MOA ON SMALL WATER IMPOUNDING PROJECT INKED IN SURIGAO NORTE

A tripartite Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on Small Water Impounding Project (SWIP) was signed recently in Tagana-an town.

The MOA was signed between the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Hinatuan Mining Corporation (HMC) and the Local Government Unit of Tagana-an, Surigao del Norte and was spearheaded by the officials of DENR in Surigao del Norte; HMC Resident Mine Manager represented by Engr. Edwin R. Casiano; Municipal Mayor of Tagana-an Cesar B. Diaz, Jr. and the recipient of the project - Barangay Captain of Himama-ug Leonardo C. Alce.

The said project is funded by HMC in compliance with their commitment to the agreements during the Caraga Mine Environment and Management Council Meeting to include on the DENR Programs in the Annual Environment Protection and Enhancement Program CY 2020. small scale irrigation technologies developed by the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) to address the problems on supply and allocation of water in certain watershed communities.

The said project has been recommended as one of the conservation measures which will benefit the communities within certain watersheds to enhance and stabilize the condition of soil and provide enough water supply in the area. (DENR-Surigao del Norte/ PIA-Surigao del Norte)
