Cluster of the Caraga Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTFELCAC) celebrated

the 50th anniversary of Martial Law through a webinar series with a theme, “Martial Law @ 50: Iisang Bayan, Iisang Laban. Terorismo ay Wakasan!, “ from September 19 to 21, 2022 participated by

youth organizations and students regionwide.

The activity, which was live streamed via Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga’s Facebook page, was spearheaded by the

National Intelligence Coordinating Agency

(NICA) Caraga led by Regional Director Harold Nacional, in partnership with SAKM cluster members namely the 4th Civil Military Operations (CMO) of the 4th Infantry Division (4ID), Police Regional Office-13 (PRO-13) - Regional Community Affairs Development Division (RCADD), and PIA Caraga, and advocacy support groups Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo (KKDAT) and Propelling Our Inherited Nation Through our Youth (POINTY), Inc.

Former President E. Marcos, Sr. declared the Martial Law on September 23, 1972 through Presidential Proclamation No. 1081 which was signed on September 21, 1972. The first leg of the webinar series recounted the country’s situation prior to the declaration of Martial Law and the events that prompted its declaration, which at that time was an attempt to protect the country and the Filipino people from the crawling threat of communism.

The second session entitled “50 Shades of Communist Terrorism” uncovered how the communist-terrorist groups (CTGs) exploited the 1972 Martial Law.

The three-day webinar series concluded with testimonials from former rebels who were leaders and officers of the New People’s Army. At the end of their testimonies, the FRs encouraged the students and the youth to be vigilant so that they will not be deceived by the lies and promises of the CTGs that will eventually destroy their future and ruin their lives.

Under Executive Order No. 70, the SAKM Cluster was created and designed to develop and to implement educational awareness campaigns purposely for deeper understanding of the strategies and tactics of the CTGs.

As the lead agency of the Strategic Communications Cluster and a close partner of the SAKM Cluster, PIA Caraga affirmed its continued support to the endeavors of the Cluster.

“We will continue to support and collaborate with all the members of the SAKM cluster especially on information drive and dissemination of the programs and projects through its different platforms. The member agency has committed to #ExplainExplainExplain to the Filipino peopleyoung and old - history’s true story,” said Assistant Regional Director Renelle Escuadro as she affirmed the Agency’s pledge of commitment on behalf of Regional Director Venus L. 1502nd RRIBn grabs 2nd place in 15RCDG DRRO challenge

The Disaster Relief and Rescue Team of the 1502nd (Agusan del Sur) Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion (1502 RRIBn) was declared winner in “Best in Basic Life Support/Bandaging”, “Best in Emergency Rescue Transfer”, and second (2nd) placer in “Disaster Relief and Rescue Operation (DRRO) Challenge” in the activity conducted by the 15th Regional Community Defense Group (15RCDG).

This is in commemoration of the 39th Founding Anniversary of the

Reserve Command (RESCOM), Philippine Army (PA), held on September 19 to 20, 2022, at Masao Beach, Butuan City.

The competition was participated by four Community Defense Centers (CDC) under the administration of 15RCDG, which comprised of 1501st (Agusan del Norte), 1502nd (Agusan del Sur), 1503rd (Surigao del Norte), and 1504th (Surigao del Sur).

Each CDC was represented by one Organic personnel and

eight Reservist personnel in the following events: Emergency Rescue Transfer, Bandaging, Knot Tying, 100 Meter Swimming, Rubber Boat Handling, and Water Rescue.

AgSur FRs receive immediate assistance

The Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur (PGAS) through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development (PSWD) Office provided ninety thousand pesos (PhP90,000.00) total worth of immediate cash assistance, sacks of rice and canned goods to nine (9) Former Rebels (FRs) of 26th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army on September 17, 2022.

As intended beneficiaries of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), the said FRs received ten thousand pesos (PhP10,000.00) each with rice and assorted canned goods.

The FRs were very happy upon receiving the said assistance. “Dako kaayo ang amoang pasalamat sa gobyerno sa ilang mga tabang nga gihatag kanamo. Bisan paman sa luyo sa amoang mga nabuhat, andam lang gihapon sila sa pagdawat

ug pag-atiman sa amoa alang sa pagbalik namo sa among pamilya (We are thankful to the government for the assistance provided to us. Despite the things we did against the government, the government is still willing to accept us as we want to return to the folds of the law),” said alias “KG”.

