DOLE-TUPAD pays P22.8M to SurSur workers affected by TS Auring By Nida Grace P. Barcena

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Surigao del Sur Provincial Office has successfully implemented the TUlong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Displaced/ Disadvantaged Workers or TUPAD in Surigao del Sur, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur as its accredited co-partner (ACP).

The report said 4,740 informal economy workers identified as affected by Tropical Storm (TS) Auring last February 2021 were the beneficiaries, as per commitment of DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III. Also, some 250 workers from each of the 17 municipalities and two (2) component cities in the Province of Surigao del Sur have availed the said program. provided with 15day temporary wage employment that involved cleaning of public facilities and community gardening. Following Caraga Region’s daily minimum rate of P320.00, each beneficiary received P4,800.00 as salary for the work done.

They were also provided 1-year accident insurance and personal protective equipment that included a TUPAD long-sleeved shirt and 15 pieces of disposable facemasks, to ensure protection from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

TUPAD is DOLE’s safety net program that provides temporary wage employment to the workers in the informal sector particularly the unpaid family workers and selfemployed workers with elementary occupations who were displaced or whose earnings were affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic and/or natural calamities such as TS Auring.
