MANILA — Manila hosted the 24th ASEAN Postal Business Meeting (ASEANPOST) at the Okada Hotel I Manila on 6-7 November 2017, an event attended by postal operators from the 10 member countries of ASEAN. Philippine Postmaster General Joel Otarra and Pos Malaysia Berhad Group Chief Executive Officer Mr.Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh, Chairman of this year’s ASEAN Postal Business Meeting join keynote speaker Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr. during the opening ceremonies.

Govt preparations ‘levelled up’ for 31st ASEAN Summit
QUEZON CITY -The government has levelled up its preparations for the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit as compared to its handling of the 30th ASEAN Summit last April, according to the ASEAN Committee on Security, Peace and Order, and Emergency Preparedness and Response (CSPOEPR). Undas 2017 ends safe, peaceful in Caraga
BUTUAN CITY – The observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day in Caraga was generally safe and peaceful, according to Chief Superintendent Rolando Felix, Philippine National Police (PNP) Caraga Regional Director. Over 4,200 police officers were mobilized in Caraga to ensure orderly traffic, assist the motorists and secure the people going in and out of cemeteries, churches and other public places.

AgNor LGU to sign MOA with DENR on forestland use plan By: Jay Vincent Demain
The land use plan is vital for a holistic and efficient management of forest resources in the province. Per DENR Joint Memorandum Circular 98-01, LGUs are encouraged to undertake forest land use planning in close coordination with the DENR to come up with the comprehensive land use and forest land use plans. The MOA is necessary to lay down the duties and responsibilities of the province and the DENR, of which trainings, field works, cross visits and workshops are part of the planning process.

PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur – The Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) in Agusan del Sur had its 3rd quarter meeting at the Municipal Mayor’s Conference Room, Prosperidad, this province with Mayor Albin Magdamit as the presiding officer.
The Department of Trade and Industry-Agusan del Sur (DTI-AdS) provincial office and the Municipal Agriculture Office reported the prices of the products under their respective jurisdiction. Supply and prices of DTI monitored products were reported reasonable and adequate. Both reports showed that prices of some products increased after the July monitoring, but said prices were still within the suggested retail price (SRP). Prices of some agricultural products also fluctuated.

SURIGAO CITY – With an aim to gauge people’s understanding on population, reproductive and health issues, Surigao del Norte local government held a province-wide population development (PopDev) quiz and essay writing competition on October 26 at the Provincial Convention Center. There were eight participants from Department of Education (DepEd) Siargao Division and 12 from the mainland DepEd Division who figured during the popquiz. Around 19 schools from the island also took part during the essay writing contest while 35 contestants hailed from mainland DepEd Division.

ILIGAN CITY – National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) supported by Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Mindanao Cluster 2 and its partner telcos and radio groups, offers a 5-day “Libreng Text at Tawag Services” for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in different evacuation centers in the region. “Libreng Text at Tawag” services are now being offered in evacuation centers located at Pantao Ragat, Lanao del Norte; Baloi and Saguiaran in Lanao del Sur; the municipal hall in Initao, Misamis Oriental; and the community hall in Vamenta Subdivision, Opol, Misamis Oriental.

The figure was slightly lower than the result of the June 2017 survey, which ahowed that 82 percent of those surveyed approved of the President’s performance, while 5 percent disapproved of it and 12 percent were undecided. Of the three main islands, Mindanao gave him a 92 percent approval rating, followed by Visayas with 86 percent, and Luzon (excluding Metro Manila) with 72 percent. The National Capital Region (NCR) gave him a rating of 76 percent.
MANILA – A majority of Filipinos continue to approve of President Rodrigo Duterte’s performance, according to a Pulse Asia survey released Thursday.
The survey showed that Duterte’s ratings were higher compared to the past three presidents. His immediate predecessor, Benigno S. Aquino III (2010-2016) came closest. Aquino’s highest approval rating was in October 2010 and September 2013 at 79 percent, with a disapproval rating of 3 percent and 7 percent, respectively. Those who were undecided were registered at 18 percent and 14 percent, respectively.
The survey, “Comparative Performance and Trust Ratings of Presidents”, covering the May 1999 to September 2017 period, showed that as of September, 80 percent of the respondents approved of Duterte’s performance, 7 percent disapproved of it, while 13 percent were undecided.
