FISHERY, POTTERY BOOST LOCAL ECONOMY OF SURIGAO NORTE LGU

To facilitate the gradual recovery of its local economy, the municipal government of Placer in Surigao del Norte continues to support its varying sources of livelihood.

Among those is the production of fishery products. The town of Placer is known for its abundance in various fish types such as tuna, milkfish (bangus), and tilapia as well as other seafood such as squid, seaweeds, and seashell. delivered to Surigao City, Butuan City, and other parts of Mindanao.

“With the presence of the port and ice plant facilities and favorable accessibility, most fishing boats from other municipalities and provinces load and unload their fish products here in Placer,” the mayor added.

The lady mayor also highlighted pottery as one of its other sources of livelihood.

“Pottery is one of our livelihood programs and is composed of one organization to maintain its sustainability. We have abundant clay deposits at Barangay Bugas-bugas, Suyoc, and Magupange,” she said.
