News Briefs This year’s Oplan Broadcastreeing activity is made possible through the cooperation of the DENR, CENRO Nasipit, 4th CMO Battalion, Order of Discalced Augustinians, & PIA Caraga. All government agencies, media, & other sectors were invited to participate in the tree planting & growing activity.

A total of 100 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in Surigao del Norte have undergone a training-seminar on financial literacy, a capability development training under the Agrarian Reform Production Credit Program of the Dept of Agrarian Reform (DAR). The said seminar is aimed to raise the awareness of the ARBs on the importance of financial literacy in their daily undertakings especially on budgeting, savings & investments. Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office (PPO) has recorded 5,847 (5,610 drug users & 237 pushers) individuals surrendered provincewide, as July 31, 2016. Accordingly Tagbina town recorded the most number of surenderees w/ a total of 588 drug users & pushers, followed by Barobo with 585, Bislig City-552, Hinatuan-494, while Tandag City recorded 490.

BUTUAN CITY – The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) Caraga through the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) has awarded this year’s winners of the Regional Gawad KALASAG search here. According to RDRRMC chairperson and OCD regional director Manuel Luis M. Ochotorena, the Gawad KALASAG Search for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Humanitarian Assistance was designed to encourage the participation of various stakeholders in crafting and implementing DRRM-related policies, strategies and programs to protect or shield the hazard prone communities from the adverse impacts of natural

For 2013 to 2014, a total of 399 BUB projects which include Livelihood, Farm to Market Roads, Irrigation, Postharvest Facilities, and Fisheries

were completed. For 2015, two BUB projects have been completed while 14 are still on-going. While for 2016, 34 BUB projects amounting to P35,815,184 were obligated. On the other hand, PAMANA is the national government’s program and framework for peace and development and is implemented in areas affected by conflict and communities covered by existing peace agreements. For PAMANA, of the 16 projects implemented in 2013, seven have been completed while nine are still on-going. For 2014, all four FMR projects have been completed. Of the 10 projects targeted for 2015, three are on-going while seven are still on the pipeline. While for 2016, 16 projects are targeted and three are already obligated. (DACaraga)

BUTUAN CITY - The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Agusan del Norte initiated a one-day skills training on Coconut Sap Sugar production, an agribusiness development assistance to the women Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) in the province held recently at San Isidro, Kitcharao, Agusan del Norte. The training was participated by 40 women ARBs who are members of cluster of ARB organizations that include Malambuong Kahugpongan sa

“Our target here is to understand the right definitions of terms so that we will arrive at the right solution of problems. For those who are victims of illegal drugs for example, we cannot immediately call them addicts but instead, we call them people on drug disorder. Like other illnesses, there are maintenance medicines for those suffering from drug disorder,” Chua said.

According to Chua, the mission of the provincial government is to educate its constituents and develop resources for recovery where substance disorder is understood. With this mission, it is envisioned that the provincial government will develop homegrown medical specialists that will cater the victims while disseminating that the provincial government has already moved to address the issues on illegal drugs.
