BUTUAN CITY – More than 19,000 farmers in Caraga region have received the financial assistance from the Department of Agriculture (DA), with a total amount of P96.4-million.

Under the Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RFFA) Program of DA, qualified farmers were able to receive 5,000 pesos each.

According to DA-Caraga regional director Abel James Monteagudo, the RFFA intends to assist the farmers who are affected by the decrease of the price of the unmilled rice or palay in this crisis situation.
Amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the DA-Caraga continues to extend said financial assistance to the farmer sector to help their families cope with the daily needs.
Joseph Libres of Barangay Humilog in the municipality of RTR, Agusan del Norte was among the farmer-beneficiaries who thanked the government for the prompt response by providing the financial aid.
“I’m thankful to the government through the Department of Agriculture for giving us this cash assistance because, without this, we would not be able to provide the daily needs of our family during this crisis on COVID-19,” Libres said.

Another is the agricultural competitiveness enhancement fund, with only low-interest charge in order to help the sector cope with their daily expenses.