Lieutenant Colonel (LtCol) Sandy R Majarocon, Commanding Officer of 26IB, expressed his gratitude to the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur headed by Gov. Santiago B Cane Jr. for always supporting the needs of FRs, and the PSWDO headed by Razel O Montemor for facilitating the immediate assistance of FRs of this unit.

“I am glad that our new FRs have now received their immediate assistance as part of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP). This assistance will surely

answer the immediate needs of our FRs and initially support their reintegration back to their communities. This action also manifests the good collaboration and cooperation of various government agencies and units that amplify efforts to end the local communist armed conflict,” LtCol Majarocon said.

It can be recalled that the said FRs also underwent series of skills training from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-Agusan del Sur such as the Land Preparation for Agricultural Crops Production leading to Agricultural Crops Production NCIII, Motorcycle Small Engine Training, and Carpentry and Masonry Training that aim to empower the FRs to be more economically-resilient by enhancing and developing their individual skills and capability. Mamawag, PA, Commander of 4th Infantry (DIAMOND) Division, Philippine Army as presiding officer held at Headquarters,

29th Infantry (Matatag) Battalion in P-4 Barangay del Pilar, Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte.

Col. Jason M. Saldua, the outgoing Commanding officer commended the men and women of MATATAG Battalion for their efforts and accomplishments they have shown in pursuit of internal peace and security operations in Northeastern Mindanao

Patuloy pa rin ang pagbibigay ng iba’t-ibang trainings lalo na sa mga kabataan ang Philippine Red Cross Agusan del Norte-Butuan City (PRC AND-BC) chapter kung saan umabot na sa mahigit isang libo ang nakinabang nito.

Isa si William Cupay sa mga kabataang nakapagtapos ng Standard First-Aid trainings kung saan ipinagmamalaki nyang nakapagbigay ito ng malaking tulong sa kanyang adhikain na makapagbigay serbisyo lalo na ang pagtulong sa mga nangangailan sa panahon ng emergencies

at sakuna kung sakaling maranasan ito sa ating lugar.

25 FR-beneficiaries receive

Livelihood Settlement Grant in SurSur

The Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) facilitated the release of the Livelihood Settlement Grant to the former rebelbeneficiaries in Surigao del Sur today, September 22 at the Governor Vicente T. Pimentel Jr. Hall in Tandag City.

The release of the grant is funded under the Sustainable Livelihood Program implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)

Caraga Regional Office.

During the activity, DSWD Caraga personnel initiated the ceremonial turnover of the Livelihood Settlement Grants amounting to P500,000.00 to the Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur.

A total of 25 former rebels who are beneficiaries of the Livelihood Settlement Grant and each received the cash amounting to P20,000.00 on the same day and venue.

The Landbank personnel were also present during the release of the cash assistance for the convenience and safety of the beneficiaries.

The said activity is part of the Whole-of-Nation Approach participated by the officials/ representatives from the Provincial Government Office of Surigao del Sur, National Government Agencies, and partner stakeholders involved in implementation as compliance to Executive Order No.70. Communist Terrorist leader dead in Surigao del Sur

The leader of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) was found dead after the intensified military operation of the 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion at Sitio Mahanon, Barangay Maitom, Tandag City on September 16, 2022.

The cadaver was then identified as Noel Tumarlas Alacre, also known as Megan/ Hardy/ Heinrich/ Vernie/ Jerson. The said CTG is a Commanding Officer (CO) of Platoon 2, Weakened Guerilla

Front 30 (WGF30), North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC).

Based on the report, Alacre has 28 Warrants of Arrest for numerous Criminal Cases composing:

● 12 counts of Murder,

● eight (8) counts of Attempted Murder,

● three (3) counts of Frustrated Murder,

● two (2) counts of Slight Illegal Detention,

● one (1) count of Kidnapping and

● Serious Illegal Detention, Arson, and Abduction.

The 36IB was able to recover in his possession the following:

● One (1) R4A3,

● steel and plastic rifle magazines with live ammunition,

● rifle grenades,

● cellular phones, and

● personal items.

