Caraga stakeholders to march for Pride, equality
organizations with the view of simplifying mechanisms in extending assistance, and to recognize institutional Gender Ombud partners. Atty. Aurora Luanne R. Cembrano-Ramos, CHR Caraga’s Officer-inCharge, is thrilled with the idea of gathering in support of the LGBTQIA+ community.
The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Caraga and its partners will culminate its commemoration of June as Pride Month through a Pride Parade in Butuan City this June 24, 2022. Participants and allies will assemble as early as 3:00 pm at the Guingona Park, Butuan City before marching towards the covered court of the Agusan del Norte Provincial Capitol.
4
A Solidarity Activity will follow at the covered court where representatives from partner agencies, organizations, and newly-elected district representatives are expected to share their messages of support and commitment for the continued call for the passage of a comprehensive legislation that will uphold the respect
for the rights of all persons regardless of sex, gender, disability or other distinction, and prohibit various acts of discrimination against these marginalized sectors.
“I am excited that Caraga Region, through our Office and our partners, has decided to join the chorus of people in the entire World reclaiming ‘Pride’ and embracing it as a wonderful word that symbolizes the desire of the LGBTQIA+
community to never again be ashamed with who they are; never again settle for less than what they deserve; to never again accept that who they are is an apt explanation for the discrimination they have suffered. We stand firm in the mantra that ‘All human, all equal,” said Ramos.
Further, the event will serve as CHR Caraga’s opportunity to formalize its partnership with LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual) Caraga Infocus • June 18-24, 2022
The Pride Parade is organized by CHR Caraga together with its partners, namely: Garbo Agusan del Norte, Ladlad Caraga Region Incorporated, LGTBQ Butuan, Mindanao Pride, the Sangguniang Kabataan Federations of Butuan City and Province of Agusan del Norte, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga, and Regional Gender and Development Committee (RGADC) Caraga. DBP renews ties with Singapore firm to advance sustainable infra solutions
DA’s animal disease molecular laboratory opens in Caraga region By Jennifer P. Gaitano
State-owned Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) has renewed its agreement with Infrastructure Asia (IA) as both agencies map out strategies to implement sustainable solutions aimed at improving the country’s infrastructure landscape and fast-track economic growth and recovery, a top official said. DBP President and Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel G. Herbosa said the bank signed a memorandum of understanding with InfraAsia to expand the scope of its current collaboration to include key areas of the economy such as renewable energy, transportation, waste management, and water supply and sanitation. “DBP and InfraAsia have broadened the scope of the partnership to include the provision of technical assistance in the development, finance and implementation of infrastructure initiatives of the private sector,’’ Herbosa said. ‘’The identification of emerging infrastructure solutions such as

solar energy merchant market and green buildings are also now within the scope of our expanded cooperation with InfraAsia.’’ DBP is the fifth largest bank in the country in terms of assets and has a network of 131 branches and 14 branch-lite units. It provides credit support to four strategic sectors of the economy – infrastructure and logistics; micro, small and medium enterprises; environment; social services and community development. InfraAsia was set up by Enterprise Singapore and the Monetary Authority of Singapore in 2018 to enable good-fit solutions from companies and institutions in addressable infrastructure subsegments in Asia, catalysing project development, financing and execution opportunities to meet the region’s growing needs. It links up organizations that are domain experts in their respective fields with governments, firms, and multilateral institutions.
Herbosa said DBP can benefit from InfraAsia’s solid relationship with multilateral institutions such as the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank Group, as well as the Singapore Business Federation to spur project collaborations, adding that the Bank “… can leverage on InfraAsia’s collective capabilities and networks of various government agencies to catalyze more trade and investments into infrastructure in the region..”. He said this latest collaboration with InfraAsia is expected to boost both public and private sector spending on infrastructure to further boost the country’s economic recovery while generating much-needed job opportunities. “Our partnership with InfraAsia bodes well for DBP moving forward as we continue to support initiatives that seek to address the country’s infrastructure gaps and lay the foundation for a competitive and resilient Philippine economy,” Herbosa said.
The surrenderee narrated that she was deluded with the promise to have a good life and the opportunity to earn as well when she joined the leftist group. However, Charmaine was not allowed to leave the said group as she was threatened with stories of torture the CNTs would do to those who wanted to escape. This led her to stay in the group as she was brought to unknown places without her knowledge.
Col. Reuyan.

