of Yale College, Wrexham and the Arts Council of Wales, with regard to equipment and materials. This support is vital; along with the studio space to make work; but the Centre’s most important assets are its members, clients and users. The Centre offers the opportunity for people to share skills, understanding and support for each other to develop their work, careers and personal expression.