On September 15, the day

before the recovery of the cadaver, more or less four (4) Personalities burned three (3) motorcycles and fired several gunshots along Barangay Maitom road, Tandag City, Surigao del Sur.

The terroristic act of arson and reckless firing perpetuated by the CTGs was immediately responded to by the Mahanon Civilian Active Auxiliary (CAA) detachment of 36IB, forcing the CTG leader to cross the Tandag river even under heavy rain and current leading to his eventual death.

Troops were able to recover the lifeless body of Alacre as his subordinates fled and left their commander for their safety.

Reuyan, Commanding Officer of 36IB, for their relentless operation resulting in the death of one High-Value Target (HVT), and the impending destruction of the WGF 30, NEMRC in the province of Surigao del Sur. “You have performed your duty in the best way possible, especially in maintaining peace and development thru Internal Security Operations. The truth regarding the CTG is unveiled – they are nothing but fugitives and lawless arsonistterrorists with no dignity, having no regard for human life just to secure themselves, insisting their twisted propaganda, and fooling the populace of their failed ideology”, BGen Banzon said. Two business firms from Surigao del Norte, Lakeview Bakery and DGT Graphics & Prints received a total of P1,773,000 SETUP funds for the improvement of their operations and enhancement of their processes to boost productivity and competitiveness.

Lakeview Bakery, owned and managed by Mr. Alan Angelo L. Mozar,

is a three-decade bakery that sells hard breads, assorted sweet breads and pastries while DGT Graphics & Prints, owned by Mrs. Bebiana L. Camingue and managed by her son, Mr. Daniel Adrian Camingue, is a printing shop that offers various printing services such as vinyl stickers printing, document printing, photo printing, vellum printing, newsletter

printing, sublimation printing, lamination, and they also accept embroidery works orders for uniforms.

celebrates International Coastal clean-up day 2022

The Philippine Ports Authority Port Management Office of Surigao spearheaded the International Coastal Clean-up Day on September 17, 2022.

With this year’s theme, “WE CLEAN ON – for our Ocean and for Each Other” over 100 participants coming from different stakeholders of the Surigao City port community such as the Shipping Lines, GlobalPort Terminals Incorporated, 722nd Naval Squadron Reserve of the 72nd Naval Group Reserve and the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.

Together with the support of Barangay Taft Officials and its civic society, a total of 500 kilograms of rubbish were collected from the Bilang-Bilang Bay and Borromeo Street, Surigao City.

Simultaneously, PMO Surigao’s Terminal Management Offices in Tandag, Surigao del Sur, San Jose, Province of Dinagat Islands and Port of Lipata conducted a Coastal Cleanup activity together with its respective port community and stakeholders from the PNP Maritime, Philippine Coast Guard, and Philippine Archipelago Ports and Terminal Services Incorporated/PhilHarbor.

The International Coastal Cleanup Day is a global initiative since 1986 by the Ocean Conservancy (TOC), formerly the Center for Marine Conservation (CMC) based in Washington, D.C., USA, together with the Environment Protection Agency.

Basilan solon seeks more infra funds for Mindanao in 2023 budget

Basilan Rep. Mujiv Hataman is pushing for more infrastructure funds for Mindanao in the proposed 2023 national budget.

Speaking during the ongoing plenary debates on the budget on Thursday, Hataman opposed the huge cut in Mindanao’s infrastructure funds citing that the country’s southern regions have been plagued with poverty due to past conflicts between insurgents and government forces.

“Malinaw sa atin na ang infrastructure ay siyang lumilikha ng trabaho at lumilikha ng income sa madaming manggagawa sa construction, so malaking contribution ito sa pag-address ng poverty. At ang multiplier nyan ay yung peace and security sa mga

lugar na tinatamaan ng imprastruktura (It is clear to us that infrastructure creates jobs and provide income to many workers in the construction sector. This has a big contribution in addressing poverty. The multiplier of that is peace and security in areas where infrastructure projects are being implemented),” Hataman said.

Hataman called on fellow lawmakers,

especially those from Mindanao, to unite and work for the restoration of the infrastructure budget of the island back to its 2022 levels.

