ASEAN PH hosts ASEAN confab to advance gender mainstreaming will tackle internationally-recognized women’s issues that are relevant to the mandates of ASCC sectoral bodies. Delegates are expected to outline possible strategies in addressing the priority women and gender issues in the ASEAN which can form part of an ASCC Action Plan on Gender Mainstreaming.

MAKATI CITY – People of the ASEAN may now look forward to more genderresponsive policies and programs in the region as their senior officials embark on a three-day conference that will deepen their understanding on Gender and Development (GAD). Around 100 delegates from the ASEAN Member States (AMS) are expected to participate in the “Senior Officials Conference on Gender Mainstreaming in the ASEAN SocioCultural Community (ASCC) Sectoral Bodies” at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Makati City on June 27-29. Led by the ASEAN Committee on Women (ACW), through its Philippine focal point – the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), the conference

Conference topics include fundamental concepts of GAD, gender statistics and sex-disaggregated data and examples of good practices, Gender Mainstreaming, and elimination of Violence Against Women (VAW) and Violence Against Children (VAC). DSWD Caraga shares updates on agency’s various programs

BUTUAN CITY (PIA) – In its aim to continuously update media partners on the development of the department’s programs and services, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga on Monday met with the media practitioners here and nearby municipalities and shared with them updates on the their respective programs and services, and interacted with the media during an open forum. In his message, Ramel Jamen, administrative chief of DSWD-Caraga, said their office also welcomes negative feedbacks from the media and respond to them appropriately, since they consider it as constructive criticism, with emphasis on how the department could better enhance their services to the public, especially to the marginalized sector of the community.

According to Andoy, it is shared with the national government agencies, non-government organizations, local government units, and other social protection stakeholders through forum and other outreach activities. “As stipulated in the Memorandum of Agreement with DSWD, data users are to provide feedback on how they used the information generated from the Listahanan database for proper monitoring and recording,” Andoy added. LGU-Butuan starts review of business, licensing processes BUTUAN CITY -- In a bid to further streamline its business permitting and licensing system (BPLS) to provide ease to business applicants, enforce statutory requirements and generate the right taxes and fees for the city, the city government of Butuan has started to review its existing processes.

100 hardwood tree seedlings planted in Maguindanao

COTABATO CITY -- The Office of Civil Defense in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (OCD-ARMM) and the local government of Parang, Maguindanao joined hands Tuesday in planting 100 Mahogany and Antipolo tree seedlings on the municipality’s 500-hectare Macasandag watershed. The watershed area, covering most of Barangay Macasandag, is the main source of water for both domestic and agricultural uses of the municipality, traversed by the Kumagingking, Ambal, Kamaran, Libuan, Simuay, and Nituan rivers all leading towards Illana Bay in the northern side.

MANILA -- Officials from the Japanese Embassy in Manila and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) visited on Friday several improvement projects along Pasig River being funded by the Japan government. The site inspection was led by Ambassador Koji Haneda and DPWH Secretary Mark Villar aboard a river boat, who checked on Guadalupe and Lambingan bridges set for seismic improvement in 2019, as well as the ongoing Pasig-Marikina River Channel Improvement Project. The river channel improvement project already completed major works such as construction of revetment with river wall, and the dredging and construction of dike along the river

through the use of Japan’s disaster prevention technology. The project is expected to contribute in flood damage mitigation and sustainable urban economic development in the National Capital Region. Meanwhile, the seismic improvement project for the bridges is expected to improve the structures’ earthquake resistance and to contribute for its early recovery in case of a disaster. The bridges’ scheduled development is funded under Tokyo’s Metro Manila Priority Bridges Seismic Improvement Project. (Japan Embassy PR)