A pregnant woman, Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) member Charmaine Ravelo Coquilla voluntarily surrendered to the 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion last 14 June 2022 in Butuan City. As reported, Coquilla decided to surrender to save and secure herself as she carries the innocent unborn child inside her womb. Accordingly, her partner Dexter Umba was killed in an encounter last April 14, 2022.

Reuyan. 36IB Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Michael Rey S Reuyan, welcomed the decision of Charmaine to return to the folds of the government, as he emphasized the right to live peacefully is a right of every human being. “There is no direction in joining the false and forced propaganda of the CTGs, especially to the unborn. A life of terror and ambiguity by holding arms is not the solution to the menial problem of our nation. Your baby could have a brighter future ahead as you step away from the armed struggle”, LTC Reuyan said. Lt. Col Reuyan explained that a second chance awaits for those who want peace with the government, and emphasized the E-CLIP implementation of the national government. “The E-CLIP is the government’s reintegration program for the Former Rebels (FR). Davao City ranks 3rd in PH with most kidney diseases
Tawi-Tawi develops disease-resistant seaweeds
(DOST) funded the program. The new strain of seaweeds is currently being distributed to farmers for mass production.
Dabawenyos should look after their health and take care of their kidneys, as the city continues to rank third in the country with the most number of kidney diseases since 2017. Dr. Theresa Bad-ang, chairperson of the Renal Transplant Section of Nephrology of the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), gave this advice during a press briefer Wednesday, in line with the National Kidney Month in the Philippines. “The life that we have is dependent on the organs that we take care so kidneys (are) one of those organs na matiisin (kidneys are one of the organs that are patient). Hindi sila umiimik until sira na sila (They do not budge until they are wornout),” Bad-ang said. For ages 35 and below, Bad-ang said, kidneys are performing at 100 percent health, but “the time you reach 36, each year means less than one percent functionality.” Therefore, by age 55, people would have lost 20 percent of kidney’s functionality, she said. Those who are hypertensive lose two percent of functionality of their kidney each year, while those who are diabetic lose five percent of their kidney’s functionality per year. “There are so many people who are in dialysis right now.

In fact, PhilHealth has released some PHP2 billion for patients in dialysis during the pandemic. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the most vulnerable group are the patients (with) kidney (diseases),” Bad-ang said.
This means that PhilHealth spends PHP185,000 per person per year for those who sought 90 sessions annually and PHP288,000 per person per year for those who acquired 144 sessions annually.
However, Bad-ang made it clear that “kidney diseases can be prevented. We are making this awareness drive because PhilHealth releases a lot of its budget to treat patients with kidney diseases.”
According to the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), one Filipino develops chronic renal failure every hour or about 120 Filipinos per million population every year.
Bad-ang said PhilHealth spends over PHP2,000 per session for a dialysis patient. On average, a patient receives dialysis treatment 90 days per year but the approved payment of benefit claims for hemodialysis services have recently been maxed to 144 sessions, as stated in the PhilHealth Circular 2021-0009.
Latest estimates show that around 2.3 million Filipinos have chronic kidney disease (CKD). In 2016, more than 36,000 patients were on dialysis treatment which reflects a 15 percent increase in the number of patients in just one year. Bad-ang said SPMC is holding an organ donation awareness campaign for the entire month. (PNA)