Mindanao suffered a huge slash in infrastructure outlay, from PHP84.69 billion in 2022 to only PHP30.49 billion in 2023, or a reduction of a whopping PHP54.2 billion, or almost a 64 percent decrease from last year.

if the Development Budget Coordinating Committee (DBCC) considered poverty incidence in formulating the proposed national budget.

According to Hataman, four out of the top five poorest regions in the country as indicated by their poverty incidence are found in Mindanao -- the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, 45.8 percent; Caraga, 38.3 percent, Zamboanga Peninsula, 37.4 percent and Soccsksargen, 34.1 percent.

The other region on the list is Eastern Visayas with 36 percent.

Hataman asked Marikina Rep. Stella Quimbo, a sponsor of a part of the proposed national budget.

Quimbo responded by saying agencies have regional offices that send feedback on regional needs, such as data on the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and other social welfare programs.

Hataman agreed that while 4Ps helps address poverty incidence, infrastructure projects provide numerous jobs and income, especially in impoverished areas in many parts of Mindanao.

The Basilan solon added that all regions have their own Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contribution but this depends on the infrastructure allocation gained in order to have private investments in the said impoverished regions.

“Kung magulo ‘yung lugar mo or mahina ang imprastruktura mo, definitely may relation yun sa mga (If your area has peace and order

problems or you have weak infrastructure development, it has something to do with) private investments,” he explained.

Hataman pointed out that there should be proper coordination with the DBCC because its major function is to study the macro assumptions based on data submitted by concerned agencies.

At ngayong may kapayapaan na, sana naman ay buhusan ng pondo dahil maraming rehiyon dito ang nakasadlak sa kahirapan (We know that Mindanao has a lot of catching up to do in terms of progress and development because it has been the stage of many conflicts. P80-M educational aid distributed to 35K students in Davao Region

Some PHP80 million have been disbursed for the educational payout in Davao Region from Aug. 20 to Sept. 17, the regional Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-11) office said Monday.

In an interview, DSWD-11 Director Vanessa Gocong said the amount was received by some 35,933 students in various grade levels in the region.

The aid is under the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations program, which has been extended to cover students in crisis or emergencies.

The DSWD-11 regional office here served some 11,165 beneficiaries with PHP26.59 million disbursed.

In other parts of the region, some 5,254 recipients in Davao del Norte got PHP11.61 million aid; Davao de Oro - 5,270 beneficiaries (PHP12.18 million); Davao Oriental -

4,701 students (PHP10.48 million); Davao del Sur - 5,418 students with PHP10.92 million; and Davao Occidental’s 4,125 students with PHP9.11 million.

A 74-year-old grandmother, Albina Cabel, said she received PHP2,000 educational aid on Sept. 17 for her grandchild.

“As a guardian, I am so thankful for the AICS program. I will use this to buy school supplies and

for my grandchild’s school allowance,” Cabel said.

Cabel also thanked the social workers who made the payout convenient and smooth.

Maura Azucena, 68, who also got PHP2,000 assistance, lauded the agency for its swift service.

“Thank you DSWD, I can now buy school uniforms and other school needs for my grandchild,” she said. (PNA)

The Philippines is a smart investment choice, and now is the best time to do business with the country, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said Thursday.

In a speech at the Philippine Economic Briefing in New York City, the President invited strategic investors in the United States to invest in the Philippines, citing the country’s “economic resurgence” following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We invite strategic investors from the United States to take part in this Philippines

economic resurgence. Key structural reforms have been set in place to allow for wider participation in our industries,” said Marcos.

Economic liberalization measures like the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises Act or CREATE, the chief executive said, expanded “the space for foreign investments in previously protected sectors”, especially those that employ advanced technologies and research and development activities. Marcos also touted the country’s “grand

opportunities, the timing, the window of opportunities” for investment, especially in capital-intensive investments in the Philippines.

Marcos is on the fifth day of his six-day working visit to the United States, where he delivered a historic speech at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday presented his administration’s eight-point socio-economic agenda aimed at dramatically cutting poverty incidence and elevating the country to upper-middle-income status.

“Our socio-economic agenda charts out the government’s policy and its different directions that will be used to tackle both near- and medium-term priorities,” said Marcos at the Philippine Economic Briefing in New York City.

