DAVAO CITY – Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Secretary Emmanuel Piñol is submitting himself to self-quarantine as soon as he arrives in the country on Saturday from attending the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) in Kota Kinabalu Malaysia on March 12-13.

In his Facebook post on Thursday night, Piñol said he and his two staff will undergo a voluntary quarantine to ensure that they are safe from the virus. the recent developments on the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, he issued an order suspending work at all MinDA offices.

“I will submit myself to medical check-up and stay in my farm for one week,” he added.

As the chairperson of MinDA, Piñol was invited to be one of the panelists in the forum, where he presented the impact of the transfer of Indonesia’s capital to East Kalimantan, Borneo on the economy of the sub-region of BruneiIndonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).

On the other hand, following “So as to maintain our linkage with our clientele, I have ordered the creation of a 10-man skeletal force headed by a senior officer to man the office on a daily rotation basis,” he said.

Piñol also advised the employees to stay home but to continue linkages with their clients through digital communications.

“All MinDA officials and employees are enjoined to observe these directives,” he said. (PNA)

Davao Region gets P41-M aid for waste management facilities Mindanao News

DAVAO CITY - The National Waste Management Commission (NWMC) has provided some PHP40.9 million to local government units in the Davao Region to better manage their waste facilities. By Digna Banzon

Environment Management Bureau-Region 11 (EMB-11) Director Sophie Manuel said that some PHP8.8 million was provided this year for three local governments in Davao del Norte, and one in Davao del Sur.

Manuel said the funds were used for the closure and rehabilitation plan of sanitary landfills and the improvement of material recovery facilities (MRFs). Nine more are being constructed in Manay, San Isidro, Banaybanay in Davao Oriental; Monkayo, Maragusan, New Bataan in Davao de Oro province; Panabo City in Davao del Norte; Magsaysay in Davao del Sur; and Don Marcelino in Davao Occidental. Manuel said EMB’s monitoring on open dumpsites is ongoing, warning local governments that they will not hesitate to mete out penalties for violators.

She said over PHP32.060 million was also provided for the construction of MRFs in 117 barangays in the region. Manuel said the region only has three existing sanitary landfills -- in Davao City, Mati City in Davao Oriental and the Island Garden City of Samal in Davao del Norte. Currently, EMB-11 said a total of 36 municipalities and cities and one province in the region have so far obtained approval for the mandatory 10-year solid waste management plan.

The plans, she said, are being evaluated by the Commission. (PNA)