The Seaweed Research and Development Center at Mindanao State University Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography is producing a new strain of seaweeds resistant to disease and climate change. Dr. Sitti Zayda Halun, Director for Research, explained that seaweed farmers in Tawi-Tawi have been planting the same strain for more than fifty years, which are already susceptible to ice-ice disease. Iceice disease is a condition that causes the whitening and hardening of the seaweed’s tissues caused by changes in salinity, ocean temperature and light intensity, resulting to low productivity.
“Bumaba yung quality ng raw dice seaweeds natin, yung production natin, bumaba din dahil hindi maganda ang mga seedlings na ginagamit,” Halin said. Tawi-Tawi used to be the top producer of raw diced seaweed in Southeast Asia. Carrageenan, which is an extract from raw diced seaweeds, serves as a main ingredient for cosmetics, medicine, and food. “Naunahan na tayo ng mga ibang bansa, tulad ng Malaysia, and Indonesia,” Halun added. The new strain that they are producing through tissue culture and spores is unaffected by ice-ice disease. Department of Science and Technology

But there’s more to be done, Dr. Halun said. Aside from the research aspect, the program needs facilities to improve the production and income of seaweeds farmers such as processing plants and storage facilities. “The goal is to be able to process seaweeds chips that can be sold as raw materials,” Dr. Halun explained. Having industry-based shared facilities forms part of the Mindanao Development Agenda of Mindanao Development Authority to ensure the productivity and resilience of the agri and fisheries sectors. MinDA Chairperson Maria Belen Acosta said stakeholders should work hand in hand to reposition Tawi-Tawi as a major source of seaweeds products. Tawi-Tawi province is composed of eleven island municipalities, with fishing and seaweed farming as the main source of livelihood.

To our foreign guests, sa aking mga kababayan — magandang hapon po sa inyong lahat, maayong hapon kaninyong tanan. One of the most important lessons I have learned as I navigate life and the same thing that I believe we should ponder upon as one country united in our determination to overcome our difficulties and achieve our aspirations — is that we should commit to heart the priorities of God, country, and family. My life is a testament to the power of a God, whom we know by many names. My younger self was consumed by a dream to become
a doctor. I pursued a pathway that I thought could help me realize that dream, but I was directed toward another way. And now I am a lawyer. When I committed myself to governance and public service, I was also determined to finish three consecutive terms as Mayor. That will not happen anymore. I am now the Vice President-Elect. The voice of 32.2 million Filipinos was loud and clear — with the message to serve our motherland. And this message has been reiterated in my oath: to consecrate myself to the service of the nation. PH fully vaccinates 70M Filipinos before PRRD ends term Within 15 months after the National Vaccination Program was launched, the Philippine government achieved its target of fully vaccinating 70 million Filipinos against Covid-19. In the latest report of the National Vaccination Operations Center as of June 17, a total of 70,005,247 individuals, or 77.78 percent of the target population have completed their primary series. Of the total, 14,704,514 have availed of the first booster shot while 648,555 have the second booster dose. To date, only the elderly, medical front-liners, and immunocompromised adults (with cancer, human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome, taking immunosuppressants, or organ transplant recipients) are eligible for the second dose. Out of the 153,013,072 doses administered, 74,813,407 have received at least one dose. Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., National Task Force Against Covid-19 chief implementer, said the milestone is a testament to the administration’s commitment to protect as many Filipinos as possible from the fatal effects of Covid-19. “As promised, we reached the target of 70 million fully vaccinated individuals. The NTF thanks our health care workers,

wearing of face masks, physical distancing, and frequent washing of hands.
“This is our parting gift to the next administration. We hope that our new leaders will also prioritize our vaccination program and continue to build an immunity wall among our people,” he added.
The government’s pediatric vaccination likewise continues to gain momentum, with 3,217,367 children aged 5 to 11 already fully vaccinated. Under the 12 to 17 bracket, 9,487,745 have already received their full doses.
Galvez is confident that the high vaccination rate, coupled with the continued compliance with health protocols, can prevent another surge of infections.
Galvez renewed his call to the public to get their booster shots as soon as they are eligible to strengthen the protection provided by the primary doses, which wane over time.
“We have had many superspreader events in the past months, including the national elections, but we still managed to keep our new Covid-19 cases low because of our high vaccination rate,” he said, while stressing continued