The President said his administration is ramping up efforts to address the

impact of inflation.

“In the near term, we will address the impact of growing inflationary pressures due to rising global prices of key commodities such as food and fuel. We will ensure domestic food security by boosting local food production and continue the provision of targeted support for sectors most affected by the rise in fuel prices,” said Marcos.

Marcos also expressed confidence that the Philippine economy is on track to outperform its Asian neighbors.

“I thank you for your

continuing interest in the Philippines, which we are touting as with great confidence as Asia’s fastest rising economic star,” he told American business leaders and investors.

In his six-day working visit to the United States, Marcos also met with members of the Filipino community to thank them for their support and contribution to the Philippine economy.

“We tackled the optimistic peace process in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and explored concrete ways to address other priority issues in the global economy such as food security, climate action, and trade,” Marcos said in a post.

Blair serves as the current executive chairman of the Tony Blair Institute For Global Change, a non-profit organization that seeks to support political leaders and governments to build open, inclusive and prosperous societies in a globalized world.

In his speech at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday, Marcos cited the Philippines’ success in achieving peace in BARMM by turning to “inclusive dialogue.”

“The peace that we have forged after many decades of conflict among warring factions and clansmen demonstrates that unity is possible even in the most trying circumstances,” he said.

Marcos said the country also takes the same approach in Asia, stressing that it creates partnerships for peace and development through inter-faith and inter-religious dialogue, especially in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

“In the face of great diversity, we believe that partnerships form the bridge to unite all of us in promoting peace and stability in the Asia Pacific region,” Marcos said.

“Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday expressed commitment to improving ties with its longstanding ally, the United States, in a historic meeting with US President Joe Biden in New York City.

“We are your partners, we are your allies, we are your friends. And in like fashion, we have always considered the United States our partner, our ally and our friend,” Marcos told Biden in a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Marcos noted the Philippines and the United States’ “very strong foundation of a

very long relationship and strong relationships on various facets.”

He also expressed hope that the two countries can further strengthen their bid to maintain peace despite all the complexities that have arisen in the past few months.

“And I hope that we will be able to discuss further the roles that our two countries will play together and individually as we continue down that road,” Marcos said. Biden, for his part, sought strengthened ties with the Philippines after what he described as “rocky times” in the past.

“The relationship

between the United States and the Philippines, to state the obvious, has very deep roots. We’ve had some rocky times but the fact is it’s a critical, critical relationship from our perspective,” he told the Philippine leader.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday called for the elimination of racism and Asian hate as he pledged to accelerate the implementation of a human rights joint programme with the United Nations.

“We still dream of an end to the disturbing incidents of racism, of Asian hate, of all prejudice,” Marcos said in a speech at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The Philippines-United Nations Joint Programme on Human Rights, he said, is an example of a constructive approach that “puts our people, not our politics, at the center of this work.”

“It provides a model for revitalizing the structures that facilitates solidarity between the United Nations and a sovereign duty-bearer,” added Marcos.

The joint programme seeks to affirm the country’s commitment to human rights, the importance of free democratic space for civil society, as well as the principle of international cooperation.

In his speech, the chief executive said the challenges today are “as consequential as those that faced us seventy-seven years ago” when the UN was founded.

“We are, indeed, at a watershed moment; one

that requires a re-founding of these, our United Nations,” said Marcos. “The world is ready for transformation. It is up to us as leaders of our nations to move and shape that transformation.”

The country is one of the original 51 charter members that created the United Nations in 1945.

In his speech, Marcos also called on member states to help each other amid pressing issues worldwide, including climate change and food security issues.

“I say let the challenges of one people be the challenges for all nations. And in that way, the success of one will be a success for us all,” he said. (PND)

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. highlighted the contributions made by the Philippines in promoting peace and justice during his participation at the High-Level General Debate of the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday.

Speaking before hundreds of world leaders, Marcos reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to the fundamental principles of the United Nations of preserving peace, security, and stability among nations.

“I stand today on behalf of 110 million Filipinos. At this time of crisis and opportunity, I bring with me the spirit of their enduring commitment to the ideals of our United Nations,” Marcos said.

“This commitment is reflected in our solid contributions to

the cause of peace and of justice, he added.

The chief executive cited the Philippines’ role in shepherding the Manila Declaration of 1982 noting that it helped affirm that differences should only be resolved through peaceful means.

He likewise stressed the country’s contribution to reinforcing the predictability and stability of international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, wherein the Philippines provided an example of how states should resolve disputes which is through reason and right.

“These two contributions provide useful guidance for our time. For amidst the challenging global tides, an important ballast stabilizes

our common vessel. That is, our open, inclusive, and rules-based international order that is governed by international law and informed by the principles of equity and of justice,” he said.

The President then maintained that the Philippines will continue to pursue an independent foreign policy of being a friend to all and an enemy to none.

Marcos is the first Philippine president who personally attended the UNGA since the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2019.

He was the first leader of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) who delivered a statement during the High-Level General Debate, which was attended by more than 150 heads of state and government. (PND)

vaccination possible in PH: expert

Vaccination against Covid-19 yearly or biannually is possible as immunity wanes over time, an infectious disease expert said Monday.

In a televised public briefing, Dr. Rontgene Solante said the priority of the annual or biannual inoculation against Covid-19 would be the vulnerable population.

“Unang-una diyan, bumababa ang bisa ng bakuna six to eight months after, so, ibig sabihin there’s a possibility na pwede tayo magkahawaan pa rin (First of all, vaccine immunity wanes six to eight months after, so, it means there’s still a possibility for us to be infected),” he said.

Solante added he supports the idea of redefining the term “fully vaccinated” which only included the primary series of Covid-19

vaccine.

The original definition of “fully vaccinated” no longer matches the protection needed against the infection and its severe symptoms, he said.

“Sana karagdagan dito ‘yung first booster sa general population or second booster doon sa vulnerable population with comorbidities and doon sa mga immunocompromised

(I hope this includes the first booster for general population or second booster for the

vulnerable population with comorbidities and immunocompromised),” he said.

As of Sept. 14, almost 72.8 million Filipinos have been fully vaccinated.

Of the tally, around 6.8 million are senior citizens; more than 9.9 million are adolescents; and 4.9 million are children.

PH Covid-19 cases expected to rise as restrictions ease

Coronavirus cases are expected to rise with increased mobility, resumption of face-toface classes and easing of face mask mandate, an infectious disease expert said Monday.

In a televised public briefing, Dr. Rontgene Solante said the country’s boosted population is low.

As of Sept. 14, more than 18.7 million individuals have received their first booster doses and almost 2.6 million have received their second booster shots.

Solante noted booster doses would provide added protection against the highly transmissible Omicron BA.5 subvariant -the most dominant coronavirus variant worldwide.

On Friday last week, the Department of Health reported 163 additional cases of Omicron BA.5

subvariant and four new cases of Delta variant.

“What we need is protect the vulnerable population kasi sa nakikita natin sa mga hospital ngayon, ang nadadala ‘yung mga vulnerable population (because it is seen in the hospitals that most admissions are from the vulnerable population),” he said.

Since the number of boosted individuals is low, Solante underscored the importance of wearing face masks among

the senior citizens, the immunocompromised, and persons with comorbidities.

“Or kung mayroon tayong inuuwian sa bahay na mas puwede nating mahawaan kasi ngayon ang taas ng household transmission ng Covid, ‘no. Makikita natin pamilya pamilya ang nagkakasakit (Or if we live with people who may get infected easily because household transmission of Covid is high. We see families are getting sick),” he said. Covid-19 won’t end anytime soon, says infectious disease expert

The coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic would not end in two to three months, an infectious disease expert said Monday.

In a televised public briefing, Dr. Rontgene Solante said the country’s Covid-19 numbers are low compared to those reported in January or September last year.

“Pero, tuloy-tuloy pa rin na mayroon tayong community transmission especially with this BA.5 variant. And in fact, sa data natin ngayon, marami-raming (But, we continue to have community transmission especially with the BA.5 variant. And in fact, in our current data, many) regions are moderate risk,” he said.

Earlier, the World Health Organization (WHO) said the end of the pandemic can already be seen as many of its regions are reporting significant

decrease in the tally of new deaths and new infections.

Solante noted that the healthcare utilization rate among regions nationwide remains low.
